Well that was a rookie mistake if he failed to take into account his better acceleration would require him to brake earlier...

He said it was a stupid or rookie mistake. It was that mistake that cost him the race, but he wasn't riding outside of his limit on tires he wasn't getting good feeling from which is what some others here were suggesting.

FP2 Results:

Lorenzo looked very unhappy, leaving the garage without even taking his helmet off. Had brake issues I believe.

....... Lorenzo.

Doesn't he know real men try even with brake issues? What a quitter.

Real men don't even need front brakes...

I know Crutchlow crashes a lot but .... me .... does he have to be the first guy in the first practice session of the season.

It's pretty obvious who he idolised as a child and tries to emulate

It was the reason Rossi gave as to why he crashed and it's a believable (at least for me) reason. If you think Rossi was lying about failing to adjust his braking marker then good for you... that would be an arm chair racer's wishful speculation.

But you said:

"Failing to adjust a brake marker isn't the leading cause of crashing in the wet. It only bit Rossi because of the tire change after the restart and he had better grip for acceleration."

Now you're saying Rossi say's otherwise. Which is it?

The Maniac with a blistering lap to vault from P17 to P2 in FP3.

Impressive.

Lorenzo will be in Q1. Rossi didn't look to have much in the tank either.

Crutchlow with some more crashing.

I don't think the front tire profile for Losail is going to be the same one they are using by the time we get to COTA.

You should reread what you wrote, you're not making any sense. Rossi gave an explanation for his crash at Assen, he never said anything about a leading cause of wet crashes.

You guys who said Lorenzo would struggle are right. I am thrilled to see Zarco there with excellent consistency. I believe he should have had the Suzuki seat. What is with "The Maniac"????

Entries for Qualifying TWO:
Vinales
Iannone
Marquez
Zarco
Dovizioso
Redding
Pedrosa
Folger
Crutchlow
Rossi

Lorenzo seems to be pretty rigid in his style and doesn't come across as someone who adapts to changes quickly, but the guy has immense determination and focus. It may take him some time to get his head around the new bike but when he does I think he will get some really strong results. I could see his frustrations with the bike while talking to his crew during FP2, hopefully he doesn't let it beat his spirits.

I'm really surprised about Iannone, he looked really strong on the Suzuki at the initial Valencia test, but he seems to be going backwards instead of improving with the bike.

There are lots of satellite teams up the top of the time sheets like Pramac and Tech 3 outdoing the factories although Its still only early days, many of the teams are still sorting the bikes and things could change up quite a bit by the time they get to Jerez.

I don't see Iannone maintaining that kind of pace for the duration of the race.

Either way as far as Suzuki goes, Rins was a bad signing. Too bad they didn't grab Zarco, but the good news for Tech 3 is that they have a pretty solid rider lineup for the first time in awhile.

Rossi still hasn't assimilated Vinales' telemetry. Still 48 hours for him to do that.

I can only hope Lorenzo has a Crutchlow PI 2016 type of turnaround. He had to take part in Q1 then won the race!

You should reread what you wrote, you're not making any sense. Rossi gave an explanation for his crash at Assen, he never said anything about a leading cause of wet crashes.

I - never said anything about Rossi. You made the assertion re: braking and when called on it - tried to back it up by calling Rossi as your star wittness.

Don't worry - it's just something everybody whose been paying attention to the sport has noticed - because it's emblazoned across his leathers and on his bike.:p

Just got out of my job interview... went well. Probably relocating out of TX soon so I have to make it to COTA this year.

Seriously, if you do get to COTA then brilliant, that place looks spectacular on the teev.

I'm strongly considering the Tavullia position, but I can't accept custard yellow monopoly money as compensation.

Just don't upset Uccio, apparently he has been known to lashout with his clipboard.

Its never about the racing. Watch this thread post race. 10 pages will discuss the race while another 30 will be about bashing Rossi and victimizing a rider long since retired.
I'll be watching the racing for the future, not the past. Cant wait to see if the Alien bike can give birth to another mythological space creature

It will likely depend in all seriousness JKD on results.

If VR finishes lowly there will be cries of 'it is over' but if he wins or finishes very high up, it will be 'it happenned because of a, b and c conspiring' although it is also common to hear 'he rode brilliantly', then it goes down hill.

IMO only, but it should be a good year as we should see a few entries to the 'upset the applecart' category and may have added spice from a few sides this year.

My interest is not just those being spoken of regularly, but I do seriosuly want to watch the likes of Folger, Zarco and Rins whilst seeing how Miller goes (personal bias there) as for me, this is a make or break year

Well that was a rookie mistake if he failed to take into account his better acceleration would require him to brake earlier...

To be fair 22, he said as much.

He made a comment along the lines that the forgot about the added acceleration meant that he carried more speed but that he then hit the brakes at the 'usual' point but the more speed was of course the issue. I actually think he may have called it a 'rookie error' himself (it may have been a paraphrased comment I recall).

Either way, it was a .... up for which he took full responsibility
