Paris Hilton...cause for reflection

And I agree with the "loss of tobaco money is hurting". That must be huge as well.

Speaking of tobacco, Rossi vowed not to promote such a product. I guess the 15 mil has a way of making ones word be for sale. Any Rossi fans willing to call him on it?

Sounds like he sold out.Black and white.

That being said, any ideals some of us had in the early twenties that have gone by the wayside as time has gone on?

'sold out', what does that even mean?

That has no context in the real world and is only ever said by people looking in from the outside.

How quick would any of us 'sell out' if someone waved a few million euros in your face?

It means something. Having principles is not something one does out of mere convenience.

It's one thing to say you won't do an interview with a journalist you don't respect or you

won't appear on the cover of Teen Beat Magazine. But cigarettes kill people. Not the same

thing as appearing in an advert for expensive Swiss watches. Rossi fans deify the guy and

will be hard pressed to explain how a guy who is a millionaire many times over can justify

going back on his word over something he so passionately pledged not to do. It would mean

he was full of .....

bu-bu-bu-but according to barry, the 500s were easier to ride than the 800s...

I think you guys have no idea what the "ole two strokes" felt like

Mate, .... off. That's a pathetic argument.

"But cigarettes kill people".....Bleeding heart ........! Unless your a lab rat, no-one is forced to smoke.

Money talks. Simple as that.

If you could honestly tell me you would turn down a fortune because of your principles, I'll call you a liar.

Yeah... and no-one forces people to shoot heroin either.

Young people are suckered into believing that cigarette

smoking is glamorous by tobacco companies that spend

zillions of dollars a year to con them into killing themselves

with this stupid addictive substance. It's real simple -

people are dying all over the planet because they've

been fooled into thinking that smoking is cool. The

general public is incredibly gullible - and the use of

clever advertising to sell death - is not a bleeding heart

issue. It's plain and simple - totally immoral and unethical.

If I could convince your sister of her own free will to sell

her ..... to wealthy Arabs - would that be okay with you

- assuming it brought in enough Euros to pay for Rossi's

next season?

BTW - I split up with my first wife 35 years

ago - despite the fact that I knew she was to inherit 2 million

dollars in a year's time. So I in fact know what it's like to walk

away from big money. It's not that hard if you have self-respect

and some basic sense of decency.

Ahh yes the peak of civilisation...money is more important than your own integrity.

Why would Marlboro spend millions on sponsoring Ducati and Rossi? Because they love bike racing? Because they are boppers? Or could it be to sell cigarettes to fans?

If advertising didn't manipulate people into believing they want something that they would not want without the advertising then why would any company spend money on it?

Almost every opinion you have has been planted in your mind by an outside influence. The comment that money is everything says to me you have few thoughts of your own. Maybe you should practice a little mental anarchy and start forming your own thoughts!

I think his mistake was making the initial statement, never say never as they say; he may have been sincerely motivated at the time, but also probably didn't anticipate going to a cigarette sponsored team in the future.

Whilst I am likely to be at least as vehemently anti-smoking and anti-cigarette advertising as anyone on here, I still supported stoner on the ducati so won't call valentino a hypocrite. I would see more responsibility to lie with the teams and dorna/fim, but he did choose to make an individual statement as I have said. I believe he does smoke himself anyway at least.

Apparently - persuading you to think - was expecting too much.

In fact that was apparent from the first time you posted here.

Your avatar is that of Brian, a character who is liberal in the extreme

(bleeding heart if you will) and an intellectual moralist who abhors

the corporate mentality and the greed that it engenders. The

character Brian is extreme opposite of everything you stand for.

But you're too shallow and superficial to realize it..

being a big Family Guy fan, I know exactly what Brian is.

But sorry to break it to you, but he's not real mate.

Its just a cartoon.

Doh! (To quote from another cartoon)

No ..... But he "represents" an outlook that is opposite of yours.

You seem to suffer a huge disconnect between gesture and significance.

I hear you Sprog. Kesh is one of the good guys though. As I would tell Kesh, you are one of the good guys too. I admit, I was fishing a bit with the tobacco comment. But the reality is, Rossi painted himself in that corner, so he did go back on his word, that's just a matter of record. I think you and Kesh are arguing different things perhaps? I'm personally not against tobacco, and I'll even say its worse than alcohol. (Yes, coming from a guy that drinks a lot). I don't know why drunk driving deaths are so acceptable while there is an all out war campaign against smoking. I suppose it just that people feel alcohol is more benign for there own self interest because more people enjoy it, where as if you are not a smoker, then its easier to condemn it. But there is that principle thing, eh. Oh, btw, I don't smoke, but I am aware it causes health problems. I myself can't stand when I see a smoker sparking it up in a car with their kids, I'm thinking, are they also pouring them a shot of liquor at home too?

Sprog, about the use of this "sell out" idea. Its just a commentary used looking from afar. Are you aware that some people accused John Hopkins of selling out for a big paycheck to Kawasaki and leaving that juggernaut of success, Suzuki? Yeah, he was also called a sell out. But then again, he never said he would NOT leave either. I'm not sure I would call Rossi a sell out, but I'm not the one who publicly claimed they would never promote a cigarette company to what I think was an attempt to grandstand. We have a saying in Spanish, 'Cae más rápido un hablador que un cojo." variation of "Se atrapa mas rápido a un hablador que a un cojo." Translation: A loudmouth/big-talker will fall (on his face) faster than a lame (crippled) man. And the variation. A braggart will quickly be revealed as a fraud when he can't back up what he says. I'll even go so far as to say I'm grandstanding here in calling him out on what he said; but then again, he's the one that made the vow publicly. I don't think its that big of a deal actually, and perhaps my real motivation here is to simply throw egg in Rossi's worshipping fans who never can admit to the man being just as human as the rest of us.

No you don't have to change angle to keep your criticism up, you just have to suggest that Rossi has ruined the sport by forcing Gauloises & Camel out after working with them. & he will probably force out Marlboro if possible, taking away their valuable contribution when their contract is up at the end of next year. Nicely put Jum. As always.
