<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>An announcement will take place later today at Misano regarding the Qatar Grand Prix becoming the first MotoGP race to be staged under lights.

A press conference has been scheduled for 12.45 CET at which FIM president Vito Ippolito, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation president Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta will speak.

It is thought that they will announce that the 2008 Qatar event will become a night race, and will take place under floodlights at the Losail International Circuit.

The Qatar GP has already been confirmed as next year's season opener, a position that it occupied for the first time in 2007.

The move follows Formula One's decision to begin staging some races under floodlights, starting with next season's Singapore GP.

.... that - that means I'll have to get up at 5am or something! - This sux!

hmmm.... they better put up plenty of lights cause when rossi, krjr & ??? can't remember the 3rd rider went around the track last season at night under the lights, it wasn't so light.

i recon it will be great, i love to see new things tryed at least once.

yeah... will be fantastic if it happens!

...... idea, why bother racing at Qatar anyway, let alone at night.. Maybe theyre doing it so you cant see the crowd, or lack there of, black the stands out
<
.. I think they should move it to Turkey or an old track with tradition, like Spa or something.. Man Dorna are dumb sometimes..

anyone remember when british touring cars used to race some rounds at night? they were awesome races. does anyone know if the bikes will have lights on, like in edurance racing or is the flood lighting gonna be bright enough to do away with them?

Sounds really cool. Nice spectacle to watch. Plus running it at night means Europeans and Americans can watch it. I think Aussies can catch the coverage on Monday morning, right?

Why is NASCAR running through the back of my mind?

Will be a late evening race so I guess it will be aired at around 9pm local. So it would be prime time in Europe (around 10pm).

Americans will be happy, no need to wake up early, should be around lunch time there.

I think it's a good idea. At least the airing hours are good!

I think it was Capirossi, however if you remember they also raced around on stock bikes with headlights on as well. Since they are onto the gimmicky thing, why not make all the riders race on factory stock bikes, with headlights on of course.

flood lights, just be to much hassle to put lights on the bike's

Night racing usually gives a good atmosphere, and its usually better for the spectators that go to the race because they don't have to get up at 3am to go. The only thing with night racing is if it rains, then things can get a little complicated..

I think its a good idea. Considering that Qatar has lots of money, I think they will supply enough light to make it safe, plus the 17 people that go watch the race won't have to deal with 127 degree weather. At night it will only be 105.

Does it rain in Qatar?

Does it rain in Qatar?

It does occasionally I think. I remember it raining on practice day for WSB a couple of years back.

True, but then they did think that putting up a few lights on some of the corners was sufficient lighting, so I'm not convinced. Plus Qatar is a desert, so actually it'll be freezing during the night.

i thought qatar was already on in the middle of the night, wont it make it live at a sensible time???

whatever, i think it could be good - i have images of them all wearing helmets with lights on the front, like miners
<

I think this is a stupid idea that will last one season. Instead of riders complaining about their tires, they will be complaining about their lights..

I think a night race would be pretty cool. They do have enough money to equip the track with state of the art lighting and hopefully thats the route they go with, if they don't then the riders will ......
