Whaaat? Depuniet sucked BEFORE he ever got on a DUC. Every team he has been on in GP....crash.....randy, randy eats gravel candy. So by trying to pawn off the problems on the Ducati is way out of line. If he was so great and strong etc, etc, why isn't he on any of the factory machines? He in my opinion is fast at times but has zero consistency. At this point I think he should make the switch to SBK. He would most likely crash there to but who knows. Randy hasn't done anything really to speak about in GP other than his notorious behavior in the kitty litter. I hope he goes somewhere else just because the sport needs riders who consistently finish races, not just a lap or two.

His first MotoGP years (2006/7) were on the Kwak where he had 7 race retirements each season and his first year on the Honda saw 5 race retirements. Can't remember how many, if any, were due to mechanicals or other riders taking him down though.

However I think you missed 2009 and 2010 when RDP retired in two races each season, though breaking his leg in Sachsenring in 2009 meant he had a DNS at Indy. He had just started to become more consistent in the races when he got handed the Pramac and he crashed that a lot whilst overriding IMO.

Nope didn't miss it, I have been there watching GP for a looong time. It just seems that RDP is in the series to fill an spot for "the Frenchman". He is fast when there isn't anyone around, but for some reason he just can't keep it on two wheels. He has to have more crashes per week than any of the other riders per year. I would like to see someone more capable on one of the machines other than him. He has had his chance more than he should. Sure he has some flashes of mid pack but not often enough. In this current climate of GP racing, they should dump him and get someone else. IF they need a frenchman, then they are SOL.

Then perhaps you haven't been paying attention. de Puniet has had numerous front row starts on a private Honda. I believe LCR had purchased "factory kit" from Honda in either 2009 or 2010, but not sure how factory it really was. Lauren Vickers spoke about him receiving HRC electronics as a performance bonus, so it obviously isn't exactly factory. That said, any private team qualifying on the front row is a monumental effort. How many times did Spies do it? How many times did Melandri do it last year? How many times did Simoncelli do it?

Yes, he's always been a crasher. But he's never had top drawer equipment. That has only been exacerbated while at Ducati. Dorna don't need a Frenchman, and that's been de Puniet's biggest problem. Because if given the choice between de Puniet and Cruthclow, I know who I'd want in my team.

Good post. Given Randy's performance on Bautistas bike, it gives more support to ur take.

Agree Austin, he's one of the most exciting riders out there, and with the right bike, could ruffle a few feathers.

Actually, none of these guys suck.

As Austin says - passport, so often the problem. You frequently find that a latin bloodline guaranteeing a raft of Spanish sponsorship can do wonders for consistency.

Unless your name is Toni Elias.

Thats right. The french market place ain't anywhere near as big as the Spanish, British, American or German etc etc etc. Dorna don't actually need a RDP riding a bike to help promote the series.

Will Rizla stay in MotoGP.

Will we see a CRT bike in blue Rizla colours ??

Looking at that list, there are some highly suspect names. Will the qual requirements remain the same for next year? And will they stick to them or allow provisional starts?

All of the bikes (except the Grillinis) ran well inside the 107% qualifying limit. If you have 23 bikes on the grid (or maybe even 25) then you can easily exclude riders if they don't make the 107% cut, as they did in Moto2 and 125s.
