MotoGP Catalunya: Casey Stoner to demo RCV road bike

We don't know what the bike can or cannot do so alleging that the bike doesn't perform is presumptive.

For all we know, the base road-version could be better around a circuit than other superbikes.

Yes - but is it realistic to think it's going to be (assuming it's priced at $200,000.00) $185,000.00 better than a literbike from Yamaha or Suzuki? The salient note is that all available info points to it not being good value for the money being asked. You could buy the Suzuki and get a Yosh factory kit with all the bells and whistles and still have a lot of money left over.

Keshav beat me to it. I actually agree with what you say Lex, but then my brothers 1988 Honda NS125F 2 stroke road bike is faster round some tracks here than Yamaha R1's. Does that make it worth £136,000?!

As Keshav said, my issue with the Honda is it is not good value for money, not at all.

I think you are ALL missing the point. Those who CAN afford it don't give a flying .... about its specs or track performance, they only care about the exclusivity.

Oh I haven't missed that point Mick, and am entirely in agreement. But then they are ........ with more money than sense....

Eagerly awaiting some shampoo to be massively overpriced when it's launched in an exclusive limited edition colour...

That might be true, but demand is driven by all of the hardcore enthusiasts. They are the trend setters who generate the hype, which ultimately influences the investors.

Also, Honda is an engineering firm. They have too much pride to ask six-figures for a shoddy cookie-cutter. We'll probably find out that this bike has some of the most exotic alloys and state of the art construction techniques ever used in a production vehicle. The bikes will also be hand built. The engines will be blueprinted at the factory. The titanium sport exhaust will probably be a complicated work of art, like the exhausts used in MotoGP.

For all we know, Honda will lose money on this bike, just like they allegedly lost money on the RC30 and RC45. They were just halo products to keep their engineers from getting bored.

Wouldn't consider guys like like Jay Lenno an enthusiast. As someone who is heavily invested in the market - I would cringe at the idea of owning stock in a company involved in creating a vanity project destined to lose that kind of money. In the event, the sale of 100 limited edition bikes is hardly a trend. The whole thing smacks of pure vainglorious pretension.

Consider how long the 1000cc V4 Superbike rumors have been around. I think this project has been going for the better part of a decade. The rumors first started as a $100,000 V4 homologation special for World Superbike. Then it turned into a $250,000 production race-only bike for MotoGP.

The RCV road bike seems like an afterthought. Honda realized they needed to release something after years of development, and this is the result. The road version of the race-only production bike Dorna were asking for.

then they would...casually cruise & wave while wearing a bow tie & skinny jeans with their vintage red wing boots & glitter bubble shield helmet.

I need to get me a pair of the red wing boots! I have a pair of hipster glasses that would go so good with them.

Speaking solely for the USA, I've seen Honda getting lambasted around the internet for this joke of a bike they are releasing.

I don't care if this thing is aimed at people with the sort of disposable income to not question the colossal waste of money this bike represents, but relative to what the Ducati Desmo RR was in price, it is a huge let down.

$200,000 USD for a bike that would get left behind by any liter bike on the market. Christ, I'm pretty sure you could walk away from this thing even with the Triumph Daytona 675. Even if this RCV were $30K it would be overpriced.

Honda has turned into such a ....... joke nowadays with their consumer products at large, this is just one more instance with how out of touch to reality they are.

According to the Chief Operating Officer of Honda Motor Japan, Tetsuo Suzuki, the bikes will be hand-assembled by HRC technicians at the rate of “one per day,” and that Honda/HRC have “decided to end the production period at the end of next year (2016).” That means that around 400 or so units will likely be built for worldwide distribution.

Hand-assembled....lol no doubt this is being tossed around as a selling point to make this thing sound like the equivalent of a Ferrari.

I wish Honda would stop wasting their time on ...... things like this and consider redesigning the CBR 600RR instead of rehashing the same tired bike year after year.
