I find it silly how people seem to have some magical discernable eye when describing particular riders style. Unless youve spent years racing and can understand what the bike is doing, it pretty much looks the same for most of the riders. The problem is the camera only focuses on the top 3 riders which happen to always be the same 3 riders. This ragged and smooth quality could probabaly be applied to most of the guys out there but because their up front suddenly their the only ones doing it. .... even Pedro lights up the rear regularly. Can anyone explain Yonny Hernandezs style? I doubt it. How about Nicky? It used to be a great topic when he was in front of the camera every week. How many slo mo cams of stoner did we see with the bike out of wack and people talk like he reinvented the wheel. Also the top bikes are so dialed in and nannied they have the ability to push harder then everyone else. Put the same cam on everyone and youll see similar footage.

I do think we're able to discern a certain style to certain riders. But completely agree with the ragged v smooth comment.

It's just Birty's little love offering to Farquez.

Actually I have all the races and can go back and review any rider (sometimes only seconds). At the moment I have been looking at Alvero to see why it is he can not get up front with the GooeyFun Honda. I have concluded (my conclusion-not a pure fact) that he is too harsh with corner changes and throttle to conserve tires. The bike is fast enough yet he does poorly. They regularly show his team during the race with their eyes glued to the ceiling watching him on closed circuit and yet no one is telling him to be smoother with his style. Or maybe they are and he is not listening to them

NO ......I do not study all the riders for every race. I only do those that peak my interest. As for the CRT's,  I can tell you more about their umbrella girls who get way more TV coverage.

I think it's more about riders ability to adapt their style to the bike as we know Stoner did very well. Dani slides the Honda because it likes to be ridden that way - where the Yamaha is a big 250 and if you want to be fast then you ride it like Lorenzo. I've made this point before, but have we really seen Jorge have to majorly modify his style? Develop and hone yes...I dont' think he'd be instantly quick on the RCV.

Last year at Brono when we had that titanic battle between Dani and Jorge, Pedrosa actually reduced his TC mid race because it was costing him drive, and he was sideways everywhere. Wonderful stuff!

Spoiler great racing SAT - SUN MX Festivel MX GP

Live on MOTORS-TV From Matterley Basin hosts the MX Festival Britain’s round of the FIM Motocross World Champiomship

i think Marc might be here and in between races he'll then nip over to Brno and win that too

How far back are you going? I'm looking for 1983 Swedish GP either highlights or whatever is available.

557953 nothing is off topic around here buddy. Good question. Actually I tried finding the 00 season review once. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to find (should have been a few clicks away). I ended up getting it on VHS from some Brit co. Getting a GP from 83, haha good luck. I'd try to contact the national archive. (Btw ur member name sux balls). Welcome to the forum friend.

It was a great race brotha. U've referenced this race often. I suppose its because the stark differences between the M1 and RCV were on display. I also think it was one of Pedros best performances with one caveat. I would also argue (as I did at the time) the win was quite a function of the particular RCV advantage in just the right places (namely the acceleration advantage up the final climb essentially deciding the race) that made that win possible. Either way it was good stuff by Pedro and a well deserved win (which I also said at the time...though minus Stoner). Plus Cal got his first podium.

Anyway, curious what u think about Cals style given the characteristics of the M1 being a "big 250". I agree Jlo rides it this way, but Cal does not, right? Yet he seems to perform rather well. He looks much more 'ragged' than Jlo or VR but is getting it to work for him. Not sure if u saw the feature interview he had recently on the gp site, but he admits starts are a challenge for him and feels if he improved, it would translate into a much better result. I know it seems obvious but I agree given his excellent pace in the latter stages. So my question is, if the M1 requires this ultra smooth style, why is Cal making it work? Cal does not have the lower category GP pedigree that (to me) seems overly exalted (I'd argue its most advantageous element of lower category GP participation are: name recognition by the League's leaders, the acclamation to the series, paddock relationships, and track knowledge, rather than some special skill set honed there that other series dont offer. Especially given the need for all promoted to "adapt" to the premiere class, the degree of which has changed).

Im not sure if Lorenzo would suffer much on today's RCV, as I think Marc would be his only real competition anyway. But I do think it would straight away suit Cal. Of course purely circumstancial speculation, but perhaps thats why Ducati sought his services.

jum, 557953, drop me a pm if you're still looking for the review and race. can definately up the review, pretty sure i have a recap , full race or at least highlight video of the 83 swedish gp...

Just finished watching the pre event press conf. A few thoughts: VRs interviews this year have been more humble, measured, & insightful. I also always enjoy Jlos responses, his presence of mind is admirable. Last week Cal seemed smug and annoyed by the questions. Maybe he was tired of people asking him why he chose to go to Ducati.

No news from Nicky, but he is by far the best looking chap in GP. Speaking of which, Kropo, I noticed he turned quickly to ask Karl a question after Abraham was done answering ur question regarding the Honda Production Racer. I think Nicky's question to Karl was about the Aprillia, tho not sure. But I wonder if his sparked interest is a clue concerning options he is considering? I heard Karl say "Its not that bad but..." then the ....... guy interrupted for a group pic what otherwise would have been a fly-on-the-wall gem. Maybe u could do a follow up question to Karel about this little exchange and perhaps tangentially we can all speculate why Nicky was interested?

Salom seems a nice kid. As I was listening to his responses, I couldnt help but think what Cal would think about him riding around a GP with a fully numb foot! Seems a bit dangerous to him and others riding around on a injured foot. Now Karel said he was going to race under the influence of an anesthetic to his shoulder.

JLo's responses also highlighted a thought I had while watching Indy, and that is that neither Pedro nor Jlo were/are fully recovered leading us to make further assumptions about Marc's god status. Sorry Krop, look away. But Jlo said despite the injury healing, they are still suffering from a lack of training. These are the nuances that most spectators often miss when analyzing the outcomes. Pedro and Jlo did seem to fade rather indicating this reality. (I know, Kropo only understood me saying Marc is ....).

Another thought, VR and Jlo seemed to suggest that the M1 is no match for the RCV (though Jlo was much more subtle about it and quiped, "I hope we dont NEED it because we dont HAVE it!); VR expressed the seamless gearbox as almost a necessity to compete. Again nuance, im thinking if VR had been the lead rider and undisputed title contender as in years past, more people would be writing about how the M1 is inferior and Vale is not being given the tools to complete. He certainly would be making more noise, as he said, though toned down perhaps, its the most pressing "daily question" he has for the Japanese: " Is the gearbox ready?" My conclusion, a bit more evidence that the RCV is completely superior.

Marc is a likeable kid. Has good responses. Its gonna be tuff to beat him. VR conceded, we may have a small advantage on Friday because of our recent testing here, but we wont carry that advantage into Sunday.

good points jum , observed the same with rossi since start of the year. in a lot of ways (for me at least), him going to ducati was the best thing that happened to him.

the hayden/aprilia rumors are the most interesting of the silly season

like = please upload?

i'm at home now, if you want it now is the time to tell me ;)

good thoughts jum,

I laughed when i saw rossi's face after he was asked if he thought the gearbox was necessary.  From that response he must think it really is.  I would have to agree, it seems the hondas have the edge this year.  (they had it in the second half of last year when they sorted out that chatter issue)

It will be hard to beat marc this weekend.  He is going to carry that momentum with him.

I don't really understand the current trend of JLo and Pedro talking down their chances. A rookie is 20 odd points in front with 8 races to go and they sound like they are ready to concede.

Where's the guy who walks into the press conference and says "My shoulder feels 100% and we're turning the wick up on my engine this weekend so I can wipe the smile off this little prick's face".

This is the new PC world we live in where everything is politically correct and .... talking and bad mouthing your opponents is banned.

I really would love to see Pedrosa decimate Marc and lower the kids morale this weekend. Or Lorenzo can do it, either way, that grin needs to go away. I think maybe it's stuck like that since he had that crash in Mugello? They said it ...... up his chin, so maybe that explains it. Or was he always permanently grinning?

Yeah but don't let him know it just yet. I think Rossi said something like 'we need to .... him now or it will be too late'. It's too late for the old man but the other two can push him till he throws it into the stands.

To push him they have to be as quick as him and that's the problem.

Given their injuries I think they're holding a little in reserve, especially Pedrosa. Guess we'll see soon enough.

Spa and Brno, top weekend.
