MotoGP 13 Austin: THE RACE

Not funny..

It is to everybody here who's friends with two of the most long longtime members of the forum whose families come from the other side of the Rio Grande.

Did you catch any attendance numbers? I the COTA money grubbers lost their shirt, MotoGP may not outlive whatever contract COTA and Dorna currently share.  (Do they have a multi-year deal?)

I believe I heard 60,000.

Did Marquez drink that champagne? He's underage, isn't he? Did Pedro point that out to the authority (discreetly)?

My friend, who trained as a lawyer, informed me that under Texas law, it is legal for alcohol to be served to a minor on private property. He gave it a pass.

I won't write-off Pedrosa yet - he will come into his own in Europe and I think he is just playing it safe for the start of the season. But something about this race made me think Marquez was playing with him and could have passed him any lap he wanted.

Lorenzo has his game face on this year - he barely looks at Marquez after the race. Can't wait to see them come up against each other on track.

It is an even three way fight for the championship, with Rossi there to spoil the party occasionally.

Pretty boring races.

Seriously though, what the hell is going on with Spies? Chest pain? Mystery illness? Casey Stoner Syndrome?

Also, anyone who has the video pass... Watch Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards post race interviews, both are pretty hilarious.

Hayden gets less than he expected

<p style="background-color:transparent;Although Nicky Hayden was the leading American rider in Sunday’s inaugural Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, the Kentucky man hoped for much more.

<p style="background-color:transparent;As Ducati Team partner Andrea Dovizioso managed to finish seventh, Hayden could muster no more than ninth position – 11 seconds further back.
<p style="background-color:transparent;“It was a tough weekend,” he began. “The track was great, but I lost some time in the beginning and was struggling with change of direction. I was okay on much of the track, but I never found the confidence in the front end to flick the bike into the corners, which hurt me in the esses. The guys did a good job getting me a better bike for the race and I don’t really have any excuses. Ninth place isn’t what we wanted here today, so I certainly hope we can sort a few things out and start putting up a better fight than we have in these first two races.”
<p style="background-color:transparent;Teammate Dovizioso was somewhat more cheerful:
<p style="background-color:transparent;“Obviously, we’re not satisfied with seventh place, but the race time wasn’t bad. I was able to keep a good pace below 2’06, so I’m pleased with my aggression and effort. I managed to be pretty consistent up until the final five or six laps. The last three laps with Bautista were fun - a nice battle! We know we have to work hard, because this is our limit at the moment, but we’re really motivated to improve.”
<p style="background-color:transparent;Round 3 of the season takes place in Jerez, Spain on the first weekend of May.

<p style="background-color:transparent;Colin Edwards could make no impression in the first ever Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, in which he had hoped to put on a strong showing in front of his adoring Texan crowd. Instead, the NGM Mobile Forward Racing rider became the first retirement.

<p style="background-color:transparent;Pulling into the pits just after half distance, the FTR Kawasaki rider lamented having to recall catalogue of issues suffered on Sunday.
<p style="background-color:transparent;“I’m not sure we had the best package to start with this weekend,” he told motogp.com with a smile. “We had some gearbox drivetrain issues. This morning we developed a chatter, like there was no slipper clutch whatsoever and like nothing was working. So we went back to how we had had the bike yesterday and went out there in the race.
<p style="background-color:transparent;“It’s hard to turn in when the rear wheel is off the ground. You just roll in straight and wait for somebody to turn in in front of you…I just went backwards and backwards and couldn’t do anything about it.”
<p style="background-color:transparent;Despite his disappointment, the 39-year-old and eldest rider in the MotoGP™ field praised Circuit of the Americas and the race organisers for a successful first trip to Austin:
<p style="background-color:transparent;“It’s been awesome. I’ve been really proud of all of my fellow statesmen and the security has been awesome here. I would like to thank everybody for coming – it’s been awesome.”
<p style="background-color:transparent;Teammate Claudio Corti did finish the race, in 19th position.

Spoilsport.

Rather boring race - the first 5 came in in the order of Q2. Even though everybody seems to love this track so much, it seemed like the field would spread out pretty far from FP1.

Of course it was a great job by MM, it was his weekend from the first day. Pedrosa is too easily affected by whatsoever stuff, this time I think he claimed it was his arm (plus he made an ..... error once markyboy passed him). Lorenzo took what he could get (you win your championships on bad days, and if bad day means third, it's still looking promising against a rookie, an old hen, and a fragile small guy). Crutchlow in P4 was just expectable. Even though he ...... up again, which would result in crashing out on a real racetrack - but the spread-out performance nature of the circuit meant he could recover his place easily. Good to see Bradl finish. P5 is solid, and after Qatar it was well needed. I iliked the way he was fighting with Lorenzo in the beginning. I just hoipe they would solve their set-up issues, as he seems to be pretty much dependant on having everything just right. Vale fortunately already came up with an excuse. He lost some part of a brake disc, but his suparnatural goat ability still allowed him to reach 330+kph in every lap but two. Blabla. Good effort by Dovi, Ducati's 'tactic' of not introducing new parts until they have sorted out their present package seems a little less stupid with Dovi onboard. Bautista on a sat Honda should be closer to around P4-5, never seemed to be, whether here or in Qatar. Hayden seems a little lost in his 5th season on a Duc, playing second fiddle to yet another new teammate. Iannone ok, Esparagaro keeps on carrying the CRT torch. Screw the rest from here onwards, that was not even ridiculous.

I just hope for some closer racing in Jerez. The idea of a three-way battle for the WC seems attractive, although Lorenzo is heavily favored in this regard.

Why is Spies struggling with the Ducati more so than the other 3 guys on the same?

Espargaro on the ART CRT in front of Smith & his M1 making it look like he should be on the Yam instead of BS38.

The track looks fantastic on TV.

Espargaro is in his third season in MotoGP. Smith is in his second race and at a track he has never ridden before.

And in nine years, Espargaro has managed exactly one single podium in any class.

Aleix might look fast and furious, but given nine years to get into a decent team, you have to think that there is a reason he ends up on .... machinery. Being Spanish, you would have to think the MotoGP mafia would make sure he was on a decent ride, if at all possible.

If you can believe what Herve Poncharal says, he is very happy with Smith's progress. I give quite a lot of credence to the guy paying the wages, especially as Smith isn't new to Tech3. He obviously knows something we don't and I guess we will see how he progresses. He is lapping around where Dovizioso was last year (at Qatar), so not exactly a complete loser.

I think I will side with Poncheral and give him more than one complete race on a previously-unseen track before I write him off as a hopeless case.

Well done all nice show

Track not sure its a bike track F1 Place for me great facility though no doubt

Motogp looking up only if MM Has mixed it up, take him out and probably we'd have two avg races

motogp looking up CEV ? 3 races 3 new winners Spanish Armada well done guys

Thanks for the clarification Woodcote. Because of a few of my posts I am sure that your comments were partially directed at me.

You did mention that this is not the thread for personal insults but alluded that they would be acceptable in another thread.

As a law abiding person I just want to make sure that I am inside the rules.

If I were to call Keshav an angry, arrogant self appointed chief of the righteous nanny police , or Geo a unstable anger grenade full of fury shrapnel, what thread would I be able to post this in.
