The three-day test in Barcelona, which is scheduled to start on Wednesday, will bring together a selection of the Moto2 and 125cc entry lists at the Circuit de Catalunya.

A total of 42 riders across the new intermediate and 125cc categories – the maximum number permitted at the circuit – will be in attendance on the scheduled dates of February 17-19, and amongst them will be those who have regularly tested throughout the winter such as Julián Simón and Mike Di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar Team), Axel Pons and Sergio Gadea (Pons Kalex), and Yuki Takahashi and Raffaele De Rosa (Tech 3 Moto2). The likes of Gabor Talmacsi (Speed Up), Joan Olivé and Kenny Noyes (Jack&Jones by A. Banderas), Fonsi Nieto and Yannick Guerra (G22 HolidayGym), and Mashel Al Naimi and Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) will all also be part of the group of Moto2 riders present.

Amongst those not in attendance will be Scot Racing pair Alex de Angelis and Niccolò Canepa, and Italian rider Mattia Pasini (JiR Moto2). Toni Elías (Gresini) will also not be riding his Moriwaki prototype, but has said that it is his intention to be present to monitor the progress of his rivals.

In the 125cc class, title hopefuls Bradley Smith and Nico Terol (Bancaja Aspar Team), Pol Espargaró and Efrén Vázquez (Bainet Derbi), Marc Márquez (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) and Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) are amongst those who will be riding.

To see a more complete grid of Moto2 competitors, observers will have to wait until the official Moto2/125cc test at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, scheduled for March 1-3, when the Moto2 teams will also be supplied with the official 600cc Honda engines that will be used in the inaugural season in 2010.

Shoya Tomizawa was fastest on the first dry day of the inaugural Moto2 group test at Catalunya, while Wednesday pacesetter Roby Rolfo suffered a dislocated shoulder in an early accident.

Superbike convert Rolfo fell after just four laps this morning and dislocated his left shoulder, an injury that will sideline him for four weeks and rule him out of the major Moto2 test at Valencia on 1-3 March.

Former 250cc midfielder Tomizawa emerged fastest by the end of today with a 1m49.4s lap on his Technomag-CIP Suter MMX. Jules Cluzel and Yonny Hernandez were second and third, 0.2 seconds behind, ahead of 125cc champion Julian Simon and ex-MotoGP rider Yuki Takahashi, despite Simon having a crash.

Kenny Noyes was quickest in the morning, and ended up sixth overall.

Other riders to fall without injury today included Aspar's Mike di Meglio, Thomas Luthi, Vincent Lonbois, Alex Debon and Fonsi Nieto.

Although 24 of the new Moto2 machines were on the track today, many likely frontrunners - including former MotoGP men Toni Elias, Alex de Angelis and Niccolo Canepa - are waiting until the Valencia test and the arrival of the official Honda Moto2 engine before starting to test in earnest.

Those are closer to 125 times than 250. I hope for their sake that was a combination of ...... track and weak engines.

All new bikes, all new riders on them.

It will probably take them a while to get things going.

It is interesting because of the "all new" thing though, thee's not an aweful lot of evolving from 250 to here

Okay they haven't got the spec motor yet, but Stefan Bradl is currently slower than he was last year on his 125 (51.4 versus 52.0).

There were also a lot of crashes, the red light was on ten times (well, it seemed like it). Scott Redding got his first and last runs in as planned, all the rest were interrupted by red lights.

Fastest today was Japanese teenager Tomizawa with 1:49.5, Jules Cluzel was next with 1:49.6.

The 250 absolute lap record is 1:.45.0—an astonishing effort from Jorge Lorenzo back in '07, the best race lap was de Angelis in the same year with 45.9. Last year's pole was 1:46.7 by Hector Barbera.
