MOTEGI GP 2011: RACE

Good point. I think this pass from Stoner wins the most risky pass of the race

He was just getting a closer look at the ducati chasis. Hasn't seen it in a race for a while. Alternatively he was showing off to Hayden how much front grip the Honda has.

Well, that was different......not the usual procession behind Stoner! Felt for Dovi today, he was right on it, pushing Casey to revert to folding under pressure, but hey ho, he screwed the start and took the penalty.

And your boy did what?
<
Dovi if none of the others was on softs anyway which ran out at the end of the race.

I am curious whether Dani and Dovi would have catched Stoner, as they both upped their pace and recorded faster laps than Casey. Just befor his off track excursion, Stoner wasn't really far in front and Dovi was closing on him. Too bad there were so many crashes and mistakes.

Fastest laps dani 1:46 .090, dovi 1:46.114 on softs which ran out late in the race, stoner 1:46.193 the second lap after his excursion, lorenzo 1:46.398, simoncelli 1.46.484.

I still don't think stoner would have beaten dani who had one of his days out even with he, dani and lorenzo apparently on hard rears, and if he wanted to win he shouldn't have had the lose.

Stoner was very lucky (and probably rather skilful as well a la rossi at laguna seca 2008) not to put the bike down and hence got 16 points more than he might have done, and only lost 4 to lorenzo. This doesn't quite cancel out jerez imo but goes close. I don't think he would have won anyway particularly if either he or dani was on soft tyres, or lorenzo for that matter; those guys ride them better than him and he can't make them last race distance.

Of cource he was lucky to save it at the right time and also 2 riders were penalized, but based on what i have seen from Stoner and Honda this year and after watching the race, i think he could have finished in front of Lorenzo at least. Your right that Stoner is harder on his tires but so far in 2011 only once he has found tire problems in the race. He lost 4 points today, while he could win 9 or at least 5 or 4 points from Lorenzo.

His explanation shows that he was sure of a win. This is what Stoner said after the race:

"It's really disappointing as we had the bike to win here today, but in the end I guess I should be thankful that we were able to climb back up to a podium spot after other people's misfortunes and mistakes on track," Stoner said.

"The whole weekend had gone so well for us and even the start of the race we got a great start and everything felt good in the first laps and I was able to pull a small advantage.

"As I came out of the back straight I got a wobble on the bike, we hit the big bump and as the front came down it practically shook the bars out of my hands, I was lucky to hold on.

"I went for the brakes and there was nothing there so I had to pump them up a couple of times, when I pumped it the second time if flicked me up over the front and I was lucky to stay on the bike. I sat the rear up but there was no way for me to stop - I was happy to pull it up as much as I did.

"Thankfully I avoided hitting the wall at the end of the gravel trap but this pretty much ended our race. I suppose we can be happy with third but we could have achieved much higher - I would have liked to be up there fighting.

"I'm looking forward to going to Phillip Island now and to see what we can achieve there, I've got a Championship lead to protect but I also want to win races which is why I'm disappointed here today".

This is what Rossi said about his crash:

"It's really a shame to be out of the race after two corners, especially after the progress that we made this weekend, and with the knowledge that we'd worked on the bike well," Rossi reflected.

"I was fourth in the morning warm-up, and when you also consider the troubles that Stoner, Simoncelli and Dovizioso had, we could have fought for the podium, which would have been really nice for us.

"We were a little unlucky. Unfortunately, Lorenzo went onto the grass slightly in Turn 1, and in the next turn he moved suddenly to get his trajectory right. He didn't see me because I was slightly behind.

"When he touched me, it pushed me into Spies, who touched my front brake lever. It was normal racing contact, but I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"It's a challenging time for us, but we hope we're on the right path."

Well, that was different......not the usual procession behind Stoner! Felt for Dovi today, he was right on it, pushing Casey to revert to folding under pressure, but hey ho, he screwed the start and took the penalty. Must have been made worse by Super Sic beating him. Rossi was excited and got himself into the wrong place, racing incident, that's all. Scud and Alvaro? Must both be well pissed off today! Nicky, a combination of red mist and Stoners teeth blinded him. Sideshow Bob came good in the end.

Not the race I expected!

If for no other reason - a race worth watching. Can't remember a race that engendered so much would-a, should-a, could-a.

Sorry to see Nicky fall back so much considering he was working the Duc the best he has all season.

Rossi looked like a clown again, and still I kinda feel sorry for him.

Too bad for Dovi - his ride through was really unjust.

Good to see Simo ride like a pro with no stupidity.

And the Pie Man... I tell yah, somewhere's out there someone is sticking pins in a Spies Voodoo doll. Never seen him look that angry at the end of race.

Stoner - what to say? ...... luck with the brakes. Kept his cool. Still ahead of the game. Would loved to see a three-way fight between the three Repsols as they were all going so well.

And WTF w Niaal McKenzie like a lout mentioning the winner of the Moto 2 race? Otherwise I loved having him in the commentator box.

....... ride-throughs really kept this from being a super-duper, top-notch race.

Okay - now I've had my say, all the girls can go back to having their personality spats.

Good thing to know that Rossi doesn't blame anyone and that he considers this just a normal racing contact. Actually I think he is right, he could have fought for the podium. Too bad this happened exactly when he began showing some progress with Ducati.

This is what Stoner said after the race:

Stoner incident was a very interesting one. I think it was caused by the big bumps he kept talking about during the entire weekend....the bumps created by the earthquake. Eventually, they punished him for complaining about their presence. His bike shook so violently that I thought he'd crash on the straight.....he even totally missed his line, entering the corner way too tight.

That sort of false start obviously gives no advantage but I have never seen it not called in any form of motor racing, and I don't think the officials have any choice under the rules. It may have been a better race but probably only cost simoncelli and dovi one place.

Rossi had been beat to that corner, he didn't concede, as he should have, ran into the back of Lorenzo. that lack of conceding cost Spies a good race. FACT.

The thing that really did it was that Rossi was in his blind spot, and Lorenzo moved rather suddenly to the right, to take a wider entry and a later apex. In doing that, he hit Rossi. I don't think it was the fault of either rider, it was a racing incident with 19 riders in a very small space.

Dovi moved before the lights went out, but didn't seem to cross the white line with the front wheel?

Truckload of crap!

none of that happened.

No grass for Lorenzo

He was at least a metre away from Spies when he went down under Spies ( no wonder Spies is miffed )

Rossi just went in too hot again and tried to steer across the back of Lorenzo

Rossi has lost it

You'd think he'd own up like a man at least.

Breaking news. Motogp has signed an agreement to have a race in the Ukraine starting next season. They felt that after the extreme success of the Japanese GP that it would only be fitting to have races in more such places. So as of 2012 they will be adding the Chernobyl GP to the calendar. Get your tickets now!!!! Be on the look out for the Haiti GP in 2013.

from watching the video it was Nick who clipped the dirt before the Rossi crash (nothing to do with the crash), but it was J-lo who bumped Rossi when he adjusted his line who then bumped Spies... race incident as far as im concerned..

interesting race to say the least with all the drive throughs and crashes..

BBC reported to stoner " its not often we see you make a mistake casey. Tell us what happened". Casey to reported " it wasn't a mistake, i hit a bump. Ive been hitting it all weekend". hahahaits like having a pothole in the road on your way to work but you hit it every day.. epic fail !

spot on. cant be avoided when there is a whole bunch of bikes wanting the same piece of track.

No doubt. I'd just liked to have seen some close interaction between the trio of Repsol riders as they all seemed in top form.

Better result for Jorge tho and twould seem the points race will go down to the final race which is always fitting.
