MOTEGI GP 2011: RACE

Stop stirring the shitpot!
<

What Stoner meant is that when passing someone, you have to let the other guy know you are there. Otherwise he's liable to come all the way down to the edge of the track, leaving you nowhere to go and causing a crash.

For perhaps the fist time I'm going to call BS on a Stoner press statement.

Watching the replay, I think Stoner's timing was was on the ragged edge of 'safe.' We've all seen late passes like this end in the gravel. Nicky wasn't freaking "leaning on" anyone, he was just taking a normal entry line. 27 put his front wheel in a place Nicky could see it at the last possible moment before Hayden reached the apex of the corner. If Stoner had arrived half a second later, there would have been no room left and h'e have had his front wheel chopped off, most likely causing an instant replay of the Simo/Peddles encounter earlier this year. Given that Stoner is riding for the title, it seems odd that he'd make such a dodgy pass.

IMO, Casey should have offered Haystack a mild apology, "Sorry mate, I didn't get that one quite right" instead of a press release accusing him of 'leaning' on people.

You can call bs on many more statements than this one, even his most ardent fans would concede he doesn't always, or perhaps even often, engage his brain before he speaks. The press knowing they can get a good sound grab/quote from him hence frequently ask him leading questions. Nicky made no complaint and stoner made no spontaneous comment on the pass, I hope stoner privately would have been closer to making a mild apology along the lines you suggest rather than saying anything negative.

I think ragged is fairly close to the mark, this is close to the least precise pass I have seen from him in the premier class. Whilst it was obviously in no way nicky's problem that stoner had an off and was behind him, given the relative pace of the 2 bikes, it being fairly inevitable he would eventually pass, nicky having made it clear no easy pass was on and that stoner has a championship to win I think it was acceptable; I think at this stage he also hadn't given up on winning the race.

Stoner had one of those days, a throw back to years gone by. He had that old irritated look about him after the race. Read all his comments. To me broken down he said f#$k those bumps nearly killed me, f#$k off its not my mistake, f#$k the the pass on Hayden I was in a hurry, f%$k 3rd place I want to finish 1st, now lets get the f#$k outa here back to PI and Adriana I need a hug.

Thank God he didnt say Hayden dramatically changed his line.

I liked the pass but I also like aggressive racing. I've faulted Casey before on his racecraft or lack of and taken those remarks back after realizing how difficult it must have been to not only ride the Duc at the speeds he was taking it but to also race it at the same time. I think he's actually still gaining confidence with the Honda and he's starting to show it with some of the passes he's done this year. I don't think he attempts that pass if he was still on the ill handling Duc, that Honda is letting him really shine.

I agree Hawk....if we are going to complain about these sort of passes then this sport is on a downward spiral....no contact was initiated, no riders were unfairly disadvantaged and both riders continued on their merry way.

I doubt CS would have tried this move on the Duc as it would have been too risky but on the Honda he certainly seems to be a lot more agressive with his overtaking - but all of his passes so far this year seem to me within the bounds of what is fair and acceptable.

I also think his "mistake" was in fact a wonderful piece of riding to salvage what could have been a disasterous end result. Not having any brakes at the end of such a fast section of the circuit can hardly be blamed on him and the fact he made it back onto the track and salvaged third was an excellent effort.

If people want to take swipes at Stoner for something this weekend I have to say I for one was fairly dissapointed he didnt acknowledge the crowd on the slow down lap - especially after what the Japanese have been through this year. Even though I am sure he was gutted with the final result (he seems to only consider winning an acceptable dividend) he still should have given a wave to all those that attended the race. He can certainly be churlish when results dont go his way....I guess that is why he is so good at winning as second place is first loser in his book. Still it wouldnt kill him to at least pretend he is OK with a podium and give something back to the fans who after all, ultimately pay his wages.

I don't see what all the drama is. Stoner was just saying that Hayden is a hard man to pass, and he can get physical. He's just saying he had to think about how to pass Nicky, and that was pretty obvious as he trailed him for quite a while waiting.

Holy ..... This entire post makes sense.

Generally yes, but given the stupidity of your recent posts I thought I'd mention it.

Which one's? So typical of you to make insulting statments but not even try to back it up. It's not my fault you cant ilistrate your pics properly or for that matter id the correct bikes to put spin on your non existant point. It wasn't just me who picked up on that either !

And may I point out, not even one emoticon. I don't believe he actually wrote it if you ask me. The website has been acting weird lately, its obviously a glitch of some sort. I'm sure his next post will be .... and normal transmission will resume.

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension— a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.

ha ha ppl

i just think stoner sometimes puts his brain into gear last and not first.

to me its a situation of why say .... anyway (get on with it) or have a dig a Nicky

anyway Rossi's hurts he bust his finger at motegi and nickys on a plane to jerez to do the duc last test

He responded to a direct question posed by an americam journalist who asked him about the pass on Hayden....I guess if people dont like the reponse that is another point entirely.....Is it better to not talk to the press at all? He is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt.

There has also been an article up on crash.net about this exact incident and it has not recieved a single comment in 3 days....that kinda says it all really - it is a non-issue for most people.
