Melandri set to go under the knife

It is a shame.. Marco is carrying a lot of injuries and unfortunately it might have an effect on his career in the future

Ah, so it's nothing to do with the Catalunya crash, it's a long-term thing he's had. Anyway...good luck to him and I wish him a speedy recovery!!

Come on, it's Melandri. You know he could be halfway through a heart transplant, if Fausto Gresini comes in and says "Marco, we gotta race in 10 minutes!" He'd be on the grid in five. Marco of Steel.

From Crash.Net

Triple 2006 race winner Marco Melandri is recovering in Hospital after undergoing surgery on a 'niggling injury' in his left arm.

The successful surgery was conducted by Doctor Gondolini at Villa Serena in Forli, Italy, and the Gresini Honda rider will be able to leave hospital tomorrow (Thursday). The Italian then has two weeks to recover before making his 800cc debut during testing at Jerez on November 28.

"I have struggled during the whole year because my left arm tended to stiffen up and, despite medical treatment, the situation got worse and worse with every race," explained Melandri. "After the operation, I'll take a fortnight off, before getting on the Honda 800cc at Jerez at the end of the month. After the test, I will take a week off for a well deserved vacation, I think in some nice place by the seaside."

Meanwhile, Melandri won't undergo an operation to treat the seperate muscle compression problems in his right leg since, according to Dr. Gondolini, this kind of injury responds to other forms of treatment.

am i right in thinking this is this arm pumping up thing thats common with bike racers. i think kr jnr had the op a few years ago and it aloud him to break much later. if im wrong let me no.

He'll be right pretty quick, it's a fairly standard op with good long term effects. He's hard as nails anyway.

They should leave it, he'd win the title then...always seems to be quicker when he's injured! Nah, speedy recovery Marco!
