Melandri might be riding for Kawasaki at Sachsenring

..hmm....so apparently it wasn't so.
Suppo has said Marco will race another 2 gp's with the Duc to fulfil contractual obligations worth 2.5 million euros. Oh well...I see. I'd stay on a bike I'm not getting on well with for 2 races for that amount. Suppo is apparently none too pleased about it.

Hey Austin, I think Antfan would disagree with you, I just pulled up this little gem, enjoy.

Antfan when discussing Hopkins switch to Kawasaki and his chances as Westy's teammate:

Antfan's reply of how another Aussie like Vermi stacks up to Westy.
I actually drank the Westy kool-aid. I thought he may have had something, then it finally occurred to me that he is a wet-weather specialist. That's it. Phenomenal in the rain, .... in the dry. Unfortunate.

Oh Pinky. HRC headed that switch and the decision was made before Rossi had lost. When did they decide to switch to 800s? 2005? HRC headed the effort, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki followed suit in the name of "safety." Ducati was the only manufacturer that voted to remain with 990s. You can always count on Ducati to do the right thing (matters involving Loris Capirossi not included).

Irony can be pretty ironic.

My understanding of the problem with loris was that they had already signed melandri for 2008 and only signed casey stoner for 1 year, presumably with the intention of running melandri and capirossi in 2008, and they still seemed very keen on loris early in the 2007 season. It would have been pretty hard for them to punt casey stoner when he was leading the world championship at contract time. They did make noises about running a 3rd factory bike for loris, but I accept as people said at the time that this was a fairly token offer.

Sete's last test results must be a kick in the nuts for Marco. Only 4 tenths off Caseys pace...

Ironic?. Why would they sign the guy for just one year since they built that bike just for him?

The main irony I was referring to was ducati being the only team to vote to stay with the 990 formula then winning the first 800 world championship as I guess you also realised; I am happy to take credit for the secondary ironic implication as well

Right you are Rog... Pinky doesn't faze me don't worry.
And yeah, I've been busy

Here goes...sorry it's late!

We had anticipated it in the Grand Prix blog, but now we have confirmation from Ducati: “Melandri will race the next two races in the world championship”, says Livio Suppo.
A change of direction when compared to the rumour of the past few days that Marco would already be racing for Kawasaki in Sachsenring. What has convinced the rider and the Borgo Panigale-based company that the divorce can wait is the sum of 2.5 million euros, as stated black on white on the Ravenna man’s contract.
Therefore Gibernau, currently busy testing at Mugello, will have to wait a bit longer before getting onto the red bike’s saddle, perhaps training for a few more weeks to rediscover his ideal pace and throw himself back into the GP fray.
Meanwhile Melandri seems to be hanging in there, motivated by the economic aspect rather and a real and proper willingness to try and give the desmosedici some faith. Suppo seems none too enthusiastic about the situation, but for the moment that is how things have to go forward. Another two GP’s, then we’ll see.

So there you have it girls and boys.

Ok, a question from way way out left.

Is Marco's contract with Ducati to race in MotoGP, or Ducati to race Ducati motorcycles?

The reason for the question is that if it is Ducati to race motorcycles (and there is no MotoGP stipulation in the contract), could they not allow him to see out the year, then place him into Bayliss' shoes in WSBK without a breach of contract.

Fanciful .................. yes.

But just wanting to throw it out there given the reported financial implications if 'sacking' him.

If Marco, his manager and his legal advisors share one brain cell between the lot of them, then Marco would never have signed a contract that would allow ducati to shunt him into superbike without him being able to do anything about it.
Fanciful...yes.

Thanks yet again bikergirl. How many languages other than english and italian are you so proficient in?

I guess this means his contract cuts both ways, there are penalty clauses for ducati as well as performance clauses for him.

And that is exactly as I suspect it to be, but still worth mentioning or at least asking.

This proficient in one more, slightly less so in two more

Only I can't shout about it or Jumkie will land on me like a sack of bricks and say I'm lying. Heehee...

If Melandri got a ride on a kawasaki you would see the real Melandri.

and if he got a Repsol Honda he would be title contender
