BikerGirl, is what you describe an Italian version of the Aussie 'tall poppy syndrome'?

That is where the Aussie people and media sometimes turn against a high profile person for any number of reasons, generally related to them getting to much press.

If so, it is unfortunate as no doubt it will be having an effect on his focus just when he needs it to be at it's prime.
Garry

Well it already has had a big effect on his focus this year. The tax bomb exploded right in the middle of the season. I think next year Rossi will have regained much of his usual balance.

Didn't this thread use to be about my boy Marco????

Right... Back to the topic Girl. Will Melandri be the 2008 World Champ?
I don't think so. He's got one of the most difficult bikes of the lot, the fast but wild 800cc Ducati that only Stoner has tamed so far. Capirossi failed in setting up that bike, and Melandri will have trouble doing better than Capi. Marco has never been good at tuning bikes - he's fast when everything falls in place nicely, otherwise he lags behind.

He has said he's sure there will be no problems with Stoner, that they'll develop the bike together in the best way... My god, the boy must be dreaming! Developing the bike with Stoner, who just won a world title on it? Ducati will listen to Stoner for 2008, period - and understandably so.

If Melandri takes to the bike and theres every chance he will then theres nothing stopping him from being at the front and very dangerous to everybody.

If he doesn't well a few tenths will put you well down the order nowadays which made Capirossi look bad.

If you could pick one guy who's consistently near the rostrum on a consistently-nearly-competitive package ( barring Phillip Island ), it would have to be Hopper. Could Johnny have been a better choice than Marco? He's become the regular guy behind Stoner/Pedrosa/Rossi towards the end of the season. Moody and Ryder were on about it in the eurosport season review. J4rn0, you make a good point about Marco and development. The form he showed on the 990 Honda was indeed post-Sete, the pace of the bike arguably nothing to do with Marco? The Gresini fettled RCV was widely accepted as an equal if not better a bike than HRC's offereing, but then, the Repsol team weren't turnin' any heads were they? He never really did nothing on the Yamaha except hurt himself.

Why do people keep saying "well if the Duc is so good, where is Capi" or things along that line... Capi sucks...i love the dude....but he's NEVER been THAT good a rider...he's sucked since day one in the big leagues...

Yes...Stoner is better than him.

PS...........Bikergirl............show us your cakes

I would rather say 'why do they say Stoner is not great, see where the Ducati would be without him'. What you say about Capi, detracts from Stoner's merits. Capirossi is an excellent rider and a 3 times world champion, - just getting a bit old, but still quite capable to win GPs - which means that Stoner is a real champ - not only better than Capi, but better than most

Capi IS a great pilot..no doubt...but his "World Championships" came in the 125s in 91/92and once in the 250s in 98....what has he done in the TOP class??? Jack and .....

edit: yes he won 2 in 125 and 1 in 250.

He has won several GPs in the 500cc era, which is enough to say he's a really good rider. He managed to beat Rossi and Biaggi several times both on 500 and 990, and in 2006 he could have won the world title on the Ducati. If Capirossi is a poor rider, then we would have trouble accomodating others in a scale of values which makes any sense

To be fair in his prime years he never had a great bike in the premier class, i can remember him even dropping back down to 250 to win and then back again.

Then in recent years he was developing the Ducati and Stoner i'm sure is very grateful for that because he was able to get on it and do well first time.

Its a bit ironic but has anyone even mentioned that Capirossi is partly the reason why Ducati is so good?

lol how ironic.

you say loris developed the bike for stoner. but then the same people say the bike loris is on he cant ride/couldnt adapt to, thats why he fared so bad this season. bhahhahaha

hypocrisy is rife

I sure did!! .... not only that I reckon he is part of why Stoner did so well this year ..... I've said it before .... not many would have acted as gracious as Capi. did throughout this season ...... with his newbie teammate comming in and dominating....... he could have made it .... for Stoner but that does not appear to be his style .... I reckon that alone would have been worth a boost to Stoner ..
