And he isn’t on the list.

Class.

From crash, his top 5 are:

Ago
Nieto
Doohan
Lorenzo
Rossi
Ago, on the MV Agusta, was like shooting fish in a barrel, if all the other competitors had been on similar machinery I am not sure that he'd have won as often. I am not saying he is not a great rider, I just feel he had such a lopsided unfair advantage much of the time.

No he aint on the list, would look pretty egotistical if he did I guess.
He raced against Lorenzo and Rossi and had them covered, so effectively at least fourth.

If Doohan hadn't injured himself, he would be ahead of both Rossi and MM

These things are very subjective, there is no right or wrong answer, its more so opinion

The same could also have been said of Marquez himself. I think he would have walked the 2020 title, and while more of a struggle, would likely have won the 2021 title also.

The way Marquez was embarrassing the grid at Jerez in 2020 before the second crash, and the way everyone else during the year kept throwing away their chance at the title, makes me agree that he would have walked the 2020 title and been in a good to great position for '21 as well. I guess the flip side though is he would probably still be on a factory Honda now that isn't going anywhere rather than in the factory Ducati team with a decent shot to win the next title or two.

True, but he also won the 8th title, the one Valentino was so keen to match, in his mid 30s with the Japanese factories in the sport on a Yamaha.

I think Ago himself has said that if Hailwood doesn’t leave MV then he wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the run of titles he (Ago) had with MV.

I think all these guys have a certain amount of luck with their timing. Ago with Hailwood leaving, Doohan with Rainey getting injured, Rossi with Doohan getting injured and inheriting his team, Marquez with Stoner retiring etc that has helped them achieve their 5+ titles in quick succession.

I'd definitely place MM above VR all day long. Hoping he can win at least another title, to equal him. But it'd be great to see him surpass VR with 8. I didn't know GA had 8 titles; thought Rossi was the highest with 7. Learned something new today. Having said that, I'm more aligned with riders like Lorenzo, Stoner, and Bagnaia. MM is overly aggressive, but at the same time, more exciting to watch, so I understand his appeal.

Timing is (almost) everything in this life.
It’s always interesting to watch what happens.
There’s always an if element. That’s why we keep watching….
