I think for the sake of the championchip ONLY, the fine would suffice, although they should have fined Depuniet as well as both riders were at fault.

There should be a very clear line in the sand drawn - ANYTHING like this including stoners antics at every other rider on the grid (he seems to think he should have sessions on track by himself) will NOT be tolerated and will be met by severe penalities. At the the same time ALL riders should be made aware that riding slowly on the racing line will also not be tolerated and will also suffer severe penalties.

Finally they should string race direction, in particular Butler up out back of the pit garages and throw torque wrenches at his nuts all day on Monday & see how he likes being put in dangerous situations!

Problem is he doesn't have nuts as if he did he would have made the tough decisions when they were needed to be made and not been party to creating the mess and imbroglio we now have.

On a different note, but related. If they are to 'outlaw' any for of a rider showing disapproval of another's actions it will (IMO) lessen the sport immensely but they do need to be clear on what is acceptable and what is not and advise each and every rider, team manager and the media corp so that all know the line that has been drawn

It won't happen though

Unfortunately it's not the first time his nuts have been on the line. Not that he's ever demonstrated much in the way of bollocks.

Am i the only one who didn't know that Aoyama isn't riding a factory bike?

Simoncelli promises to finish

By Matt Beer

Marco Simoncelli has promised to ride sensibly and finish tomorrow's French Grand Prix after his recent crashes.

The Gresini Honda rider's form has improved dramatically this season, and he was a contender for victory at both Jerez and Estoril, only to crash on each occasion.

Today at Le Mans he came within 0.059 seconds of denying factory Honda man Casey Stoner pole position, but has promised not to throw away a result trying to beat the Australian in the race.

"I got really close to my first ever pole today - 0.059 seconds is hardly anything," said Simoncelli. "Strangely it is the same gap that I missed out on the podium by last year at Estoril.

"In any case I am happy and we are not in bad shape for the race. We have improved from session to session so I am confident. We have improved under braking today but I still don't feel 100 per cent secure.

"My objective tomorrow is to get to the end of the race and bring some important points home. I won't be pushing over the limit to get a result at all costs, I want to manage the race well."

Team boss Fausto Gresini said the squad was extremely keen to see Simoncelli finally get on the podium tomorrow.

"So far it has been a perfect weekend," said Gresini. "Marco and his team, alongside the engineers from HRC, have worked extremely well. They have come up with a good package and so we are extremely confident about Sunday's race.

"He has been strong all weekend and shown that he can be a rider fighting regularly for podiums and even wins. Marco deserves a bike as competitive as this and HRC have laid one on for him. We are all really happy to be working with Marco and we really want a top result for him."

Why not, i guess Repsol Honda doesn't want to lose more points to his satelite bikes, but to give Simoncelli a Factory bike and not to their Japanees rider is a bit unfair i think.

I haven't seen the incident that kicked this whole thing off, but it sounds like de Puniet's hands aren't clean in this instance. A formal warning should be in the cards, as well as Race Direction having a sit-down with the riders and going over this. It happens again and again, it needs to be addressed. As far as Stoner, that's unacceptable. It's one thing to shake your fist or wave or stare or whatever Stoner had been doing previously, but to punch another rider while riding is unacceptable. I don't believe in any sort of race suspension, points deduction, or grid movement, but I think a fine of €5,000 is a joke. Especially considering Biaggi got €3,000 for slapping Melandri in the pits. This action needs to be made an example of, and a fine of €10,000 would have been more appropriate, in my opinion.

Well as I saw it RDp looked saw stoner on his left then moved out of the way and stoner moved back behind Rdp, thing for me is stoner is behind with a clear view was Rdp supposed to keep looking backwards, now I agree people shouldnt be dawdling around on the racing line but he tried and in perfectly good time to move.

But stoner shouldnt have tapped him and deserves his fine nothing more ALL the riders should be talked to about dawdling around.

Anyway did like the fact that Rdp gave him the reverse victory salute

Does the topic not say- Le Mans Race "Spoiler" ? Piss off.

And to my American compatriots, wake up earlier.

Again i call for Butlers resignation.

He just continues to fail in his safety duty. He has done nothing constructive on the issue of cruising on the race line. He has done nothing about riders kicking out, using bikes as weapons and now punching.

Stoner really needs to get a hold of his temper, this is becoming a weekly thing. I cant help but feel Dorna are cashing in on making this sport a soap opera.

lol at race thread 4 pages long already before the 125 start

Stoner did something, that always causes a stir, the "tar and feather party" and the "it's alright for someone else party" have to comment

Stoner should ride slower, that would solve so much, especially hurt feelings

But Squigs, Butler did say it is a contact sport

I think it's called a mouthtrap

For the record I think Stoner's fine is appropriate, but RDP should get off the line to adjust levers. It's a racetrack not an RSL carpark.

Well you'd be the worst person to recommend such a thing Reg. ........ what with your liberal threats to punch Casey out a few years ago

Stoner is an ....., thinks he owns the place. Would love to see him try that on someone like Spies or Simoncelli. He's probably get swatted like a fly.

Shall we just delete the 125 thread then????

Yeah it say's Le Mans Race -singular- main race!! not Le Mans race's'.

Curve's already up and about I see.

FWIW and for perspective.

Remember this incident from Phillip Island Moto2 2010?

The result for the offending rider - a 5000 euro fine.

Sounds and looks like a precedent.

Sorry if i spoiled anyones race. But the amount of conversation in the 125 thread shows the following it has. Just trying to bringing real motorcycle race conversation to a race thread, instead of the constant ... for tat, mine is better than yours BS that every thread this year has turned into. Just trying to introduce and tempt non 125 followers into what is constantly a great category.

I think it would be great to just have one race thread for all 3 races. BS ... for tat to another thread.

MotoGP World Standing 2011 (before this race)

01- Jorge LORENZO 65

02- Dani PEDROSA 61

03- Casey STONER 41

04- Valentino ROSSI 31

05- Nicky HAYDEN 30

06- A. DOVIZIOSO 30

07- H. AOYAMA 28

If indeed Lorenzo isn't able to score a good result, this can be a great chance for Hondas, especially Pedrosa and Stoner.

Agree, and it's refreshing just to talk racing - that's what used to happen but the separately dedicated threads to the classes are because not everyone can watch it live
