LAGUNA SECA GP 2013: RACE (Spoilers)

There will probably always be incidents at the corkscrew as it is one of the favourite places to overtake.

Perhaps if they put a gravel trap there it would ensure everybody stayed on the black stuff?

Rossi & Livvio's coments were interesting. Love a little banter. :)

Lets see.. Yam has 1 engine remaining for the rest of the season. Honda has 3.. = Yam is .......

No, Yamaha has 4 engines with 1 being fresh, Honda has 5 engines with 3 being fresh. I think. Waiting on Krops report. Come on Krop, ya lazy ....... :)

It's all opinions and my rosé tinted Rossi opinion is that 46 was on the racing line , MM was not .

You do realize that Rossi's line led him off track, dont you. That is not the racing line, he was like Krop said, a good 3 feet out where he should have been.

Yamaha has a different engine rotation scheme than Honda. Both ways are valid

and both brands will make it to seasons end.

Rossi pushed Marquez so wide he couldn't even make the corner himself. Rossi went across the dirt as well, which kinda makes it fair game I guess.

They should put more sand there to make it less attractive to riders (albeit more dangerous).

They can't put more sand there and you called it correctly. It would be too dangerous for the riders. They could fall in deep sand or gravel and slide back onto the racing surface. Least anyone think that a rider can cut the corner at will, I promise that there will be a black flag with that rider's number next to it when they get back to the start line. But in an emergency you can use that line and cut the corner.

Now for a deeper question. Did Marquez bait Rossi into defending that corner so that he could use the shortcut? Did the kid (rookie even) think about using that move before the race started? If either or both are true then the kid is truly a scary competitor.

More sand will mean, at minimum, an overshoot will cover the track with crap. So even if the rider doesn't bin it, the crap will endanger following riders.

Maybe some lovely astroturf a la Qatar and some rubbery bollards a la Kyalami (I think that's where they had them??)

The reason I don't like the way it is now is it's sort of half/half. There is enough dirt and a grate to make it dangerous to cut, but not dangerous enough that riders will do anything to avoid it. So they are prepared to brake so late, like Rossi and Marquez, knowing that there is a way out. So far they have got away with it, but it would be just as easy to lose the front and end up face first back on the track at the bottom of the corkscrew.

If they ever make it just a clean tarmac runoff, I'll never watch the race again.

The corkscrew will remain as is on the Laguna Seca track. It is the main attraction of the track.

Believe it or not the riders love racing at Laguna. It's fast, complex, hardly any full throttle, you

mess up one corner and it messes up the next 3, no chance for a breather and some blind spots.

All this and yet the riders love the little track. Go figure.

The spectators take on the track - ..... about the pottys - ..... about the heat -

..... about the shade - then ..... some more about the pottys - then come back

the following year to do it all again

Marquez saw Rossi run wide, so instead of braking and letting him have the turn, he takes the lame way out and cuts the corner. If it were sand there or gravel pit, he'd have conceded the position to Rossi, or he would've cut the turn, dumped the bike through the sand/gravel and spit debris all over the track and probably punted rossi off as he skidded down the hill. It's really a no win situation... Still, Marquez should have conceded, he didn't have the inside line and Rossi was blocking his line. He should be penalized but he won't be so no point arguing that.

You can't 'block the line' by running wide enough to push the other guy off the track. Rossi learned that move from Biaggi.

I haven't been to Laguna Seca but PI would seem no better. I've been every year (except 08?). I don't see the problem. You're there to see motorbikes, not a tennis match.

I agree, the issue is how to do something about it without wrecking the character of the corner. Hence my half serious suggestion of astroturf/wobbly bollards.

The corkscrew is world famous now. They will never change it.

As a matter of fact it will be shown worldwide again on August 18

in the pre race show. It has a reputation now and the world will

accept it.

In WSBK they were penalising riders cutting chicanes regardless of overtaking. One wheel over the curb and instant penalty. Seemed a bit extreme att.

While at Laguna it turned out to be a relatively minor incident, what if Marquez overcooks it and falls, only to be run over by Rossi with no way to avoid him?

While I must admit I find Marquez highly entertaining, considering what has happened both in motogp in the past and this weekend in WSS I believe race direction has a duty of care to the riders, beyond the 'spirit of the racing', to do all it can to keep them reasonably safe. Or to put it another way, to save them from themselves. Marquez himself probably has no fear, but seeing him racing wheelchairs might not be so entertaining.

Then I would like to congratulate Mr. Rossi for creating a first unprecedented history in the world of racing, which is running over and ending the lives of two racers at separate occassions.

How can you gain an advantage if you're already ahead?

You completely missed the point Krop.

Marquez braked impossibly late and ran off the road so that he could outbrake Rossi, that is unfair advantage.

So if for example we have Lorenzo and Pedrosa side by side on the straights to a chicance...

Pedrosa on the outside braked super late, and could not make it for the chicane and ran across the chicane. Pedrosa was already ahead of Lorenzo when they were in the entry of the first chicane...

Can you still say that Pedrosa did not gain an advantage here because he was already ahead?

Krop.

Since your now posting videos could you please find one of another motorcycle rider passing on the outside in the corkscrew........................................................................................................................................im waiting.

Having trouble finding one?

Thought so. Thats because noone passes outside in the corkscrew because there is not legitimate line there
