Hiroshi San isn't happy with the new strict regs on testing, saying that it is rendering the rookies uncompetative.

IMO the cream will always rise to the top and a longer apprenticeship for the rookies is better for motogp, as it was in the early 990 days and with the 500s.

I feel it a little arrogant to expect to come in to the premier class and expect to beat the worlds best immeadiately. Then again arrogance can make a great racer, but somehow with the TC age these rookies have seen others like Jorge, dani and stoner come in and win straight up. I much prefer to see them develop and build their speed, like it was and like it should be.....Maybe dorna has this reg right.....did I really type that!!

I think kropotkin's argument that with the current bikes rider skill is a greater rather than a lesser factor is hard to dismiss, not that I believe that this means that the current formula is a good one as a necessary corollary. It could be that lorenzo, pedrosa and casey are particularly talented, given that they have managed to be somewhat competitive against rossi whether it took them a long or short time to be so. If this is the case, the lack of testing time gives the rookies even less chance in my view.

I seriously doubt that less testing could possibly "help" as you imply in the thread title........I think it's certainly a negative for many of the teams with regard to preparations and potentially a positive thing for those teams who might be struggling to fund their effort. In light of that, I've not heard anyone come out and claim that the testing ban was good for their team or that it somehow added something positive to their competitiveness...................but I could be wrong.

It hurts the entire sport but it hurts the smaller teams more and the new riders also. They need one more test minimum in the fall and not in Sepang maybe PI. Then they need another preseason test somewhere like Laguna where the teams rarely go.

Surely more tests will help the riders and their teams, more than it hurts them,(if it hurts them at all). and Aoyama is defenetly right, but that's the same for all the riders and not only for the rookies, even if the rookies will be more hurt by these new rulls than the other riders.

and to expect that they get more days than what they already had, is a bit too much expectation, if other riders have to have only 6 days of testing.I think if they'r good enough for this serie then they will find out how to ride and setup a bike after a few gp's, and this wont be the reason for not shining in this year.

I don't think the testing rules are really such a problem, but the Honda riders generally just need more time on the bikes. The riders not on Hondas are approximately where you would expect them to be for now at least, but the Honda guys are struggling for a base setup even in the factory team.
