There’s less than 10 minutes remaining from FP4… everyone taking it easy cause both Kawas are on top and then Hoffman… No necessary risks right!

The Jerez test was awesome, like an actual Moto GP qualifying session although it wasn't!
<

Great to see that Valentino Rossi was top and totally blitzed last year's qualifying time by over a second! Colin Edwards also did very well, it looks like Yamaha are very strong and are spot on the pace. That's one sweet BMW that Rossi won, wouldn't mind one myself to sell on eBay. Loved Rossi's celebration...carefully climbing onto the roof of the car.
<

Nicky Hayden seemed to be taking things easily and rather sitting back a little watching everything else go on around him and trying not to get involved as much. Is he just super confident or is it part of his tactics? Dani Pedrosa was also mighty fast finishing 2nd and also beating last year's qualifying time, but still something like 0.7 second off Rossi's time. The Repsol Honda looks shorter too because of it's 'docked' tail, suppose it suites Pedrosa though!
Ilmor GP are looking to possibly have a great season with Bridgestone tyres and pretty good riders. McWilliams is still recovering from his injury late November from Jerez when he fell off, let's hope he'll be fit and up for it come the start of the season.
Was dissapointed that Hopkins couldn't test but we got half an idea how the Suzuki is doing from Vermeulen's times but that test driver was basically nothing.

Can't wait for the Qatar Grand Prix, March 10th!

Hayden probably wasn't willing to push that hard to win a car, feeling like he could risk damaging his shoulder when he wasn't completely cmfortable yet. He is getting stronger, but he probably felt he couldn't really compete with Pedrosa and Rossi so why bother risking it all. I think he will get there soon enough.

Also Ilmor are running Michelins anrn't they?

It's comedy yeah? hayden wasnt going to push to win a car? hayden only pushes to win at Laguna.

A defending champ (who has a chip on his shoulder bout not winning races hence the "numbers dont lie" logo) isnt going to miss a chance to put one over the opposition. Hayboy has been fourth at damn near all the tests this year, (check the previous posts if you dont believe that), so he's just finding his level. He's not the fastest guy out there, or even the fastest Honda guy. Lets keep it real.

Numbers don't lie, whether it be race wins, fastest laps or poles, and unless I'm very mistaken, titles.

The guy with the most of all of the above aint got that logo on his butt.

Pete

I was just saying that he hasn't had a great time recently, he fell a few times at Qatar and says he isn't too comfortable yet. I think that he probably knew that with his set up on the bike and his confidence not as high as it should be, he had no real shot at taking that BMW. It would be foolish to risk crashing to get one over on the others if he knew he couln't ride at that level safely.

All jokes aside do you see what i mean? I am not like bailing him out or making excuses for him and .... like that. Today Nicky couldn't cut it, but from the T.V coverage it looked to me that only Pedrosa and Rossi were willing to go all out for it, because they new they were ready for it.

I agree on Yamaha being very strong, but not on the rest, Hayden was trying very hard and he's simply not as fast as Rossi and Pedrosa yet. Only those 2 were really on the top they were just 1 tenth apart but over half a sec faster than the rest.
Ilmor are on Michelins and they are going to have a mighty embarrasing season if they have the same pace they've showned so far, which is absolutely apalling, 4 or 5 seconds off the pace.

Pedrosa were actually only 0.133 behind Rossi on a lap that started just a few seconds after the flag came out. Guess a lot missed that one.Edwards 0.9 behind...

Hayden was the big surprice there. His race times in FP3 were awful. His last q-tire lap took him up som 4-5 spots compared to what he did on race tires. To make it to 4th in the test was to me very well done.
There were actually quite a few guys longer down in the list that had som interesting race-tire laps, especially Checa. He had a very good pace doning lots of 41's some of them low 41's. Right on pace wiith the fastest.

Come on Tom, none of the Hayden fans took Rossi's crap run of luck as an excuse last season, so why should that be different for for Hayboy?

Mick Doohan kicked everyones ... with one working ankle, Darryl Beattie raced with 5 toes, I could go on about the big guys.... Hayboy is showing his level, end of.

Do you honestly think that a racer who has yet to prove he can win consistantly is going to miss a chance to gain a phsycological advantage?

Pete

I agree pete, that was Haydens level, not good enough is it? But the hayden doing Q laps today was not pushing like the hayden we saw at philip island last year for example.

Pedrosa and Rossi looked comfortable enough to really push for those last few fractions of a second and still be in confident control of their bikes. Hayden didn't get there today. I am not trying to say it isn't his responsibility or anything. But nobody was on terms with those two today.

Fair enough Tom, sorry , but I dont think hayboy is going to be playing with the big boys this year. If he does, fair play to the guy, I'll happily eat my words. But I stick to my opinion, outside laguna, Ive not seen him really do the damage yet. The guy can ride, no question, but I think he has had his 15 mins of fame.

I know this will get the google gang overexcited, but I'd be surprised if Asimo is worrying about him this year, nevermind Vale or anyone else, and as you said in the supers thread, you gotta beat your team mate at all costs.

pete

I think Hayden will get to the top ranks, but i worry that it will be too little too late. If he isn't top four at Qatar he will have issues, because he doesn't have a big speed advantage the he can use to claw back from a slow start to the year. I am not willing to call the top two guys of today the seasons run away pace setters yet, but it is possible.

First off i want to see what honda can come up with before Qatar, and i am anxious for Bridgestone to sort their life out. But time is fast running out and it looks like we could see an almighty season long battle of Rossi and Pedrosa, and i can't wait.

At the end of the day, those few tenths over Asimo would add up over race distance. But I do think he is the Docs biggest challenge this year.

Pete

I don't think Dani will be looking to Nicky either, he has certainly got the jump on him in pre season, Dani will be Focussed totally on beating Rossi, and i think Rossi looks just too damn strong.

To be honest Tom, I'll be very surprised if he wins outside the States this year. I 'm not gonna predict the pace setters from today's results, but from the formbook, Vale is still the guy to beat.

The really big guys don't need a speed advantage to claw back points, they do it by winning races, and systematically psyching out the other guys. The M1 was not the bike that the RCV was when Rossi went to Yamaha, just as the YZR wasn't a championship contender when Rainey wasnt on it.

Hayboy has the biggest factory behind him, the team who wanted the 800 cc ruling behind him, and is the reigning world champ. There are no excuses now.

Get out there win races and show us what you can do, or be remembered as a guy who rode his luck to a title.

It sounds harsh guys, but it's the real deal, The title is Hayboys to lose.

Pete

The 800s are great and already putting in faster lap times than the 990s, so much for slowing them down.

It's close at the top, but good to see Rossi coming back fighting.
