Maybe, maybe not. Powerslide paranoia. When i first came to ps it was full of rossi fans then at the end of 06 there was a massive influx of Hayden fans. Mid way through 07 most haydenettes disappeared but stoner fans joined on mass. During the following years a large percentage of those stoner fan's left. A lot remained but only a small percent compared to the amount that joined in 07. In 08-09 a few more Rossi fans joined as did lorenzo fans in 2010. Now Casey is champ again we are getting another wave of stoner fans.

How many of these through out the years are fans switching their support but with new ID's and how many are new people? who knows.

If you dont believe me have a look through the members list and their joining date. Motogp is full of glory hunters and plastic fans. Real fans go to races unlike 90% of powerslide members.

Some live in countries that don't have races. Some are too poor to afford the races. You have no idea what situation people are in.

I guess you are a 'real' fan, not like someone who might have only been enjoying motorsport for a year or two. They have no credibility whatsoever...

(Where've they hidden the 'spankie' emoticon?)

True but there are many who do live in countrys that have races. take barrymachine for example. He once said he doesn't go to races because of the traffic

many proclaim to have been fans for 30-40 years but never been to a race. These people moan and groanabout Dorna and the way the races are going due to economic times ect but dont part with a penny for there sport.

There is a ...... football club down the road from me called Pompey. This club is on the verge of being liquidated and oh how the "so called" fans are crying and finger pointing. Fact is most didn't pay and go to see there club play and this is the result.

Very few Aussie fans here have ever gone to PI to see a race yet they would cry if it were dropped. Oh its too far they say. Bollocks , ive flown the other side of the world to see a race twice. I flew to spain to watch a race then flew straight back home.

Some talk, some do. There is always an excuse if you want one !

What do you want? A medal, or a chest to pin it on??

Very true.

I´ve been a fan for many years but will not go to again to a GP race in Jerez, Valencia, or Montmelo. And it is due to the ...... drunk madness. Don´t get me wrong, it´s great for those who enjoy it, but not me. I suspect BarryM is in the same category as I am. Take Motegi for example, to which i´ve been to 3 times. Now that is full of respectful orderly Japanese that are there to see races, machinery and race queens and brollys. It is the only place i´ve been to where anyone can buy a pit pass, and not the VIP expensive kind, but an additional 70 $ that gets you everywhere.

That a fan doesn´t go to a GP race does not make them less of a fan than you Rog.

Many "fans" that go to Jerez care less about the actual race and more about the all night booze/RPM fest. Many don´t make it to the race on Sunday. In my eyes, not a true motorsport fans.

Wow, just back from a little away to Kuala Lumpur and this thread has popped up like so many magic mushrooms (which we Canadians enjoy with our hash brownies!). Liking the tangential nature of this thread but just absorbed way too much to comment on all of it! My bits:

Electronics don't illegitimise MGP - tis the way of the future, get over it. That said electronics now save riders lives 'cause manufacturers don't spend on smoothing MGP bike's engines power delivery they let the programmers do it. Would I prefer no 'lectric aids? Yes but I'm 50 and prefer classic F1 races to current ones!

Take away fuel limits and the 81mm bore, let other tyre manufacturers in, leave everything else alone and wait five years... Let's see how that recipe works!!

Bollocks , ive flown the other side of the world to see a race twice.

Weren't you just pissed and missed all the action?

WTF do you see at the event? blurred bikes going past your tiny part of the track ........
<

and you probably queued up in traffic for hours. Stuff that TV coverage is amazing these days and I can wheel a bike into the TV room and pretend I am in the race!!

"Oh the smell and sound you proclaim!!" ....... stuff that!! I can just go to grannies medicine cupboard and get out the castor oil and pour it down the exhaust of my bike and start it up and rev. the Roger out of it whilst I'm pretending to be Casey!

Now STFU all of you and get rid of that Chinese "knockoff" ..........

not sure if the chinese one or the original is wackier there !!

Pretty spot on Bat.

Years ago I learned that going to the races meant ........ humans lived inside the paddock at the races

You turned up drove into the pits, raced, packed up, then went home. Next weekend you socialized with folk who knew nothing about bike racing ..... didn't even know you rode ...... or did .... but it didn't matter you were there to socialize.

At the races you were there to race ........ nothing else ......... just each race was the most important thing ever .

The oldest story. Paradise lost, perhaps roger? I guess Milton was an englishman.

Fact is mike at that time even with the SNP's they were not competing with the "work on any track" Bridgestone. Many contracts were up inc Rossi's and they were giving no reason for a team to re-sign with them. Personally i think Ducati saying they would go with Michelin was just posturing and mind games. The big H were pissed off with Michelin to the extent Michelin let Pedrosa out with a year or so left on his contract. Everyone knew Michelin were dropping the ball and in high stakes sport like this thats only going to end one way.

You might, perhaps oddly, find yourself in agreement with casey stoner, who was notably unimpressed with the 2006 non-sns michelins.

It is all speculation, but I rather thought honda were fairly neutral on the michelin thing having perhaps a longer view, and dani's defection was puig/repsol driven.

I don't attribute valentino's pre 2007 championships to sns tyres btw, I always took j4rno's and babelfish's point that the major contenders all had them, notwithstanding the seeming catch 22 element, in that to be a major contender you had to have sns tyres.

I continue to object to complaints about stoner having a tyre advantage in 2007 though. If he did, tough.

Agree and i would also add that riders like Nakano and stoner are hugely responsible for Bridgstone success not the other way around.

Ummm selective edit there mike.

Absolutely. The forum does seem to have been variously a rossi is awesome, stoner is awesome, and more briefly and less stridently perhaps even a nicky is awesome forum, though. I think to find fault with one period and find others acceptable is also selective. The possibility even exists that all 3 riders are or were somewhat awesome at various times, valentino obviously for by far the longest.

Well one thing that always interested me was how many stoner fans that registered in mid 2007 were very familier and out spoken about the forums Rossi vs Hayden 2006 era. strange dont you think as most hayden fans had gone by then just as the powerslide stoner fandom boomed. Which was my point ,not whether it was considered "acceptable".
