Indy 2013, last one

I've been the last 2 years, kind of doubt I'll go this year. It must be said the way the traffic flows out of this event is incredible. No traffic jams anywhere.

Racing is seriously dull at Indy though, I don't think we saw more than a handful of overtakes.

I'm going

Flying into Oakland Thursday afternoon and flying out Monday Afternoon.

Staying in Marina Del Ray

In that case you know what this whore needs ;)

Put me down for one at Guna should they be available. ;)

I've been every year Friday through raceday and its the weekend i most look forward to all year long.  My dad goes each year and it will be a real disappointment for me if the race goes away.  I understand that people dont like the layout and the riders don't like the surface but selfishly its the best time i have all year.

Surely there are better east coast venues.

Not having been there (or likely to, now), I won't miss it. It sucks for you over the pond, but as a TV race, it leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, I am down with the whole 'home of racing' thing and from what people say, its a heck of a venue. It would have been second on my list of US tracks to visit. Austin didn't make the cut at all.

I would have thought they could have dropped Qatar before dropping Indy. That is a .... race in a .... country. It has nothing whatsoever going for it - there is no atmosphere, the track and weather are dodgy and nobody goes to the race.

The Qatar sanctioning fee pays for all of the flyaway travel for the rest of the year. Qatar is not going anywhere.

I really debated going last year, but ended at Daytona instead. The track sucks, but there's a couple of things which interested me. Firstly, there's obviously the history element. Secondly, according to some well informed members, it's just the best run US race. Close to the city for a bit of fun in the evening and all that.

Not to mention...the beach accommodations.

I'll be there - first MotoGP race I have ever been to so im pretty excited... I could care less what the track is like as long as I get to see MotoGP in action for the first time in the 5 years ive  been watching

Disagree, I think it is a great circuit that has always tended to produce great racing. In spite of the low attendances, as BG points out the Sheikh's put up a tidy sum for the privilege of staging the curtain raiser.

If you ignore the sand, the weather, the artificial lighting, the greasy track, the complete lack of atmosphere, the crap politics of Qatar and the semi-slavery used to build it,  yeah, a great track...

And the lack of beer..... Or is Beer ok there ?

[Erratum: Lacking the cojones to defend his rant, mtorn has instead elected to delete them under the guise of "drunken .....".

I'm leaving them there to demonstrate what "....." alcohol unmasks in that individual]
