All professional sports persons are sociopaths. It's the only way you can maintain the intensity.

true to an extent, but who in their right mind would put bradl, edwards, pedrosa, hayden etc. in the same category as marquez/sofuoglu?

i'm not convinced that only the most ...... up individuals can succeed, it just makes it easier to beat the competition if you've got no respect for them

even the nicest athletes choose to be on the other side of the world when their first child is born.

Yes, or all the successful ones anyway. You only have to listen to recent statements by/revelations about lance armstrong, particularly what he did to other people rather than his  own performance enhancement; having tesicular cancer with brain metastases might be rather perspective altering though.

maybe sad for the wives at home, but shouldn't even be mentioned in the same context as what murderous mark does more often than not.

i think this "he doesn't even seem aware of other riders" is a very bad excuse.its actually the worst thing that can be said IMO

and get to the front as quickly as possible, irrespective of the consequences.  He does not have the knowledge of an older, experienced MotoGP rider, he hopefully will and has to learn to be more patient

out of the two i choose the sociophobe. go dani, win it and loosen the hell up already.

what i find ..lets say interesting..is how quick everybody forgets how dangerous somebody is as soon as he shows some speed. i call it the iannone syndrom.and he's not even italian/funny in the least bit!

i can't imagine anything worse than the thought of the next 5 years of gp racing being dominated by marquez.except maybe sofuoglu degrading wss even more

I agree 100%

This is an awesome thread.

MM inspires awesomeness.

You just have to give in to the Mark side.  :starwars:

I read this and had just had to smile.

Wouldn't it be ace if both Lowes twins won their respective classes?

That could be an excellent double bet.

Mmm might be worth a tenner ;)

Oh ......... Just ......... This sociopath theme is another of Krop's no-evidence tropes. I know several professional athletes and racers. Yes, they get single minded and super focussed on race day. But then, I don't like distractions in the middle of work. The Lance thing is an extreme example that proves zilch. In any case, conduct on the track or in the paddock is no indication of the state of one's personal interaction. Get me a correlation and I'll believe it.

Rubbish. Got data on that? Or did you just make it up?

Care to explain how an athlete differs from anyone else at the steep bit of their career trajectory? Or are they all sociopaths, too?

(now waiting for the trite 'yes' )

This trope is just another way we get fed this idea that athletes are a breed apart.

As you should know I don't care much about the riders' personalities particularly off track, and am happy to judge them on their actions on track. I have said as long as anyone has on here that  marquez is careless and reckless and has gotten a free pass from the authorities after being so. My disagreement with some is that he may actually just be really fast as well as having always ridden for the best teams rather than a cheat equipment-wise.

Whatever you think of their personalities I don't think stoner or rossi would do some of the things he has done; I think stoner was overambitious rather than reckless or careless prior to 2007. Lorenzo was pretty wild in the lower classes though but is not so now .

Completely agree, Michaelm.

All is forgiven and forgotten because he's fast...so who are the enablers of this supposed sociopathy?

Also agree with your point concerning his speed vs equipment advantages. His talent is plain to see. Obviously some think the same organisations that spend Millions to compete and hire the best crews they can, just randomly pick riders from an even talent pool.

I think marquez is awesome for providing a common favorite villlain to all boners/boppers/lollos and pedrophiles

I just found this amazing photo  :)
