Pardon me fellow enthusiasts, if the topic has been discussed recently as I am new to the site. Perhaps someone can share insight into exactly "why" Honda continues to place Dani Pedrosa on one of the Premier Class top 4 bikes? Is it a Repsol connection?

I know he signed a contract for this year, but the lackluster performance that is synonymous with # 26 and races missed from the "couldn't have been a mystery arm pump surgery" is painful to watch. I was astonished to see Honda put Aoyama on his bike, Aoyama? After yesterdays' performance at Silverstone, Honda should be looking towards another Dani, Danilo Petrucci to name one, would be a rider who would ride the bike with vigor.

What is even more amazing about the performance from Marquez over the past 2.75 years, is the fact that he rides all alone without any help from his teammate. For those of us who have watched Marc progress into the phenom he has become, years like 2015 would be more palatable if given a teammate who could steal points away from Yamaha when he has an off day.

It's pretty sad to see the #26 languishing in 4th-7th place. He had his chance after Nicky got the boot and when Marc was a rookie. Perhaps it was true, the fear that Pedrosa lacked the ability to "will" the bike through a corner, say like Marc or Vale. Who knows what would have happened to Honda/Repsol if Marc hadn't come along.

After watching yesterdays' performance by all of the riders, and from having seen them in person, MotoGP truly is the best among the best.

Cheers!

It has been discussed to death on here and I think the summary was:

Honda know Dani is now only a number 2 rider, but he is a good rider. Probably the best No2 rider/Team player the sport has ever seen. They have MM up the front most of the time so as long as Dani podiums or brings in constructor points then why rock the boat with someone else?

Dani also has many years experience at this level, not a common commodity.

Good topic and observations, please feel free to roam around the forum. Welcome.

Pedro is at HRC because he is a good rider (most all of them are and I think many could easily replace him, though the lack of parity for other machines has tricked many into believing he is better than he really is) and because he had the political connections to stay at Honda. He was almost booted to make way for Marquez, but Stoner's retirement artificially extended his tenure on a factory RCV.

I would hazard a guess, depending on how Tito fares on Scotty's ride, Dani is keeping that seat warm for either Maverick or Rins. However, as Colin is so quick to remind us, that machine is designed around midgets, a philosophy that screwed Nicky and one which has endured since the risible Pedrocycle. So who knows. Perhaps they'll groom Livio Loi as an honorary Spaniard.

Serous question. Who can replace Dani today that would routinely best him on that bike? Dani is a better rider than he's given credit for imo. He's also disastrously fragile. If you're confident in your assertion, attempt to sell us a replacement. Who do you have in mind? And please, for the love of god, don't say Cal.

HRC have been experimenting. Cal, Scott, Bradl and several others. All generally failures.

Danilo Petrucci.

Political connections....
3 World Championships look pretty good on one's CV.
While we're speculating; Nicky was foisted on Repsol Honda just for the Seppo market. Why the .... would you hire an AMA champ except for marketing. Joke.
3 WCs DP. How many NH *wins*? Ever.

Hahaha, you beat me to it.

No more to the point, think a picture of Nicky riding around Valencia with a flag would have sufficed.

Excellent 22. To be fair to Dr Knows inquiry, Can you also kindly post the picture where Pedrosa won the MotoGP World Championship.

damn it.
Was hoping for less seppo love and more Pedro hate.

Put the tallest guy on the grid on bike designed for the smallest? What could possibly go wrong? ...., he makes vale look short.

Except for the fact that Baz is about 3" taller!! Danilo is listed at (180cm) 5'11" (an inch shorter than Rossi - 182cm)... Baz is 6'2" (188cm).

BTW talking about guys that get no press... Baz has quietly done very well indeed on a truly .... bike and team. An impressive year for a guy who conventional wisdom would say is too ....... big for MGP. Hope he sticks around.

Padrosa is a great rider , a winner , and a great competitor. I personally feel his lack of success in GP is his pysical stature - he's just to small for the bigger bikes. Lol

I agree dduc, but I would not only blame his physical stature, but perhaps his mentality post 2008. He came into MotoGP with high hopes and confidence, fueled in part by his mentor. But I think things changed between 07-10. Then when Stoner (an equally small human) spanked him on his bike, Pedrosa has never been the same. He was headed out for Marquez, but Casey's retirement extended artificially his HRC tenure I think.
