Honda Admit getting it wrong

Honda have admitted they were not ambitious enough in their performance targets for 2007. The world championship-winning manufacturer have struggled since MotoGP's switch from 990cc to 800cc bikes, prompting Honda HRC chief Satoru Horiike to admit they are lacking power.

"We must recognise that we made a mistake when we set out targets - our bike needs a more powerful engine," he told Motosprint magazine.

"The level we set ourselves for the first year of 800cc was not right. We thought that the 800cc bikes would take longer to be faster than the 990s, but they did it straight away.

"Our bike is not at the level it should be at this point in the season. Our top speed is improving, but it is not enough."

Defending champion Nicky Hayden has suffered a miserable start to the season on the Repsol Honda, and team-mate Dani Pedrosa is also struggling.

Ducati have positioned themselves as the dominant force so far thanks to enormous straight-line speed, while Yamaha kingpin Valentino Rossi also finds himself in title contention.

Not sure I agree, Armstrong's pretty fast. He's only won about the same titles as Rossi. Hey, that's an idea, maybe if Rossi was on this years Honda he could win the Tour de France.

really appreciated

well, if the honda factory knows they made a mistake, they should come up with a solution too

like dr. Phil always says: you can't change what you don't aknowledge

OMG, they admitted they got it wrong. BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I could tell by the number of race wins they have so far---0.
<

I thought their incompetence was a foregone conclusion. The world champ doesn't fit on their bike. The RC212V has no pace, and it can't turn b/c the front end doesn't work. Hayden sucks, Melandri sucks, Pedrosa is below par, Nakano and Checa are back markers---I'm so glad I know why now. lol. European sports are hilarious--everyone always wasting time falling on the sword when they should be looking forward.

Why did they waste the press' time with this release!

(sorry, I couldn't resist)

i was said honda had already built there 800 bike long before the change over had been announced, imfact it was said honda pushed the change because they thought they would have the advantage because of this.
mabe they built it to early and technology had moved on since

quite ironic.

Hi Lex

I think you're being a bit harsh. It takes alot of balls for a company to admit they were wrong. Most people never admit it much less a company. This revelation gained some respect from me.

wow Honda admitting what everyone else already knew. Someone at the Honda worldheadquarters is having the smack down laid on their candy ...!

WTF does that mean?
Can we get IsraeliRacer in to translate this into English please.

If Honda win in France, I will consider their press release as a success, and I will concede you were right. If they don't win in France, I expect another apology from them and from you

You must have missed the "if I was a girl"-part

.

That is the easiest excuse and im calling .........They were 1/2 of 1mph slower than the Ducati in Shanghai. That does not equate to 14 seconds behind the leader. They have geometry problems and HP will not solve that. The Yamaha is way slower than the Honda and they are finishing better.Honda has not got the handle on the suspension YET,but im confident they will.
