Hi Locks, First of all, thanks for the invite. I'm game.

Second you say: "this isn't the first time "WE'VE" ben accused of being anti-american...."

Hey locks, I wouldn’t include yourself in being "anti-American”, but I haven't seen people exactly jumping to respond when someone has voiced this sentiment. Here is a quote from the thread I got all jumped on by some for saying I was “harsh”, “scathing”, lacked “respect”, and not showing a spirit of “welcome.” Do you remember that thread? Now I got a grip of responses for agreeing with a guy that said “silly” then a play of words using “lousy”. Sounds mild but I got many chastisements. Now how many responses do you think the following guy got? This is what he said:

QUOTE(sb248 @ Oct 30 2006, 11:34 AM)

" its just the american way of celibrating ..... me right off, so over the top and loud, i hate to go about vale but at least he comes up with sommething original when he wins something,
i vote valentino rossi N.O. 1"

What is the number of responses Locks? Now I ask you. Do you think Americans notice this? Lets put that same quote and just change one word below:

"its just the “ITALIAN/BRITISH/IRISH/FRENCH/GERMAN (INSERT YOUR COUNTRY HERE)” way of celibrating ..... me right off, so over the top and loud, i hate to go about vale but at least he comes up with sommething original when he wins something,
i vote valentino rossi N.O. 1"

Now does that sound anti-“your country”? I would have expected a response saying something at least along the lines of the retorts that were given to me, but there was no such response. Things like this are noticed, and this is not the only post I have seen some that took a shot at the new champ's nationality. I even saw an insidious poll that took a shot and ridiculed and mocked that the “American had thanked God” and characterized it as an absurd American obsession. (This was wisely deleted). But when quotes like the above go unabated; it’s perceived and leads a few to believe there is some anti-Americanism on this site as the new member Mark B tried to make some relevance to it. But I realize that it’s just a few fools. But I did expect the “civility, respect, and welcoming party” to at least say something to sb248, but apparently, me disagreeing with somebody over who “deserved” to be champ was more menacing and sinister.

I laugh about it now, but I can’t help but think this is a bit hypocritical. What do you think buddy roger and locks? (anybody else feel free to chime in).

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MarkB @ Nov 7 2006, 10:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I wonder how much anti-Hayden feeling is thinly disguised "anti-America" feeling....???

also, many racers have tried and failed to beat Rossi over the years. And to some extent Rossi has gotten to each and every one of them, in some "psychological" way. Sometimes, its direct - as in Biaggi; and sometimes its via his imense popularity, and Rossi loving media. Thats pretty tough to race against, I think Gibbers felt this the most.

Hayden handled the pressure of "Rossi" better than anyone. Plus the kid has got character, humility, and guts......

What pressure???
<

The thing is Rossi actually likes Hayden, it would be a different sort of pressure, that other riders could not handle, if Rossi disliked Hayden.

Thats the difference my friend. All Hayden had to do was stay on the bike, be consistently near the top and try not to upset Rossi.

There was no pressure from Rossi directed towards Hayden, if there was it may have been a different story.

The pressure was on Rossi all season not Hayden.

i dont think our resident american moderator frosty would say there's a lot of anti-american sentiment on this site at all.. nor would i think ooost (he's american too) who has been one of the longest serving members would say that too.

if you are offended by anything please read the rules:

If you see something that you feel is offensive – then please use the “report

to review the post.

the moderators of this site cannot read every single post that is put on here and would welcome your feed back on any topic

Count the number of "moderators" that responded on that thread. Do you think that post went un-noticed? Come on.

Thanks for the offer, but I will leave that to the "moderators" like the one that posted #44 of that thread (just two posts after it had been quoted in post #42). (see thread: Who deserved to be champion?)

You're not paying attention again, I didn't say there is "a lot of anti-american sentiment". Please go back and read the series of posts. Mark B was wondering if there was some veiled anti-americanism by making reference to "anti-hayden" posts. I was responding to locks and roger about it being relevant, since they made a remark about this.

so no, I didn't say "a lot" actually I said quiet the contrary, I said a "few" fools.

what you make take that as... and i'll be clear just so there's no way you can mis-construe it... is that its damn late here and i'm not bothered whether i put a different word to what you used ok. thanks

Another paranoid donught eater???!!! wtf? I go fix some supper and I come back to this??? wow I feel offended....ok i don't
<
I"m from the mean streets of liverpool, your newcy-t-shirt wearing ways do not affect me.......probably from Durham anyway....
<

Er anyway. I never realized how anti-american my own countrymen were until I came to live in the US, and then got bombasted with anti-US crap every time I come home. MotoGP fans are no different.....

Personally, I HATE nationalism. These are remarkable individuals, with great skill. The fact that one is Spanish, one is Italian etc, really means nothing. Sure, National soccer teams embody the Nationality they represent - but individuals???

I would support Hayden if he was from any country - even Scotland. He as an individual represents dignity, pride, hard-work, family-values, committment....... - every "good" word the dictionary has....he just happens to be American. But to "many" people, THAT is all that matters....

I'm a mod on this site. I try to keep up with all the posts, and if somthing's out of line I like to think I deal with it appropriately. I don't belive I show any bias, and I've definately got nothing against Americans. Some of the best members on this site hail from the U S of A, in my humble opinion. I did get very pissed off when I saw anti-American statements that were offending people. (It's easy to say it's just a laugh when you're not the one being laughed at). And I did comment.
I can't speak for all the moderators but I'm proud of what I do here, and when I read statements that appear to criticize the mod team, stuff like "the civility, respect and welcoming party brigade" I'm thinking "Ouch". But, hey. Everyone's entitilted to their opinions, and if someone wants to pour .... on us and what we do, they have the right to do that. Thank God for free speech, right?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (richo @ Nov 8 2006, 02:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I did get very pissed off when I saw anti-American statements that were offending people.

yeah - me too

leave the 'paranoid trigger happy doughnut munching cowboys' alone.

U-S-A..........U-S-A...........U-S-A

SERIOUSLY - I hope we can still have a bit of friendly banter among us regardless if it's........Rossi (the God) -v- Hayden (the Caretaker)
<
....
Pedrosa -v- The World.........Honda -v- Yamaha........UK -v- USA........... etc etc

if I can't give Jumkie a verbal 'poke in the ribs' every now and again I might as well go get my coat.

I'd just like to reiterate that if you feel a post is offensive, then use the report button - do not add fuel to the fire.

This will then be sent to the moderating team, where by it will be discussed and actioned. We cant see every post on the site, and what someone deem's offensive doent mean that everyone thinks it's offensive.

It looks like this incase theres any confussion:

ok jumkie my friend. firstly im not anti american. secondly, you said you were sure the member i defended buy calling you harsh was thick skinned (paraphasing) mabe you should be a little more thick skinned ! i cant believe your still going on about that.
i enjoy debating all things motogp with you and you do make some valid points (aventualy).
you do make me laugh sometimes and im guilty of winding you up a bit,but it's becoming obvious it's pissing people off on the forum, that was never my intention and im sure it wasn't yours.
thats try and keep this all light hearted as where all passionate about our sport and will never agree on all points.
should i ever say something that you find offensive i invite you to PM me rather than change the direction of a thread to point score. i say this with the up most respect. roger

i remember the ' thanking god............ blerghhhh ' thread and i responded to that - saying 'yeah' it does my head in BUT that's nothing to do him nationality or religion - i'm just a miserable agnostic.

perhaps i missed some dodgy replies but i was surprised when the MODS deleted it - i thought the thread may have been taken out of context but hey-ho.
