Hi Locks, First of all, thanks for the invite. I'm game.
Second you say: "this isn't the first time "WE'VE" ben accused of being anti-american...."
Hey locks, I wouldn’t include yourself in being "anti-American”, but I haven't seen people exactly jumping to respond when someone has voiced this sentiment. Here is a quote from the thread I got all jumped on by some for saying I was “harsh”, “scathing”, lacked “respect”, and not showing a spirit of “welcome.” Do you remember that thread? Now I got a grip of responses for agreeing with a guy that said “silly” then a play of words using “lousy”. Sounds mild but I got many chastisements. Now how many responses do you think the following guy got? This is what he said:
QUOTE(sb248 @ Oct 30 2006, 11:34 AM)
" its just the american way of celibrating ..... me right off, so over the top and loud, i hate to go about vale but at least he comes up with sommething original when he wins something,
i vote valentino rossi N.O. 1"
What is the number of responses Locks? Now I ask you. Do you think Americans notice this? Lets put that same quote and just change one word below:
"its just the “ITALIAN/BRITISH/IRISH/FRENCH/GERMAN (INSERT YOUR COUNTRY HERE)” way of celibrating ..... me right off, so over the top and loud, i hate to go about vale but at least he comes up with sommething original when he wins something,
i vote valentino rossi N.O. 1"
Now does that sound anti-“your country”? I would have expected a response saying something at least along the lines of the retorts that were given to me, but there was no such response. Things like this are noticed, and this is not the only post I have seen some that took a shot at the new champ's nationality. I even saw an insidious poll that took a shot and ridiculed and mocked that the “American had thanked God” and characterized it as an absurd American obsession. (This was wisely deleted). But when quotes like the above go unabated; it’s perceived and leads a few to believe there is some anti-Americanism on this site as the new member Mark B tried to make some relevance to it. But I realize that it’s just a few fools. But I did expect the “civility, respect, and welcoming party” to at least say something to sb248, but apparently, me disagreeing with somebody over who “deserved” to be champ was more menacing and sinister.
I laugh about it now, but I can’t help but think this is a bit hypocritical. What do you think buddy roger and locks? (anybody else feel free to chime in).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MarkB @ Nov 7 2006, 10:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I wonder how much anti-Hayden feeling is thinly disguised "anti-America" feeling....???
also, many racers have tried and failed to beat Rossi over the years. And to some extent Rossi has gotten to each and every one of them, in some "psychological" way. Sometimes, its direct - as in Biaggi; and sometimes its via his imense popularity, and Rossi loving media. Thats pretty tough to race against, I think Gibbers felt this the most.
Hayden handled the pressure of "Rossi" better than anyone. Plus the kid has got character, humility, and guts......
