Hayden calls for rider aid limits

Former MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden believes that the use of electronic rider aids should be curbed in the premier category for the good of the sport.

The factory Ducati rider, who is in the middle of his seventh Moto GP season, says that while he accepts the championship must embrace technological advances, he wishes there was a way to stop traction control from having such an overbearing influence on a riders' throttle input.

Asked if he would like to see the technology banned, Hayden replied: "That's easy to say, but I think it is getting too much ,you know.

"Like I say, fully leaned over, in the rain at Donington and you go wide open [on the throttle], I mean that's not exactly real racing.

"But that's the future and the world we live in now as far as technology is concerned and stuff, but I wish they could put some kind of cap on it or something because it is just taking over."

Hayden added that while he did not consider traction control to impact on the pecking order, he did think that it had removed some of the challenge of riding a MotoGP machine.

"I don't want to say that [it takes away the importance of the rider] because I still believe the same, fast, guys would be winning but I think it would be more challenging as far as riding the motorcycle," he said. "The feel, the moving, the throttle control and the technique.

"It makes it easier for the 250 and 125 guys to come in," he added. "Believe me, without traction control it takes a lot more time and a lot more... it was a learning process.

"Now, if anything, you have to forget what you already know and re-programme your brain to do that."

pffffft sounds like more excuses for why noobies horhey, dovi are beating someone whos been in the game for 6 years

'Here Here!'
Best thing hes come out with since abusing pedrobot in the gravel trap at estoril 06!!

990's, minimal TC and open tyre war between Michti, BS and Dunlop.
Farcking bring it on, Nicky for President (Dorna-of course??!!)

Pinky do you try this hard to be a ........ or does it justr come that naturally for you? I mean really, why you have to rip on Hayden as much as you do is nuts. We all rip on some riders on occasion but you act like you caught him getting your mom in the wash room from behind or something.

Not much point here Rocko....Pinky is.....well......very special......you know......

This is why the brothers Gibb penned him his own tune....Nah! I won't post it again

I used to believe in eliminating electronics, but I'm beginning to realize it's not necessary. If the riders had better power delivery, the racing would be better. Rev limiting and ditching the fuel rules would be a good way to go, imo.

Of course they could always go back to the 990s and gas those things up with 24L. If Dorna are worried about power, they can rev limit.

The 990s were nice because some corners required a nice smooth inline riding style and some corners required riders to bend it in late on the brakes. In the 990 days riders could take risks and get a little messy with their lines, the power of the engine allowed them to keep touch.

If the 990s return, I really think it will go back to 2006 style. Everyone filing around for 5 or 10 laps just clicking off the miles and slowly pulling clear of the midpack. Then without warning somebody makes a move and all hell breaks loose.

Damn, that was motorcycle racing.

I am the first one to say that I can be abrasive and give people a hard time but you can't do it constantly. Even I can't keep kickin Dani under the bus cause the dude has talent just a ...... personality and an ....... for a manager. Hayden has a work ethic second to none and wants to win just as bad. It is amazing how he can't recongnise the fact he is a world champion that had to work to get there. You just don't show up and get the trophy. I have toned things down a bit but I guess some people just can't do that when it gets old. Well for the most us I think we all understand that these dudes are at a level where it is just the top and appriciate what they do for our enjoyment.

Finally someone with weight from inside spoke it out… Thanks Hayden!
