A dirty track with uneven repaving in light rain. Quali under the circumstances mean little to nothing. The better riders are extra circumspect, preferring to take needed risk in the actual race. Everybody is wary of turn 13.

Miller on a year old Ducati and only his second race on that bike...

Not to be a ..... But it wasn't a race. I got the distinct feeling that most riders were being tentative because of track conditions. How many times have we seen some hot jr rider take a poll and end up in 4th at the end of the race?

I completely understand why the top riders didnt take the risk....Miller may not be in contention for the title at the moment on the Pramac machine, but he is showing what is possible on that bike if you can adapt to it and find its limits....

Miller should get at the least the same treatment from Duc that Petrux does, and maybe even get a shot at Lorenzo's seat when he leaves it....Young and hungry is sometimes a better combination than overpaid and paranoid.... ;)

Miller is a hero for that pole...

You sure? The cameras all missed the lap in the coverage I get. They were too busy following you know who on his cool down lap. Ah you gotta love MotoGP, they turned off his transponders. Jackwho on pole, commentators were like huh? .... yeah I love this ..... Race prediction 1. Jackwho?, 2. Doviwho?

It is a well known truism that just because you are paranoid it doesn't mean everyone isn't after you, quite applicable to Lorenzo's late tenure as a Yamaha factory rider imo.

I tend to agree Jack's riding style is more suited to the Ducati than Lorenzo's, but this is likely to be true of other elite riders as well, possibly Zarco, very likely Vinales, and rather definitely Rossi.

I am not as strong a Lorenzo partisan as I once was after Valencia 2017, but the fact that it looks very much as though he has repeated Rossi's error in signing for Ducati doesn't mean that Rossi's own Ducati adventure somehow didn't happen, or change that in the opinion of many including me as the winner of the last 3 riders' titles on a Yamaha Lorenzo was treated badly by Yamaha, more than likely with the motive of appeasing Rossi.

Good points.

Jack, do not change (love the apology)

The start to the presser is, well a sign that he that he still has the humour

Are you saying Zarco should be getting the factory Yam ride?
All seats on the Yamaha factory team are taken...so not a realistic option anymore...besides he will get a factory ride, and the best option for his riding style besides the yamaha would be Suzuki....or maybe KTM (if they dont resign either or both of their current riders)

Agreed, but JLos difficulties at Yamaha may not have been all his teammate's fault either...despite what someone people believe on here...

Rossi failed at Ducati....no question about that....no matter if it was a different model than Jlo's either way the Rossi venture was a failure....

Remember Yamaha did try to re-hire JLo at the start of 2016, and he decided to go to Ducati....Yamaha wanted to keep him, and they needed to keep Rossi, as they do now....the sponsors' money has to keep flowing into the team....some on here might forget that the Rossi Ducati years were a very lean time for Yamaha...and I am sure Yamaha never wants to go back to that again just for the sake of the a petulant 3 time non sponsor appealing champion vs keeping the 4 time Yamaha champion and king of sponsorship money trucks....not a hard choice to make for Lin J i imagine....

Back on topic...I hope we have decent weather for the race and Miller can stay with the MM, Dani, Dovi and the Factory Yamahas....fingers crossed for the Aussie to get a good start and to fight for a top 5 finish....

Factory Yamaha problems this year are the same. I can't believe anyone can stop Marquez, he is looking from another universe.

..

So what happens when Rossi retires? Are you saying Yamaha will run out of sponsors and money?

Yamaha had a lean 2011/12 because when Rossi left, so did their Italian title sponsor. Their current title sponsor is Spanish and I doubt they'd jump ship just because Rossi retires.

No, i am saying JLo doesn't attract sponsors like Rossi....

Movistar still has a Spanish star in the Yamaha team....and when the deal runs out for Movistar at the end of the 2019 season....who knows what will happen...

Rossi and his organization seem to have a good relationship with Sky...so they could come up to support Yamaha in 2020, in preparation for Rossi's retirement.... what I think will be the take over of the Yamaha factory team will become the VR46 Yamaha factory team....sponsored by Sky, Movistar, Fiat and or others...

If ....... keeps this up, he’s definitely going to be in contention for the second factory seat. Or at the very least, Petrucci’s factory machine at Pramac when the latter leaves after 2018.

I strongly believe and have said often that Rossi was the best available rider for the seat when he went back to the Yamaha factory team in 2013. Perhaps Dovi was under-rated including by me at the time, but his main competition iirc was Pol Espargaro, and choosing Rossi over him was a no-brainer on any assessment.

That his participation is "good for the sport" or that he should be favored because he is attractive to sponsors is exactly what many on here disapprove of, whether or not it is the way of the world as many who advance the first 2 arguments also argue. If Rossi wins a 10th title on merit as he looked like doing for most of the 2015 season then that is unequivocally great for the sport even imo, but the idea he was somehow owed a 10th title which was also prevalent then was to the discredit of the whole sport imo, not least in respect of the titles Rossi won on merit. You should be glad unpopular riders like Lorenzo or Stoner won titles, given this was pretty much proof of the legitimacy of the sport.

i disapprove of GP bike racing becoming yet another narrative based sport, and if there is to be a current narrative it should be about a rider who is currently 14 years younger than Rossi and is both possibly as good as Rossi was at that age, and also quite likely a better chance of winning 10 titles himself than Rossi is as matters currently stand, not this continuing undercurrent about Rossi being robbed of the glorious tenth which still seems to at least partly motivate the attitudes some display, including towards Lorenzo.
