Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana 2022

Exactly. The whole thing has zero to do with racing. If he screws up and pays the fine and gets points on his license, like any other mortal on his day off from work, that should be the end of it. No reason why a person should suffer extra penalties for the crime of being talented or well-known. It’s really nobody else’s business. That some people feel celebrities are somehow beholden to them is just silly. You pays yer ticket, and yah sees the show. After that, everybody goes home. End of.

I agreed with Bern 1. Back to talking bike racing.

Doctors as are not involved in enforcing or adjudicating the law.
However, they are involved in treating the victims of such incidents and are therefore that much intimately aware of the consequences.

The question is whether or not Bagnaia should be professionally affected by his single incident of drink driving. IMO, no..... Should he face the same civilian sanctions as anyone else.... oh yes!
Should an airline pilot be?.... I'd say, yes....

Your expression for driving intoxicated is really weird to American ears. Sounds like you’re talking about someone motoring about in a martini glass on wheels.
Logically speaking one does not driving while drink. They drive while drunk. You wouldn’t say, Thet bloke is totally drink. LOL

Yes that’s the thing, the football players are usually restricted in when they can drink because it is deleterious to training and particularly recovery, and hence are prone to handling it badly.

I am not that down on him himself, it was a dumb thing from a young man and kind of understandable, but twice the limit and a crash are not trivial, and as others do I wonder whether Dorna and Ducati would have a different attitude if he was a rider of lesser status/ not Ducati’s hope for a first tile in 15 years and crucial to the denouement of the season for Dorna.

That is a good point. Had it been Digi, would Ducati have acted differently? I hope we never have to find out.

It was given earlier on as a reason for greater penalty as a group of professionals.
Publicity around the consequences of dui with respect to injury and death is huge. I don't see awareness of it as increasing the risk of collision being particularly lacking in any group of people.
Particularly not those involved in motorsport who are aware of just how finely tuned hand eye coordination, reflexes and motor skills need to be to control a motor vehicle at speed.

The long term slogans for the anti-DUI campaigns in Australia have been “drinking and driving don’t mix” and “if you are drinking, don’t drive”. So drinking has been the word, abbreviated to “drink” as is the Australian way. Those campaigns seem to have been effective going by the attitude of Australian posters on here.
