Gossip: Honda RC213V's engine is a 90° L

The team boss,Guareschi also goes on to say that it would be shorter (the engine) so the countershaft could be more forward or it would be rotated more forward in the frame. In other words the engine is the problem for Ducati because they can't get the proper balance with the L layout as he says. No one is copying the Ducati engine, Honda have been building all kind of V4 engines in many different angles for more than 30 years.

It's a copy of philosophy, I meant. They realize the advantage gap to the L is a bit significant. For years Honda has been using a V@70°, and now this? Ok, tell me that is not a copy if you want, but it is, as Honda also had "copied" (actually hired the workforce) Yamaha's new traction control.

I think for now the main difference Ducati have to Honda and Yamaha is electronics. Ducati needs desperately a competent electronics engineer.

I posted the Honda was a 90V some time around Misano.

You certainly did.

Perhaps the 990 honda where the V5 configuration allowed a narrow angle V without a balance shaft, and the V4 for the 800 class which was developed from it were the anomalies as fas as honda is concerned, their traditional superbikes were 90 degree, and they have only put out one narrow angle V roadbike as far as I know, which requires special design features to permit the absence of a balance shaft.

But is it 930cc?

Up until the last few races, both Yam and Honda ran their engines no faster than 16,3xx RPM.

Ducati have been ripping around at 17,5xx all year.

Unless they have some new alien technology, they are very, very likely running a short stroke engine. Since the bore is fixed/limited, the higher RPM implies that the Ducati is not an honest 1000cc.

Assuming all the manufacturers are running similar piston speeds, the relative RPM should give a crude estimation of stroke / displacement. 17,500/16,300 = 0.93, therefore 930cc is as good a guess as any, and is likely 'close' to reality.

There's a big, gruesome thread discussing this at: http://www.powerslide.net/forum/index.php?/topic/14879-engine-capacity/

Thanks, Geo.

But as above, "But is it 930cc?" shoulda had a smiley next to it.

Cool if true, shows how many "engineers" are on here.

Barry who once was on the show "punkin Chunkin" and Zoot who designed the little scissor type thing used to squeeze teabags prior to pulling them out of the cup.

Legendary modern inventors

Maybe they invented the "Geowhoosher" as well. Teaming them up would be sweet.

You are the GOAT of journalists.
Say what?

Well the most factual thing about that article is the word ........ Gossip .........

What a waste of time load of crap that was

Ducati need to go back to screamer for a year to see how the lessened VSG's go. Then try a narrower angle V the next year.
