It was very weird.

Here's a video from Italian TV. Dovi and another guy mention Loca tried to steer right but the bike would just keep going to the left.

If it was a technical failure it must have been sudden, because I doubt someone of Loca's experience would have continued if that was the case. Rider error? Seems strange but I suppose its a possibility..

Very, very strange incident.

that is a really bizaare accident, i had not seen the footage untill now.
its hard to imagine what caused that, the only think my imagination can come up with is something like one fork leg hydrolic locked, guess we will never truely no because teams dont often relese details.

That was a strange crash, definately looks like some kind of suspension trouble to me too. If the left hand leg hydraulic locked while still compressed from the previous corner, that would make a bit of sense to me.

Does anyone else find this eerily like Senna's fatal crash? I thought it looked like he was really fighting the car , like it wanted to go the other way.

But yeah I know what you mean, in both cases we lost legends of the sport, and both by freak accidents.

I just hope Locca will be ok.. After this though I think he'll probably hang up his helmet and call it a day.. he deserves a long break in the Seychelles for my money

Doctors looking after injured 250cc rider Roberto Locatelli are satisfied that the Italian has suffered no brain damage from his horrific Jerez practice accident, despite discovering new minor injuries yesterday.

Locatelli was transferred to the Bellaria de Bologna Medical Centre earlier this week, as moves are made to slowly bring him out of his induced coma.

Clinica Mobile's Dr. Claudio Costa has said that a third CAT scan conducted on Wednesday was positive.

"The tests have confirmed an improvement of his condition, although a contusion in the thorax has been detected which affects the left lung, plus a fracture of the tibia and the fibula just below the right knee and some related ligament damage," Costa was quoted as saying by MotoGP's official website.

"However these injuries do not require surgery. With regard to the surgery on the left ankle undertaken in Cadiz, we believe that no further medical intervention will be required on the injury.

"From this point, the medical procedure will be to bring Roberto out of his pharmacologically induced coma and to assess his general state.

"He will require a subsequent facial examination to further evaluate the numerous fractures he has, but doctor Roberto Cocchi has advised us that that he will only require minimal surgery in that area."

MotoGP organisers have begun an investigation into the cause of Locatelli's accident.

Roberto Locatelli has regained consciousness from the medically-induced coma he has been in since his horrific accident in practice for the 250cc Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez last Saturday.

According to Clinica Mobile's Dr. Claudio Costa, the Bergamo-based rider doesn't remember anything of the accident and is already asking when he can get back to racing.

"Since the first hours of yesterday night, following the sensible improvement of the lung situation, Locatelli was taken off the respirator and started breathing autonomously," Costa told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"His level of consciousness had a strong improvement immediately. He also started talking to his fiancee and to physiotherapist Francesco Chionne. Now we're waiting for the next to days in order to consolidate this result."

Locatelli will go through another CAT scan today because the doctors want to evaluate the situation once more before operating on the fractures on the rider's face.
