This has been surprisingly common recently. I think it's a shame that riders seem to do this more and more often, whether it's superstition or a commercial decision is not relevant to me, I think the #1 is an honor and a responsibility.

He has been listening to Talpa harp on about the "curse of the #1 plate" and has subsequently dropped it along with 100 IQ points (the consequence of allowing Talpa inside your head). He also requested Yamaha at least match Hondas $400 million budget this year or he will "quit" and go fishing with Kayzee.
Pity he wont run the JL 1 logo as it is a very clever design - as Tom said the honour associated with running #1 plate has waned in recent times which is regrettable.

Not wearing the number 1 says to me that they think it is all about them. It is as much the teams number 1 as the riders and it is disrespectful to the team to be more concerned about your own brand than rewarding the team with the number 1.

Jorge originally said the reason he arrived at 99 was : 26 + 27 + 46 = 99; but with 27 out of the equation it seems a bit odd. Is he going to have the saint and sinner above each 9, which he nicked off Leon Haslam IMO?? I did like the JL though

Lorenzo realized that he is not popular when Yamaha decided to re-employ show man Rossi back to Yamaha to boost Yamaha bike sales, this despite Lorenzo winning the title is a massive failure for JLo.
Lorenzo dropping the number 1 for this year, because he tries to be Rossi again, to do what Rossi had always done.
JLo is so unoriginal, all copy cat of Rossi antics, he is a loser, only losers do that.
What Lorenzo did not realize is that, all this number 99 nonsense, or Lorenzo land nonsense, or space man walk nonsense will not make him more popular, racing fans do not like winners who win on luck.
So, Lorenzo is obviously not as smart or as cunning as Casey Stoner.
Lorenzo lacks the smartness and cunningness of Stoner, lacks the talent and speed of Pedrosa,...but he has massive load of luck to win a title undeservingly.
