your not wrong there Frosty.

So now we have Fisichella taking a pole... Nice!

But whoever thought that putting Badoer behind the wheel was smart, is a total ....... They would have been better off taking anyone from GP2, F2 or whatever smaller series there are. Someone like David Coulthard or Anthony Davidson would have surely been a lot better as well.

And Fisichella obviously...

Makes a lot of sense to me actually.

man. the results this seasons have been so damn unpredictable. i was considering getting back to F1. But after seeing the results for the past few rounds, I don't think I'll ever follow it. maybe logging on www.f1.com is more than enough after a race.

Another Force India on the front row next to Hamilton, hopefully should be a good race like SPA.

Lotus granted 13th entry for 2010

By Pablo Elizalde Tuesday, September 15th 2009, 08:14 GMT

The Lotus F1 team has been awarded the 13th entry in the 2010 Formula 1 championship, the governing body announced on Tuesday.

The FIA said it had also received an "impressive" application from the BMW Sauber team, but given the uncertainty about the ownership of the Hinwil squad the governing body decided to give the entry to Lotus.

BMW was, however, given the "14th place" in case any vacancy arises on the 2010 grid.

The governing body added the it will look into expanding the grid to 14 teams, "consulting urgently with the existing teams regarding the introduction of an appropriate rule change to expand the grid to 28 cars in time for the first Grand Prix in 2010."

As revealed by AUTOSPORT earlier this month, the Lotus entry will be backed a company called 1Malaysia F1 Team Sdn Bhd, with Tony Fernandes as team principal. Fernandes is the founder and CEO of the Malaysian-based Tune Group, owner of the Air Asia airline.

The FIA said Mike Gascoyne will be the team's technical director and that Lotus will use Cosworth engines.

The company is a partnership between the Malaysian government and a consortium of Malaysian entrepreneurs. The Lotus name will return to Formula 1 as a constructor for the first time since 1994.

Lotus will be initially based at the RTN facility in Norfolk, UK, some 10 miles from the Lotus Cars factory. The 50,000 square foot facility was originally built by Toyota for its initial Formula 1 programme and then used by Bentley for its Le Mans programme.

The team's future design, R&D, manufacturing and technical centre will be built at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit.

Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds quit Renault over Singapore crash furore

• Renault will not dispute allegations of deliberate crash

• Team remains committed to Formula One until 2012

Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds have stepped down from their posts after Renault decided not to dispute allegations that the team ordered former driver Nelson Piquet Junior to crash deliberately at last year's Singapore grand prix.

The sensational move comes ahead of Renault's appearance before the governing FIA to explain their role in the crash. There has been intense speculation about the role of Briatore and Symonds in the incident, which saw Piquet's Renault team-mate Fernando Alonso benefit from the deployment of a safety car, after which he went on to win the race.

The Renault team itself is committed to remain in Formula One at least until 2012, but there is nothing preventing the manufacturer and parent company from seeking a buyer for the outfit.

The CEO and President of Renault Carlos Ghosn earlier told L'Equipe that the parent company would not react "in hot blood" to the allegations that were made against the Formula One team. "Above all we don't want to make a premature judgment one way or the other," he said.

The Renault Formula One team today said in a statement: "The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore grand prix. It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore, and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

"Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris, the team will not make any further comment."

The extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council scheduled for Monday at the FIA's headquarters in Paris will go ahead despite the developments. The WMSC may yet choose to impose severe sanctions on the team now they have chosen not to launch a defence.

Yesterday a transcript of the radio conversations between team engineers and the driver was published, revealing Briatore's outburst about Piquet in the immediate aftermath of the Singapore crash. He swore repeatedly and proclaimed Piquet was "not a driver".

The FIA charged Renault with "conspiring with its driver, Nelson Piquet Jnr, to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore grand prix with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of its other driver, Fernando Alonso."

Alonso went on to take the chequered flag at Formula One's first night race – his first after rejoining the team folowing a season with McLaren in 2007 – and at a time when Renault were considering quitting the sport. The French manufacturer will almost certainly plead for clemency from the FIA as they will claim the actions of two men should not affect the employment of nearly 700 other staff within the team. The FIA have the power to exclude Renault from the championship.

STORY N VIDEO OF THE FAKE CRASH

F1 really in the .... whatever happens..its lost any respect i had for it as a sport

Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds could be facing criminal charges for endangering lives after deciding not to contest charges of engineering Nelson Piquet Jr's crash at last year's Singapore Grand Prix.

Renault is due to appear before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on September 21 charged with bringing the sport into disrepute by having committed "a breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, that the team conspired with its driver, Nelson Piquet Jr, to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of its other driver, Fernando Alsono".

There are also suggestions that both Briatore and Symonds may find themselves having to fend off a three-pronged legal attack.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Singapore could request extradition from a Commonwealth country should it consider the plot to have been an 'extradition crime' - a category that includes 'acts done with the intention of endangering vehicles, vessels or aircraft' or 'malicious or wilful damage to property'.

There are also possible litigious cases from Renault for dragging the company's global name and image so publicly through the mud and Ferrari.

Felipe Massa had been leading the race when his compatriot Piquet crashed, but following the safety car intervention and a botched pit-stop, the Sao Paulista went on to take the chequered flag outside the points in 13th, before ultimately missing out on the drivers' world championship crown to McLaren rival Lewis Hamilton by just a single marker in the final reckoning.

"There is a clear causal link between the alleged cheating and the financial loss to Massa and his team, reasoned specialist sports lawyer Stephen Hornsby. As for Renault suing Briatore, that is possible too but Renault are unlikely to want to keep the matter going for little reward."

Flavio Briatore has been given a lifetime ban from world motorsport by Crashgate judges in Paris.

The 59-year-old was driven out of motor racing in the harshest decision against an individual in the sport’s history.

His influence ran to two key series, close to F1 and several leading drivers including Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber.

He will be particularly stung by the ban on driver management which earned him at least £4m a year.

His Renault salary was thought to be £2m.

The French car giant, Renault, must be relieved to have escaped with a two-year suspended ban despite admitting causing a deliberate crash in Singapore.

The team’s engineering director Pat Symonds has been banned for five years.

He was said to have planned the detail of the "accident", including which corner Nelson Piquet should crashed on to fix the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix so teammate Alonso could win.

Bernie Ecclestone earlier had called for a “balanced” decision and he appears to have got it.

Renault have got off lightly but that will please all within the heart of the sport because the upper management of the car company and even the rank and file who stood to lose their jobs over any kind of ban, were not involved in events in the sport’s night race.

But they have been told to meet the costs of the investigation ad hearing, expected to run to £400,000.
more..
The following decision was taken:

The World Motor Sport Council finds that Renault F1 team members Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds and Nelson Piquet Jr. conspired to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. The World Motor Sport Council therefore finds Renault F1, which, under article 123 of the International Sporting Code, is responsible for the actions of its employees, in breach of Articles 151© and point 2© of Chapter IV of Appendix L of the Code, and Articles 3.2, 30.3 and/or 39.1 of the Formula One Sporting Regulations.

The World Motor Sport Council considers Renault F1’s breaches relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to be of unparalleled severity. Renault F1’s breaches not only compromised the integrity of the sport but also endangered the lives of spectators, officials, other competitors and Nelson Piquet Jr. himself.

The World Motor Sport Council considers that offences of this severity merit permanent disqualification from the FIA Formula One World Championship. However, having regard to the points in mitigation mentioned above and in particular the steps taken by Renault F1 to identify and address the failings within its team and condemn the actions of the individuals involved, the WMSC has decided to suspend Renault F1’s disqualification until the end of the 2011 season. The World Motor Sport Council will only activate this disqualification if Renault F1 is found guilty of a comparable breach during that time.

In addition the World Motor Sport Council notes Renault F1’s apology and agrees that the team should pay the costs of the investigation. It also accepts the offer of a significant contribution to the FIA’s safety work.

As regards Mr. Briatore, the World Motor Sport Council declares that, for an unlimited period, the FIA does not intend to sanction any International Event, Championship, Cup, Trophy, Challenge or Series involving Mr. Briatore in any capacity whatsoever, or grant any license to any Team or other entity engaging Mr. Briatore in any capacity whatsoever.

It also hereby instructs all officials present at FIA-sanctioned events not to permit Mr. Briatore access to any areas under the FIA’s jurisdiction. Furthermore, it does not intend to renew any Superlicence granted to any driver who is associated (through a management contract or otherwise) with Mr. Briatore, or any entity or individual associated with Mr. Briatore. In determining that such instructions should be applicable for an unlimited period, the World Motor Sport Council has had regard not only to the severity of the breach in which Mr. Briatore was complicit but also to his actions in continuing to deny his participation in the breach despite all the evidence.

As regards Mr. Symonds, the World Motor Sport Council declares that, for a period of five years, the FIA does not intend to sanction any International Event, Championship, Cup, Trophy, Challenge or Series involving Mr. Symonds in any capacity whatsoever, or grant any license to any Team or other entity engaging Mr. Symonds in any capacity whatsoever.

It hereby instructs, for a period of five years, all officials present at FIA-sanctioned events not to permit Mr. Symonds access to any areas under the FIA’s jurisdiction. In determining that such instructions should be effective for a period of five years the World Motor Sport Council has had regard: (i) to Mr. Symonds’ acceptance that he took part in the conspiracy; and (ii) to his communication to the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council that it was to his “eternal regret and shame” that he participated in the conspiracy.

As regards Mr. Piquet Jr., the World Motor Sport Council confirms the immunity from individual sanctions under the International Sporting Code in relation to this incident, which the FIA had granted to him in exchange for volunteering his evidence.

As regards Fernando Alonso, the World Motor Sport Council thanks him for cooperating with the FIA’s enquiries and for attending the meeting, and concludes that Mr. Alonso was not in any way involved in Renault F1’s breach of the regulations.

Jeeez this guy must wear teflon impregnated race suit and use teflon hair gel...mclaren...no .... stuck there....renault no .... here either

something damn fishy here....

I'm surprised Renault got away with that so lightly, but I shouldn't be, after this was just a personal vendetta, BRiatore was the head of the FOTA and responsible of bringing Max down as FIA president. Now Max had the chance to get payback and he sure did.

Can't believe Piquet is getting away with this either .... anyway this is F1, there's a scandal every day. And I'm waiting now to see what's Flav gonna do next. I wonder if it was him who organized the spying on Maxxx's sexual habits? It would make sense.

Do you wonder if max von spanky will try for Lucas throat before he leaves????

Dennis... gone

Flabbio...gone

Luca...next????

I've been following F1 since I was a kid and in a couple of days I'm finally going to watch a race live in Singapore. Wish me luck.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I mean, Come on !!! You take one look at Briatore's face and you know the guy's a filthy scumbag.

The number of laps is ridiculous. I usually lose interest after the first 20 mins and wake up again in the final 10 laps. I think they should cut down the laps by 15-20 for each round and stop making 700 shirt designs for massa and the other numb-face. I walked in a sports shop a few weeks ago, looking for ONE, JUST ONE, ducati puma, ZERO is and was to be found to this very day. Ferrari? If i bought all the designs I saw on display I'de be living on the street by the end of the month.

F1 is still my first love in terms of motorsports, I have to admit. ducks for cover

I just watched my first F1 race at Singapore last week and the sound of the engines were music to my ears! When I was staring at the cars racing barely 3 feet away from me, my friend told me, "You look like a woman IN LOVE."
