Formula 1 2009

I'll always have a romanticized memory of it, being my first race, but to be completely honest, the sum is greater than the parts.

It may be called the 'Monaco GP of Asia' but the track itself is not so spectacular such that it doesn't have a lot of overtaking points. We were lucky enough to have positioned ourselves near Turn 14, and the Sutil-Heidfeld shunt happened right in front of us! Nick also walked right in front of us as he was going back to the pits. We got the cheapest Walkabout tickets, so it was worth every dollar!

The security and organisation of the event is typically Singaporean though--neat, efficient and effective. They have an amazing public transportation system and it's basically a walkable city, anyways. Oh, and you'll also get to watch free concerts if you're a race ticket holder.

Overall though, I still had a cracking weekend. Will surely come back to watch it again next year.

Hope Button won't loose the championship to Vettle. I don't mind if Rubinho win the title, but it it is next to impossible. Remind me of 2007 where Hamilton wasted his chance and pass to Kimmi.

Do you even watch F1 man? Vettel is mathematically still in the chase, but he is far behind in points. Even Rubens has a ways to go on Button's point lead.

Bring back Takuma Sato !!!

2007, Hamilton was in front of Kimi with 17 points with two more races to go...what happenned? Kimmi won and Hamilton lost his chance and team mate. If somebody rammed button car or DNF and Vettle win in both races than Button will cry fool for the rest of his life...

If Button should somehow wear his lucky sock on the wrong foot, and was struck with hay fever, pinched his lower back nerve, then win the Jackpot lottery, and forget to comb his hair on race day, then maybe Vettel just might win the championship...... hmmm, you're on to something V5stroker. You could be right on this one.

SPOILER...

Well done NEW World Champions Jenson Button (drivers) & the rookie Brawn team.(teams)

Wonder if Honda are kicking themselves

Congratulations to Jenson and Brawn GP team!

Don't think Honda are kicking themselves because they know with their underpowered Honda engine they wouldn't have achieved the same results as with the Mercedes engine they currently use which is clearly the most powerful on the grid.

If anyone I think it's Vettel and Red Bull kicking themselves, so much speed but so many mistakes this year.

Oh well looking forward to 2010. Alonso in Ferrari finally.

Congrats to Jenson.

I thought he'd just play it safe and it'd drag on to Abu Dhabi, but he was so good fighting his way through today.

Kobayashi really impressed me too - I know he managed to take Nakajima out, but the way he defended against the likes of Button was great for a rookie.

Also, thanks to Webber for telling me who won MotoGP, which I was planning on watching right after F1.

Congrat to Button for winning the championship and Brawn GP. It was dramatic during qualifying but Lucky Jesson keep it cool during race day. CONGRAT to the new world champion.

Brilliant race yesterday. Well done to Jenson and Brawn for keeping the title in our own shores. Jenson really maximised his opertunity this season and drove escellently when the car was on the money. He still seems to struggle when it isn't, and i'm not getting my hopes up for their long term success yet but for now i'm over the moon.

Heidfeld suddenly in demand for 2010
Nick Heidfeld was the forgotten man of the 2010 silly-season, but he could be in the running for a coveted seat at McLaren or Renault.

The Abendzeitung newspaper reports that, with Lewis Hamilton pushing hard against the prospect of sharing a team with Nico Rosberg or Kimi Raikkonen next year, Heidfeld has emerged as a candidate.

"He is the most under rated driver in Formula One," McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh is quoted as saying. Mercedes' Norbert Haug adds: "He brings over ten years of consistently strong performances.
"

if correct why dont lewis just get on with it & take anyone on if he's that good instead of being picky

and on radio5 Branson said how gentlemanly HONDA were and gave Brawn 120 million when they pulled out so Brawn could get going

so Brawn is still Honda under the hood.

Because Lewis will know as well as anyone that having two title contenders in a single team has cost both of those men the title many times in the past.

Nick Heidfeld is a way way over-rated driver. Sure the guy is consistent.... consistently behind all of his teammates! I just don't see anything in him, the fire, the passion, the killer instinct... nothing!! He is a very bland and unspectacular driver, and I'm sure that is the reason why Hamilton would like him as a partner. Heidfeld's been driving for 10 years now, and I've yet to see him make an overtake maneuver. He needs to make way, time's over bud.

IS the credit crunch this bad or is it just the costs involved in F1,

it does seem in recent years every year a new tyre design / spec is wanted by new F1 rules that are brought in

with Michelin gone too who can come in and do the job Bridgestone have done.

Bridgestone have confirmed that they will not continue to supply tyres for Formula One once their current contract runs out in 2010.

The Japanese manufacturer have been the sole supplier of tyres for the series since 2007, but claim they want to focus their resources on new technology and products after honouring the final year of their deal next season.

"The company focused on the need to redirect its resources towards the further intensive development of those innovative technologies and strategic products which support the company's goals and further enhance the company's reputation as a technology leader," read a statement from Bridgestone.

"The lessons learned through Bridgestone's successful participation have translated into innovations that can be applied to the design and manufacture of tyres.

"In addition, its collaboration with F1 has contributed to increased brand awareness and the recognition of Bridgestone as a leader in the global tyre industry.

"Having achieved these goals, Bridgestone is now poised to take its technological and brand building efforts to the next level."

Bridgestone has been regularly supplying tyres to the Formula One championship since 1997 and became the sole supplier a year earlier than scheduled when Michelin withdrew after the 2006 season.

They become the latest in a line of Japanese companies leaving F1 following Honda, who pulled out to cut costs amidst the global downturn, and the Toyota-owned Fuji International Speedway, who announced it would not host the Japanese F1 Grand Prix from 2010 and beyond.

There is already speculation about whether they will stay in motogp. I hate to say I told you so (I don't really to be honest) but as I said at the time discarding michelin was a bad move, as the competition gave both of them reasons to continue.

Williams announced as 2010 drivers Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg. I guess Sir Frank is REALLY short of cash.
I'd take any paydriver rather than Rubinho but I guess maybe they expect to get some Brazilian sponsor or something.
On the other hand Hulkenberg seems a very talented kid, looking forward to seeing him wipe the floor with Rubens.

Also today Red Bull announced they stay with Renault engines in 2010, hmmm curious, a few weeks ago Herr Mateschitz was saying Renault lost them the championship ... seems another team owner talking with his head up his ....
