With all the drama unfolding over the weekend, it's glossed over an important fact that after the next race at Valencia, the sport will be losing a former world champion who, as has been seen in the last 4 days with the bitching of others, has shown class and loyalty throughout his GP career. He's been a back marker of late, much to Jum's pain, but he will be missed and I for one wish him well in WSBK where I will be rooting for him.

Not a fan but he was the champion of the most exciting season of GP racing since I've been watching so good luck to him.

I may not be his biggest fan but will in so many ways be a shame to see him go as he really is the last of the truly good guys.

Best of luck to him in WSBK and I would not begrudge him beating Miller for the last race ;)

I forgot to add, He is the only person in history to win a 990cc Four Stroke title other than Rossi.

And the last great American rider. ....,what's wrong with you yanks. You've produced some of the world's most favorite racers but all we got the past couple of years is mamas crip boy

Damn, never thought about that.
I miss those old 990's with minimal electronics, they produced some exciting races.

The direction of our domestic series mostly. I mean look at PJ Jacobsen, he went thru the British domestic series to get to where he is today.

Good post, #22.
Nicky was the reason I had a great night instead of a good(ish) night in KL all those years back.
Got to shout at a telly. Got free Tiger draft.
Got asked if I was was a "real" bike fan from some Seppos backing yellow. tossers. Great season.
All this kerfuffle with vr/jl will overshadow his retirement from MGP. Which is crappy

He's probably my sentimental favourite - a very classy character.

I always felt that that he was a very underrated rider. He matched both Vale and Dovi on the Ducati. In 2010, he even had Stoner's measure on the GP10 for the first 7 or 8 races.

When traction control became so highly developed, his finely honed ability to slide a bike was no longer such an advantage.

I would have loved to see him on a Tech 3 Yamaha for these last two years. It seems, from what Krops has mentioned, that Nicky is sporting a serious wrist injury that is hampering his riding. It's a great shame.

I view it the other way.
He was over rated, but still pulled off a magnificent WC with all that pressure on him.
....... cool

Well at least it could be a good thing for WSBK. Haven't watched it in three years. Hope to hell he gets a decent bike and good support.

He's guaranteed good support, but the Ten Kate Honda is weak at the moment sadly. Probably the 4th best bike behind the Kwak, Duc and Aprilia

I reckon he was ace on a 990cc, on Michelins, with rudimentary traction control. I'm probably biased because I reckon he's a top bloke!

The really brutal thing for him is he is from a USA state that knows nothing about him. They never recognize him that I know of and only a few people outside motorcycling know of his accomplishments . Not the most talented rider but you never heard the guy ..... or complain and he would never be caught engaging in the ........ that is going on now. That is probably why Honda is rewarding him with a ride in WSBK.

For us Yanks we a left riderless and our only salvation is to cheer for the up and coming Italians against the greasy Spanish onslaught.
