Exclusive: Casey Stoner signs with Repsol Honda

An inside source has exclusively revealed to Hell For Leather that a deal between Casey Stoner and the Repsol Honda MotoGP team will be officially announced later today. The move will leave a seat open for Rossi at Ducati. Stoner's two-year contract with Honda will see him racing alongside Dani Pedrosa. Part of Repsol's sponsorship package dictates that at least one of the team's seats is filled by a Spaniard. It's not currently clear what this means for Andrea Dovizioso, who's Italian. Hopefully the official announcement will clear that up.

I guess we will know in 24hrs. The article says the announcement will be made later on today.

I think the same sources also said that the Rossi-Ducati announcement would be made at Catalunya. Right now, I'm leaning towards bogus, but we will know in a few more hours.

Well who saw that coming!!!

Casey Stoner will race for the Honda factory team in the MotoGP World Championship from next season, the Japanese manufacturer has confirmed.

The announcement brings an end to the Australian's four-year association with Ducati, with whom he won the world title in 2007.

The 24-year-old made his MotoGP debut with the satellite LCR Honda outfit in 2006, and Honda Racing Corporation vice-president Shuhei Nakamoto confirmed he hopes to team Stoner with current factory riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso in 2011.

"We are very pleased that Casey will join Honda again next year," said Nakamoto.

"Clearly he is one of the top riders in MotoGP and he will bring valuable speed and experience to our team.

"In the factory Honda squad we already have two very strong and experienced riders in Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso, who are performing very well and currently hold second and third positions in the 2010 World Championship.

"HRC hopes also to retain these two riders for next year - giving us what would be a truly formidable line-up."

Stoner's departure from the Italian team opens the way for Valentino Rossi to complete his expected switch to Ducati from Fiat Yamaha.

The reigning world champion is currently recuperating from a broken leg suffered at the Italian Grand Prix last month but is expected to return before the end of the season.
