Come to think of it - and I'm surprised Jum hasn't said as much - this recent event could easily be viewed as Dani's karmic payback

for 2006.

That said, the two events and two riders cannot be compared as the 2006 crash with Pedrosa and Hayden was an isolated event.

Whereas.... Simoncelli has been a habitual offender, and don't start telling us how we all have some kind of bizarre, unfounded predjudice against Simoncelli. Riders from all nations have been complaining about him for years. He's an unrepentant neanderthal.

He's also very fast and undeniably supremely talented - too much so to be assailed by Cal this season. When it eventually happens Crutchlow for one won't give a ...., and if Marco really wants to play hard he'll get it back with interest when they eventually lock horns. Keep watching...the way Crutchlow swatted aside the concerted challenges of Sofuoglu in '09 was legendary.

Can't wait. Actually, I've been quietly bemoaning Spies' lack of competitiveness this season, having had similar expectations. Now that he's done with his two bogey tracks - I'm hoping we'll see a return of The Pieman.

Which is precisely why Vale's moves at Jerez and Laguna '08 were so un-rossiesque in their nature. Valentino has with a few exceptions always been the master of stalking his prey and either pouncing when the time is right meaning his passes are generally measured and above all safe, or inducing unforced errors simply by the other riding seeing 'Rossi 0 secs' on their pitboard.

Not so much laguna seca 2008 imo; it was still an uncontrolled move but stoner was over the hills and far away if he came out of that section of the track ahead.

I still think he screwed up.

Also:

I guess we will all agree to disagree if the pass was racing, hard, too hard, aggressove, illegal ..............

Irrespective of any opinion on the above - I do also believe it was unnecessary at that point in the race - Simo had caught Pedro in just a few laps and had enough race laps remaining to repass him and pull away without the risk of this pass.

So he does need to learn patience and racecraft.

Bottom line Race Direction decided and Simo came in 5th.

Well, that's your bottom line. My bottom line is that the guy who would have been leading the WC gets 0 points, went under the knife again, and is in doubt for the next round because someone who'd been repeatedly warned about his riding took Pedrosa out.

That was what I would have said if you hadn't beaten me to it

That was the race Rossi seriously had to bring all of his racecraft to bear. And a bit more

I thought it, but didn't want to voice it. Didn't want to kick a man while down.

Its all in your imagination, Simo is not dangerous, its superior racing tactics. Isn't that what we've been told about Rossi?

Will this incident hurt simmo's chances of getting a new contract with HRC?? Will we see him jump ship and join ole mate on the Ducati in 2012?

Pretty much my view, particularly about the penalty being due to recent controversy about marco. The move was no more ambitious than valentino's at jerez, and darryl beattie, who has won premier class races, said on australian tv as an ex-rider he was embarrassed by the penalty, and suggested bumpiness on the inside, where dani was, probably contributed to the collision. I can't recall a penalty like this in all the years I have watched, and I even wonder which rule applied.

well said. It's a damn shame and wasn't the greatest move but one other more reputable riders wouldve been permitted to make. Rossi on wet tires charges into the inside to pass stoner and takes him out... Stupid.

..........just like how you said Casey should have smacked Randy a few times around the head instead eh??

Superior racing tactics that is..........and a good punch or two to the head of another rider at speed would also be a perfect demonstration of 'Proper Racing Etiquette' hey Jums........?

+1

Jerez is stupidity, But Laguna pass (shouldn't call that a pass) was more unexpected even to Rossi

New video with new camera angle: Simoncelli's knee touched Pedrosa's front, causing Pedrosa to stand it up and hit the back of Simoncelli.

Should at least put to rest the hard-of-seeing who thought Pedrosa didn't hold his line or should have leaned more.

Thanks for that.

shame that camera angle was not available sooner as it clearly shows what happened and that Simoncelli was at fault. The apparent "fact" that Pedrosa stood it up which lead to all the speculation (mine included) that Dani got in too hot, was revealed for what it really was - front wheel forced upright by Simoncelli's knee
<

Presumably this video was available to the stewards and hence the ride through. Why they saw fit to withhold it from the TV coverage I cannot understand. This thread would have been much shorter if only they'd thought it through
<

BTW, when Simoncelli was claiming "no fault" I wonder if he'd seen this video. Though I'd have thought he'd have felt the contact, TBH.

In the last race he didn't have time even for a cursory wave.

My compliments for being willing to change your viewpoint. Rare thing on forums (and for me, I admit).

I agree Marco got penalised because he's been taking heat from the other riders, i don't think that is right.

A little late to the party, but it I think Marco being penalised because he is Marco is something of a moot point. Who else would've tried such a dumb move like that, at that point in the race?
