<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Apr 12 2008, 02:00 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I think i understand the confusion between us here. You say the rain levels out equipment difficulties and i say it deosn't. In the rain the bikes merrits wont suddenly become meaningless, the differences between them still have as much affect on the bikes performance (relative to each other) as they ever did, but these differences become less significant to the result because the differences in the riders skills are commonly bigger when it is wet (the difference between a good and bad rain rider is larger).

The rain doesn't make the bikes equal to each other, but a bike which is 2 tenths faster a lap wont win the race when the rider is 6 thenths a lap slower.

You got a point and it's true that the differenece between riders increase in rain, but it is also true that the bikes are leveled. By slightly shifiting the mapping everyone get less top end but the worst of the "screamers" gain the most and get drivable at a level much closer to the best. The ones with lowest top end are sudenly on par. Suspension setup are turned softer and are no pushed to the maximum, enabling everyones suspnsion to work in a "comfort zone". Rain racing is simply not as abusive to the equipment and doesn't demand as much.
That's when the rider are more in charge of his equipment and decides his forutune and results alone.

I know the rain being a leveler is a popular opinion but that doesn't make it a fact. Remember people used to actually believe the earth was flat.
then why do you get the mid packers up front then tom ? im starting to think you dont really believe the crap you write, your just a conscientious objector

Well i know you have trouble understanding things sometimes, but peak power is not the only factor in determining the performance of a racing motorcycle. And there are further facotrs outside of the bike that determine the racing performance.

I turned out to be wrong, but did you even look at the FP3 results?

Dani had a very poor showing when it came time to run quickly on race rubber.

not a bad performance from rossi on stones but i think it was tyre choice today, if it was dry he would have won im sure of it, the stones where dropping off as the michelins were getting to peak performance, dam shame cos he was real quick and consistant all weekend....

What race were you watching? Looked pretty dry to me out there.

no it was patchy as the riders have just stated....... it was prob damp when they made there chioce but track was drying out during the race

No way they were deciding tires by the conditions under the 250 race or there about. Besides it was just a bit patchy at the start of the 250 race and the few drops did next to nothing. If they are anything near as "proffesional"
<
as we were they were out looking at the track, watching the 250 race, sending out scooters to report from the back side... and estimating the conditions for their own race and the only prediction to do was a dry race.

I think rossi (and stoner
<
) are still right in it; rossi scored more points on michelins last year than pedrosa or lorenzo this year in these races. Lorenzo and pedrosa will also be hoping there are no wet races, particularly at "michelin" tracks.

Provided Rossi gains some points on both the Hobbit and Jorge in Shanghai i think Vales back in it.And as for casey he needs to find that confidence in the front again becasue when he has it god he knows how to exploit it.This years shaping up far better than last anyways. Also JT 5th in the Championship behind the top 4 title favourites.
