Ducati submitted wildcard entry

There seems a bit of ambiguity in that article.

On one hand it quotes Tardozzi as saying 'The way I have got to know Casey over these months, his choice has not surprised me ......................... Had he chosen to race, he could have fought for the podium. And I mean any step of the podium."

And then.

"Had he asked us to race, we would have obviously replied positively, but he has always appeared reluctant at that prospect."

So on one hand, Ducati entered a request for a wildcard to the organisers and CS knocked it back, but on the other it is implied that all CS needed to do was ask.

The issue seems to be that perhaps Ducati assumed ................ and were wrong ................ that CS wants to race.

There are 93 reasons Stoner doesn't want to race.

What, not 46?

Stoner doesn't give a .... about Rossi and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. MM would have a point to prove if Stoner entered a race. He can participate in noncompetitive tests all he wants, but if he lines up on the grid on a Sunday afternoon MM will set his sights on him.

So what's it been now?4 years since he quit?,in my opinion he's never coming back to race moto gp,he was a great rider but i don't think he'd be competitive enough after 4 years out anyway, sure he's got the talent to get top 6 finishes straight away but i don't think he could challenge the likes of Marquez every race after being away from it for so long ,i'd love to be proven wrong but i reckon he should stop teasing people by pissing around with Ducati and all this will he? won't he? .....

Agree. If stoner come back Marcy boy would go hung Ho to beat him and might make a mistake and make title chase closer. Come on casey stop fishing and mix it up a bit

Sure, 3 and a half years not in the main game would make beating MM a Herculean task for Stoner riding a Ducati. Rossi not so much imo.

You missed the irony of the post .............

MM will not set his sights on CS as he is of no risk in a championship, just as MM did NOT set his sights on ....... because he is of no threat.

MM would focus on JL, VR and maybe DP but as for CS, he would care as little as most other riders

Think your spot on, last year with Casey subbing for Pedrosa would have been a different story tho!!! This year he has learned to play the long game.

It would be more likely for Stoner to crash after Marc mixes it up with him.

Marc crashing and making the title chase closer is a scenario that can play out without Stoner. People keep talking as if he can just take it easy and cruise til the end of the season. Marc doesn't want to finish off the podium and if his rivals have a good pace he'll have to push hard to secure podiums.

Not the way MM has been racing this year.

The way MM has been racing this year leads you to believe he can't crash? Even though at the very last round he made a mistake and rode off track into the gravel at high speed.

He has saved numerous disasters this year including the one you mention. He has been a lucky boy, but his freakish reflexes and abilities on a motorcycle play a huge part. Im a big believer that you make your own luck to a certain degree.

He does have very good reflexes, but some luck has been on his side and luck eventually runs out.

It must have been another rider with an identical name who won the first 10 races of the 2014 season and 13 in total that year.

Making the bold assumption that the same MM rode for HRC in 2014 as is riding for them this year, then yes I believe with the way he is riding this year's Honda thus far while not immune to crashing he is much less likely to crash than he was last year, and significantly less likely to crash or finish off the podium than his factory Yamaha rivals are to do so, as results so far this year indicate.
