Ducati Plan Public Send-off For Rossi & Hayden

10 February 2011 - Ducati UK

http://www.superbike-news.co.uk/absolutenmnet/templates/?z=4&a=71

The date and place are set for the public presentation of Ducati MotoGP Team riders, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden, with a special “Ducati evening” planned in Bologna’s Piazza Maggiore at 9pm on Friday, 4 March.

The city-centre event, which will also feature the brand new Desmosedici GP11, is sure to be a spectacular send-off for factory riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden and the entire Ducati MotoGP Team as they prepare to depart for Qatar’s opening round of the 2011 MotoGP World Championships on 20 March.

In addition to the entire workforce of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer’s factory in Bologna, fans from all over are welcomed to attend the incredible event and share in the atmosphere that will include the awesome sound of the Desmosedici GP11.

cool and Yam ain't even got a title sponsor yet.
<

It's like a "Yeah, good luck with that!" ceremony.

I think Yamaha will find a sponsor before Qatar.

Meanwhile lucky for those people who live nearby Bologna and can go to Ducati evening.

+++ that. With the world's most expensive MGP rider in the stable

coupled with the world's most idiosyncratic bike - the potential egg-on-face

factor is huge.

On the other hand - if it all gels - the big money send-off will seem prescient.

Lets hope the big sen off finds them the extra 1.2 seconds they need on the track
<

Its all looking like big pantomime and clown acts for 2011 ..... I'd rather they just got faster.

Let's wait a few races to see if Duc and Rossi are really that slow or if others in fact are that much in front. This year looks a bit/a lot slower for the Rossi camp, but i still wait a few races, beofre i say he wont be able to fight for 2011.

If we're looking for an indication of wether or not the Ducati will be competitive, it's Nicky we should be focusing on. During the next test while Valentino complains of his fitness, Nicky will be riding the tires off of that machine looking for the edge of it's performance. At this point, Valentino appears to not have the health to truly test the limits of the machine and provide the proper development that's needed to prepare the bike for Qatar. That duty clearly rests on Nicky's capable shoulders. Like it or not, Nicky Hayden is Ducati's best hope of having a machine that's been adequately tested and prepared for race #1 of the 2011 season. Rossi will acclimate and will find his form but it will not be soon enough for the first few races of 2011.

At this point, Rossi is Hayden's teammate, not the other way around if you catch my drift. Between the two of them, the Ducati will be go as fast as it's capable of going. Rossi will need more time, more data and I'd look for Nicky to provide the majority of the fastest times from which said data will be collected. I'm not putting Rossi down here, he's just in unfamiliar territory and not healthy enough to push.....his time will come.

I actually buy the "rossi had the fire back in the eyes on day 3 at sepang" line; he improved the most of the top riders and there were encouraging noises made about his shoulder, not least by burgess. I am sure he will be competitive this year. If rossi's development of the bike makes it less idiosyncratic but still fast then nicky should start looking good as well as you say, but much as I like nicky a bike on which he can win but valentino cannot is not a likely outcome imo.

As a stoner fan my hope is that casey was not showing all he had, a hope which has proven forlorn in recent previous years.

First, I'm also squarely in the Stoner camp myself!

I'm extremely hopeful that Casey will come true this year on the Honda and show his talent. As for the Ducati, I do not believe that Nicky can win while Rossi cannot. I believe that NEITHER of them are capable of winning on that bike at this point. I also believe that as it stands now, Nicky will be responsible for getting the most from the GP11 in preparation for the opening round in Qatar. Rossi will come good eventually. He will need more time on the machine than I think most thought .......but he'll get everything from the machine that it's capable of giving. I don't think the Ducati is capable of consistently winning no matter who rides it.

Casey is a talent unlike any other on the grid. His riding style occasionally suited the Ducati and together they posted results that I don't think anyone else is capable of emulating, that includes Rossi. I predict that by seasons end, Rossi will be pushing for podiums regularly but wins infrequently. Nicky will be in the running for 5th in the championship if all goes well. I think that's the MOST that can be obtained on the Ducati against 5 factory Honda's and two factory Yam's.....

I don't really see what difference a send off like this will make. In Italy yes, it probably happens every season, just it is making the news cause of Vale. Big deal. If cost is a issue, this is a drop in the bucket comPiared to vrooom.

As for the team, I believe both are very lucky (& happy) to have each other. Read what you want into preseason lap times, cause I doubt mindgames are a thing of the past.

Who knows what valentino can do? History suggests plenty. He will beat dovi for a start. Of the other factory yamaha/hrc riders you would think he would have trouble beating lorenzo this year, although he is the guy he will be most motivated to beat. In the general run of things you would think spies would need a year on the factory bike to be a real challenger, but I am unkeen to place restrictions on what he can do as well. Dani and casey will depend on how good this year's honda is.

I was very hopeful about casey after the post valencia race test at the end of last year, but I would expect him to be faster than rossi to a greater extent at this stage, and certainly faster than simoncelli, if he was showing everything he has got at the recent sepang test. My hope he is that he wasn't, and went harder in the valencia test last year to establish his credentials with hrc aginst pedrosa. Holding back in testing does not seem to have been in his repertoire, at least since he won the 2007 title anyway, though.

Bare in mind - Stoner has been known to surpass himself from time to time. At this stage of his acclimatisation

with the Honda - even he doesn't yet know what his full potential is.

I will be there in piazza maggiore on the 4th, its only 1km from my office...should be cool, Ducati has always done it, but I've never attended before. Yes I am a Vale fan, but have always admired Nicky.

Anyway, IMO Rossi will shock many of you who think he will not be very competitive from the start. Aside from the fact that when testing, Rossi never looked much at times, and even in qualifying, Rossi was never regarded as a fast qualifier, but when the races start, Rossi is the only one that can make a difference from qualifying to racing. He pulls out that .5 secs or more, nobody knows where but him. This is why he is the best rider the world has seen in recent times.

as for Stoner...now that he is back to honda, will we see rolling stoner part II? I recall his tenure at honda when first in moto gp wadding up quite often and in spectacular fashion.

i cannot wait for Qatar....

That's true, my own expectation in the last tests was also that Hayden should be the one for the best indication of ducati times, and i was expecting Hayden to finish in front Rossi in both tests so far. i also think Hayden has chances to shine better than Rossi in the first few races at least. I find your comment very fare and without any insult.

Your lucky, enjoy it.

I also believe Rossi does better on the race days than the tests and qualies, but this time he is in a new team and there are less tests and he isn't at his 100% yet. the first race/s will show us what can be expected from him.

Cool. It should be loads of fun. Take a few pics and post please. Especially of Nicky.

Agree, Rossi will improve, I think most people actually agree. The thing is Honda have mounted an all out attack on the title, both with talent and machine. None of us should forget Laguna 08, Rossi will resort to tactics that wins races. However, I'm not so sure that sense of urgency is the same for Qatar as it was for Laguna, which was the turning point of the championship that year. But you never know.

If you believe Rossi at face value, his shoulder will still be an issue at the start of the season. Though I'll add, only an igonorant person thinks any rider is injury free at any point of the season.

Have fun.
