Aprilia became a power in 250 using the services of 2-strokes wizard Jan Witteveen, who was a Dutchman. No problem working with Italian engineers because in the engineering world it is ideas, competence and results that matter; nationality is secondary.

You forgot the first rule of Engineer Club, ego.

Certainly managing engineers are a different breed than working engineers, says the son of a civil...

Where results are measurable, they have to be recognized in spite of jealousy; this applies even to the most hypertrophic egos of all, the riders'... :)

I am not, if he goes to Ducati there is a very good chance we will see them become competitive, and I for one am very exited to see this unfold over the next two seasons, he will have his work cut out for sure, but with Yamaha seemingly at the end of their current concept, Ducati could be a threat, plus it will be fun to watch every one who has slagged them off on here, start saying they knew it would all work out in the end.

I say .... Ducati, they have dragged their feet and treated their employees like .... for to long. I would rather see Gigi stay at Aprillia, Piaggio get the .... scared out of them and give more funds so Aprillia can over the next couple of year enter as a factory prototype team. It hurts me a little to feel like that because i of course would love to see Cal on a championship capable winning bike. Unless Ducati have a new attitude under Audi ownership i fully expect them to ruin both cal's and Gigi careers.

Hurts me to say it as a Ducati fan for several decades, but I think you are correct.

It has been reported that one of the factors for Dall'Igna was that Aprilia weren't prepared to mount a full factory motogp challenge. If he by some chance can retrieve Ducati's fortunes it would at least mean more than 4 bikes/riders could win any given race, which would be a positive.

I think he is probably aware of the threat to his career, which is why he held out for more control and presumably cubic dollars.

Gigi will turn this around imo, as long as they do what he says, and it looks like they will, this is going to be a very exiting time watching them at last go in the right direction, sad for Cal next year, but should be on it in 2015.
