Ducati 2011 Becomes AMG Mercedes Ducati

OMG. the Doctor brings yet another sponsor into our sport. Good on ya Vale

Actually Rog, an interesting point is raised 'if' this does indeed come to fruition.

That point being with regards to VR's relationship with Ferrari given that he is now (if this comes through) associating with a direct competitor in Mercedes.

But yep, any/all new sponsors are good for the sport and it would indeed be interesting to see if we see flow on from other industry manufacturers.

It does not say that Marlboro are no longer sponsoring Ducati. All it says is that the Ducati team will be sponsored by AMG and drive AMG vehicles. Where is the connection between that and a silver and black bike? All Marlboro has left is the red on the bike so I hardly think they will give that up and I hardly think that AMG are stepping in to be title sponsor and replace the full funding that Marlboro provide. Sounds to me that they will have an AMG patch on the leathers and the bike.

Just a thought but when rossi went to Honda Doohan took him under his wing. I also remember Mick racing AMG merc in some touring car series or something. Wonder if there's any connection. Probably not but worth a thought.

Wow! And here was I thinking Ferrari were in there, wasn't there a story of Rossi getting a new Ferrari recently? Guess that will haveto stay in the shed for a while now

You follow F1 don't you? Did those MBenz cars look ugly to you? Mercedes silver is beautiful, and leave it to the Italians to make it look sexy.

The mercedes cars this year look pretty terrible. But those mirror finish Mclarens look pretty good, can't see something like that translating well to a bike though, i'd like to see it

what about Rossi's carbon M in 2005??

or the FIAT carbon bike??

Neither of those are silver

Not a fan. I also didn't care for Fiat on the Yamaha. Why not italian on italian on italian? Fiat should have stayed, or really what would have been nice is for Ferrari give some of the smoke monies saved, and sponsored. In away this seams like a slap in the face again to ferrari from MB.

I'm thinking the same. Mayhaps Ducati could not get what they wanted from Fiat or Ferrari, so dangled the carrot in front of Merc.

Might still be speculation too ATM, or even a "press release/blog/leak" aimed at pressuring Fiat or Ferrari to come to the party?

Can't see this happening really. Bit embarassing for Ducati really too if it was anywhere near the case. ie. it means they would have lost some close allies during finding funding for the whole Rossi saga.

Is there anything saying this is title sponsorship? who's to say AMG will have any more space than Petronas do this year on the Yamaha.

This. It may just be something lost in translation, but i don't see anything huge in this.

Again. As far as I can tell, you guys have it right.

Isn't Marlboro's contract up the end of this season ?

I don't know, the two have been together so long and in parallel with the Ferarri F1 team that i haven't really considered a split as a possibility. Having said that with the removal of the logos this year because of the 'subliminal' advertising it wouldn't be all that surprising.

you are right....

I was responding to thisMy link with the carbon fiber comment to your silver bodywork post. Sorry it did not multi quote for you.

Anyway....if they run raw carbon with silver accents, I think it will look good. I still think with Marlboro dropping the amount of cabbage they did.....the bike will be red.

L.A. Auto Show: Ducati partners with AMG

November 16, 2010 | 9:33 pm

The new Ducati Diavel made its North American debut alongside the new Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG. The Italian sportbike manufacturer and the German performance automaker inked a marketing deal Tuesday to take advantage of similar brand profiles that value speed, handling and style.

AMG is now the official partner of the Ducati MotoGP race team. The 2011 Ducati Diavel is long, low and mean looking, with a plump 240 rear tire. Powered with an 1198 cc Testrastretta L-twin that makes an unbridled 162 horsepower and 94 foot-pounds of torque and runs in three modes. It also has traction control. The $16,999 Diavel hits showrooms in February.

The bike was on display in front of the Ducati Hospitality in Valencia.

I love the look, kind of a B-King killer.

I can see lots of carbon upgrade on the body.

Pretty neat how the passenger pegs retract.
