I'm not sure how the rules are regarding engine allocation etc, whether it is based on the bike or rider. Can't Yamaha give Crutchlow a '22 (or even 23) bike and let him get development time in?
I expect not, and even if the rules allowed, Yamaha may not want the RNF team seeing their latest bike before they switch to Aprilia.

No surprise ultimately. He commented a month ago that this season would be his last. The remaining questions was whether he would reach season's end. Now we know.

Wonder why he won't ride the season out. Hopefully nothing going on major in his personal life.
Aside, thanks to dovi, you've given us so many memories over the years. Go and enjoy life, or take it to dirt track again like last year.

Probably because he is done riding round in 20th. No point risking injury etc if he's decided he's already done.
