Doohan - Stoner could break all my records...and Rossi's

ahh sorry mate, i thought you were confused as to there ever being a different design as to what they have now. my mistake.

Like I said though, I dont think it was that "flawed". If it worked up until 2008, it must have been doing something right. Casey Stoner just helped it along its way.

This is the 'flaw' ducati riders including Stoner had to deal with.

"In 2007, with the motoGP rules changing and restricting the engine displacement to a max of 800cc, Ducati rolled out the GP7. The GP8 consequently, was an improvement over the flaws discovered in the GP7- mostly centered around the problem of pumping."

And this year they are still working on the same flaw.

“Ducati’s problem is that the engine of the Desmosedici is a stressed member of the chassis, and forms part of the entire motorcycle. The suspension and swingarm of the GP11 attach to the rear of the engine rather than to a chassis, and this is what has been changed on the GP12. To use the new rear chassis subassembly (revised swingarm, suspension and suspension mounting point) Preziosi had to design new engine cases, and so when Rossi expressed a strong preference for the chassis of the GP12 (which solves the pumping issues which have plagued the Ducati for so many years), his only option was to provide a new engine to allow the chassis to be used.” http://www.ducatinew...ck-of-the-grid/
