<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Hi Guys. Nice to read and be back in the mix. I’ve missed posting for a couple of races. But here are my thoughts on this one.
Casey Stoner has taken another step toward convincing the world that he is champion material. His accomplishment this year so far has been flawless and brilliant, most of all, confident, determined and mature. I think he has made great inroads to silence the critics that point to machinery and tires, etc. Though I did manage to read a few on this thread, but it’s like anything in life, you just can never convince a few blinded people who can’t accept it.
Colin Edwards proved me wrong, I fully expected him to put his bike in reverse. But I’m glad he stayed on the podium, though for a moment, a very brief one, I thought he might actually win. He may do well in Assen, he almost won last year, but it just wasn’t to be, perhaps this will be an extra motivation.
Vermeulen loves rain. And this is really a testament to his riding ability. I think both Suzukis are inferior to the top bikes but their riders really have learned to juice everything out of them. Good for the Aussie nation to have two of their boys on the podium.
Other notables, not necessary in finishing order:
Regarding
Rossi, It’s a bit exasperating for me to read some of the comments regarding Rossi. Unfortunately, sometimes a few frustrated fans take it out on the laurels of other riders when he doesn’t win (which always manage to point to something to make sense out of it). However, the guy is so good and I would trade his non-wins this year for my guy any day. So he didn’t win this race, but he had a strong and respectable finish. Now anybody who knows me, knows, I’m not a fan of his, but he’s only 26 points down, that’s not much. The guy is still the man to beat in my opinion. And Stoner is the only man doing it consistently at the moment. Which really keeps a high degree of pressure and volatility on the championship outcome. Is Casey up to the task—yes. Is Rossi up to the task—yes. I think both men are deserving, and one will be crowned champion, but lets wait until it happens before we start crowning somebody. Remember, fortune changed dramatically in the last two races last year.
Hopkins is a much better rider than we as spectators have been privy to see because he has always (this year no exception) been on excruciatingly inferior machinery. But the man gets every ounce, every drop of potential from his bike. He is good in the rain (not as good as his teammate) but he seems to be much better in the dry. People were screaming bloody murder when a rider would be passed on the straights, well has anybody been paying attention just how much Hopkins gets passed in the straights? Damn, if he had a nickel for every time this happened, he’d own his own team by now. If anybody had cause to complain about this (unlike somebody else) it would most certainly be Hopkins. I think we will see a win from him yet this year.
Pedrosa was doing well in the rain and was up there, but suddenly, I don’t know what happened.
West was on his way to a shocking debut, but then it all went wrong. I think he is much better than most people care to admit, but if he stays on the rest of the season, I think he will prove to the doubters that he is for real. He reminds me of Hopkins in a way, he hasn’t had the best package to showcase his skill, but recently (thanks in part to his manager) he has shown what a versatile talent he is, by both wining in WSBK Supersport, a few good showings on a crap bike in 250s, and now with this showing this weekend. Despite his crash, he showed that he had the pace to run with the big boys. And this should make some inroads in convincing those who think he’s not deserving of a MotoGP ride. I for one was impressed (no, I’m not a West fan either, but he deserves props).
Kurtis didn’t come in last. What does that say? Well I think it says that he isn’t as bad as some were touting. But I am still painfully confused about the team’s results this year. Team Roberts is in disarray, and I don’t know where to place the blame. I don’t even want to think about what this performance says about JR. Perhaps I’m blinded by fanmanship; damn I want them to succeed so badly. Errr.
Which of course brings me to my ultimate pain this year. Ah, Nicky
Hayden. What can I say? Nothing. No excuses, never. As they say in off-roading (as in all forms of racing) “you have to first finish, to finish first.” As a Hayden fan, it has been an excruciating season. I spent a better part of his championship run and off season defending his 06
title, which was vehemently disputed by those not willing to accept it, and it was my hope that he would do what Stoner is doing to the doubts now, but unfortunately, it was not to be. This of course doesn’t belittle last year’s accomplishment (that is only in the minds of a few immature and super biased people) but it would have been great for him to back it up with a few wins this year (which still can happen) but I think the title is out of reach (but I never say die). He is still young and talented, and I continue to hope and wish for the best. I firmly believe we haven’t seen the best from him yet!
Just a simple "Hi, I'm back!" would have done.
Jumkie's back folks, superb!
