Doctored: MotoGP’s Obsession with Valentino Rossi

I will leave this thread. And will let anyone say whatever they want. I will not respond in this thread to anything anyone says no matter how ridiculous it is. I will wait until a new thread is started and will greet civility with civility - because I regard you as a reasonable and objective person.

If anyone attacks me further I will respond in kind. Does that seem fair and reasonable? Mind you I've seen how these things go and as a rule - once a mob smells blood - they never stop. But out of regard for you I will leave this thread. I doubt very much it will make any difference. But I will go that far - because you asked me in a civil manner.

Deal. As long as you keep in mind that everything that you tried to throw in my face I replied with an actual time stamped rebuttal. I don't want you to leave this thread until you understand I/we are not attacking you but responding to your attacks. The reason I don't want you to leave until you understand this is because I never want to have this argument with you again. I can't stand it!

What made you leave rog and bonnielass off your list? The list just proves your delusion. As there are more than a few members on that list that can't stand you as a person.

And to the point that you said the shirt was supposed to be worn in a "normal" fashion is ....... laughable. It was never implied. Keep in mind you weaseled out of even wearing it in your avatar. You were only willing to post a picture of yourself wearing in a thread had I lost, because you were superstitious about changing your avatar. I .... you not everyone thats the truth!!!!! But I still took the bet because I didn't care. What ever happen to the green blob avi anyway doucebag? Tell me the story.

One of the redeeming aspects of this thread is that I've learnt the origin of your avatar.
Excellent work. And here I was thinking it was you waiting for a brandy enema.

Anyway since the forum bully has decided to "leave" we can get back on topic without further personal attacks. I for one look forward to the days when Rossi and Pedro are retired. The health of the sport not be better, but the series will not be as predictable. Factory seats will most likely no longer be 10 year tenures. We will see greater turnover and contracts will be based on merit, not status.

Certainly possible. However I predict MM at his age will have a very long tenure at Honda if he can stay healthy. I also think Lorenzo has many years. I suppose Rossi is the only guy who could literally stay as long as he wants with or without results simply because of his name. Pedro is better than his record reflects but his health is a continuous concern, I think 3 years left max. Of the second group I think Iannone has the best chance of longevity. A Esp???

Who else?

The sad thing is that so many of the previous generation of riders never got a chance at a 10 year tenure simply due to injuries....Schwantz, Rainey, Doohan (did he make it to 10), Beattie lost his toes and banged his brain.
I am with you in that factory seats were super precious, my memory of those times is tainted, but it felt as if you didn't perform and you were out. A season like Marquez' would put a question mark over you.

Mick, bad timing man, I think the thread has been restored, lets not screw it up please. Pretty please, as a person who has supported forum civility. I beg you.

Back on topic: I think the factory seats are basically set for Marc and Jlo, but how long will VR stay after he wins it this year? I see two seats opening up in a year or two.

Check that, wait wait...if Pedro rides the rest of the year like he did at Aragon, then maybe not. Only one seat may open up. My only hope is that Ducati and Suzuki become true competitors, then maybe we will have 2-3 other competitors to cheer for. Because lets face it, we dont see much of THE OTHER RIDERS.

And that is getting to the crux of it. Not enough competitive bikes.
4 factory bikes....then the rest.
Even when the Suzuki RGV was inferior to the NSR and YZR, you wouldn't baulk too hard at a factory offer, would you?

Never mind the Ducati of latter years where riders will still flock purely because it is a factory ride

In reality, no matter how much people rave about how good this year has been, when you break it down to the true number of competitive rides it really is a closed shop in so many ways.

Until one of the big four leave then there will be no openings for other riders with the best they are able to do being to keep their name at the top of the 'next best' pile in readiness for the seat to be available. Even then one suspects that having a big money sponsor may well help them over a similarly skilled rider without the sponsorship dollars of the 'interest'

Excellent points Gaz. And I'll add, some of these "2nd tier" racers are often erroneously perceived this way because they took inferior rides. I had a conversation with a racer who said this to me: "I know that if I take that subpar ride that people will think of me as subpar, now what if I turn down the ride and get nothing? Then what will people think of me?" Good question. I know fortunes can change year to year for these 2nd tier riders. Let me expand the thought, consider Redding (shelve what you may think of him if that is possible) just on record alone, as a runner up in Moto2 (who led the points until he got injured) he was promoted to a CRTesk machine. What does that do to a rider? Before you answer, consider what that did to Rossi when he tried it. He even said when he returned to a top 4 machine, I feel I have to relearn how to ride it. And with good reason because that first year back he was beat by satellites. Now let's consider Crutchlow's experience. He went from podiums and crashes on a M1 to back marker and crashes on a semi- resurgent Ducati. Had he fulfilled his contract term, where would he have ended up? I mean, lets be honest, both those years would have been a nightmare for him. But what seats would have been available after two horrible years? Now let's take a look at Smith, just by his Moto2 stats, he was not "deserving"'of perhaps the next best thing to the 4 championship contending bikes. His first year, well, it wasn't that good. Now he is looking good, but why wouldn't he. His experience is the reverse of Redding who started off on a CRTesk and now a "RCV-MINUS the army of techs"'to make such a complex machine work. And if we are to factor in what Krops says of the RCV, its compounded his experience.

So in that other thread, the topic is asked, who might replace Rossi? Well, we are pretty much conditioned to believe, practically nobody. (I mean replace the talent, obviously the persona and what that means for the sport is irreplaceable). Can Moto2 give us a clue? Well, Bradl, Iannone, p.Espargaro gave Marquez a run but on other planets in GP. So...who knows.

Vinales will be around for a long time I expect. if not with Zook then he'll get snapped up by Yam as a Rossi replacement or Honda as a Pedrosa replacement. He's on a 3 yr contract with Suzuki so IF he sticks that out I reckon Rossi will be ready to retire about that time.

Unless Pol Asparagus pulls his finger out of his arse, he ain't getting .... for 2017....

I think it would be hilarious if those Stoner to Ducati rumors came true and he came back on the Ducati, and then promptly won his first race on the GP16.

No you don't because then we will fight for years about how Rossi, Dovi, and co. developed such an outstanding bike.
