Its just corporate .... now rather than sport.. As sillyshit56 says, it's politics.

Yep.

Business, greed and politics will eventually end up ruining many sports and lives

The lure of the mighty dollar for some (and this is not so directed at athletes but the corruption within the sport) will mean that the entertainment and excitement are tempered by teh back room dealings (love the Lords of the Rings by Andrew Jennings - great books)

And you're what, advocating this as sound public policy?

No, just pointing that you were wrong. I didnt say anything that would lead anyone to think that i was for or against said policy, just that they have been offered because of low birth rates.

Because under the Soviet Union Russian birthrates were unsustainably high. Now alone they struggle to feed themselves and dont have an occupying force to employ people. A glimpse of the future of a lot of countries imo.

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered women cash to have more babies on Wednesday as he tackled a decline in population that is leaving swathes of the country deserted and threatening to strangle economic growth.

Unlike other developed nations, Russia isn't inundated with immigrants.

In my experience, Russians are pretty xenophobic, the kinds of people that would move there are not liked and not encouraged.

Fair enough, I wrote the first paragraph of my post rather clumsely. My point was that it is not a strange thing for governments to offer cash incentives that can have a positive effect on birthrates. Increasing birthrates is however not what these incentive structures are aimed at. I don't know enough about the Russsian demographic situation or about Vladimir Putin's 2006 public policies to place that particular comment into context. I was rather in euro-centric mode, as you previous post was concerned in part with demographic developments in Europe. And for the European case, although you are rigth in principle that we are very likely to see populations stop growing and start decreasing again, those projections are not quite as dramatic as your post would have me thinking, nor are the consequences of these developments.

Wow you can spell.

Should have had a comma between 'Wow' and 'you'

Wow, you can't spell! Who would ever have guessed? And your arguments suck ....

Just .... off and be ignorant, I couldn't care a .....

I pursued an intellectual exercise - how much water is displaced by a billion tons - anything else inferred or implied is as a result of you being a .....

That wasn't inferred or implied, by the way - that was a clear, unequivocal statement, in case you are still having difficulty with understanding plain English.

You may find it laughable, it's probably one of the reasons your education was so ineffectual.

Carry on, ......... I'm happy to enter any battle of wits you may entertain, although I suspect you are coming to the party unarmed - or at least only half-prepared.

What started as an innocuous post has, through your inability to discern the most basic intent, turned into your becoming a risible pultroon - just carry on, I know which of us will be the first to flinch. I have shat better than you.

Australia is the smallest continent and the largest island on earth.

Technically that's correct - but precisely due to the fact that it is classified as a continent means that Greenland is regarded as the largest Island on earth.

That's how i understood it.

That's how i understood it.

Well obviously I am correct now, thanks Reg.
