Debon is a solid rider, but i question if he is good enough to challenge for the title. He certainly couldn't hang with the top 3 this season, but assuming they all go up to motogp the level of riding in 250 will decrease slightly to something he can run with and maybe win at. The problem ultimately lies with the fact that Baustista (and maybe Kallio) will be too strong.

True, KTM are awesome in the lower classes, I just don't see where the quality riders will come from.

Thanks for a wonderful and insightful response as to why a 32 year old (08 season start) gets a factory Aprilia ride after achieving jack ..... Im wondering if it had anything to do with the fact he's Spanish. Difficult to accept that maybe a 'solid' if not unspectacular rider got the best seat in the class because of his nationality. Never happened before.

No way 250's are 'dead'. Sure, Dovi, Lorenzo and de Angelis will all be going but it will give someone else a chance. Bautista will be the dominator in the class, with Kallio and Luthi also strong riders, plus the movers up from 125. Ok, so 125 doesn't have as much talent as it previously had... but there are lots of hidden riders there who haven't been given a chance. I think that Krummernacher and Esteve Rabat look pretty promising, plus Bradley
I'd love to say Pasini too... but he's not strong enough to handle a 250.
Debon would be a stupid replacement. He's a good fill-in rider, but to have the bike full time would be silly. Give it to someone like Luthi.
