Its here guys. This weekend is HUGE. Haga has a great record there,Yamaha has a won 3of the last 4 races, with Haga onboard. Was it the Yamaha,or was it Haga?. We will see what Spies has got in his gut this weekend. I have a feeling he is going to do VERY well at this track,it doesnt favor the Ducati like Imola and I4's seem to go well here. I believe Spies has to make hay this weekend because Portamou is a crap shoot . You never know who might unload there and be crazy fast or crazy slow.Im thinking double for Spies

...., I thought it was Portimao next, I HATE this circuit...at least the show down is at Portugal, but yeah I agree - this is a massive meeting

I agree with you Povol, this weekend is going to be massive. Spies had a terrible weekend at Imola, but the end result put Haga and Spies nearly even with 4 races to go. Haga has great history at Magny, 2007 he was amazing, pulling the double in a last chance to try and catch Toseland in the points. He knows his way around Magny perhaps better then anyone else out there, but this year it will be on the Ducati. I still have to pick Haga as the favorite for the double, but Spies has shown, lack of track knowledge means nothing to him.

Really hard to call and it's going to exciting to see how it turns out. My only wish, no one pulls a spoiler and takes either guy out. J. Rea, Fabrizio, ya I'm talking to you guys, please keep it under control.

pins and needles.

Spies has a huge disadvantage this weekend, but Portimao may give him a very slight advantage.

This will be interesting, I can't wait.

This weekend Haga has to be the favorite, in Portugal Spies has to be. The key for Spies is minimizing the damage this weekend as it's a place Nori can go very well at. Like Boots said though, lack of track knowledge hasn't hurt Spies in the past.

Spies almost has to keep it within 10 points.Fabrizio i believe will be elimanated from title contention this weekend and team orders will come into place for Portimao ,almost guaranteeing Haga at least 2 second place finishes. This is where a year long lack of help from Sykes is going to come into play. There are definatley other players in the mix but i believe for the most part they will be professional and let the main players settle it. As usual, the wildcard will be Fabrizio, who is capable of taking points from Ben,or taking him out. What would be really cool is if they tie and Spies wins the title on wins.

I just think back to Valencia at a track that Haga likes and dominates and he didn't dissappoint, he destroyed the competition. It was really an eye opener to see Spies get beaten so bad. I think Haga has a really good shot at the double here as well, but I also think that we will be seeing a much more determined Spies. I have seen Spies on the ropes before and he has come through cool calm and collected. I bet Spies has watched Haga's race at Magny about a thousand times/ I think this one might be too close to call but I am going to give a slight edge to Haga. Spies needs to be on strict damage control, meaning no less than second either race.

a bit of both methinks.... it should be a cracker of a pair of races! i want to see a epic head to head battle between spies & haga... no interference anyone else.

Nieto? Who's he?

I really don't know what to expect this weekend. Mathematically Fab can still come second or first, so I'm guessing he might do something very stupid on race day. If that doesn't happen and Haga and Spies are 1 2 then its really hard to call. Never been more clueless !
<
I just hope the gap between Nitro and Spies remains very close to keep the final round something to talk about. Lets hope Rea continues his offroad and stays far away.

At this point, Rea can be a huge help to Spies as kind of a defacto teammate since Yamaha cant depend on Sykes for any help.Speaking of Rea,it appears Honda has found something in the last half of the season, especially Ten Kate. This scenario is taking me back to the final race between Bayliss and Edwards.

Bayliss and Edwards broke away but Bayliss needed help, so he slowed the race pace enough to hold of Edwards but allow Xaus to enter the fray.Once Edwards realized what was happening,it was on.Not even needing a win,Edwards upped the pace forcing Bayliss to go with him and it resulted in probably the 2 best laps of racing i have ever seen with so much on the line. I liked Edwards before then, but became a big fan after that.I remember saying to my buddies, thats how you close out a championship.Thats what i want to see from Spies this weekend, balls to the wall and caution to the wind.Hopefully he can get some help

Ugh, Spies is in trouble.

Everyone who rides a Ducati has got factory equipment and access to data. If they pass Haga they will be killed.

Spies is going to have his work cut out for him, I'm afraid. He's used to battling 1 guy for the championship, but an entire team?

If he wins this championship without a major mistake from Haga, it will be his greatest performance ever.

I am more excited about whats gonna happen at Magny-Cours than Estoril this weekend. This coming from a huge Hayden fan too! Anybody feel the same?

I was going to post the same thing. The GP race is secondary this weekend to me. I wonder if you and i will feel the same next year, even if the title is this close, since no American will be in the series.

Honestly, just a little. But that doesn't mean I won't be watching intently what goes on in WSBK. I was watching the series with much interest before Spies, and I will after him. I had got use to not seeing an American in the series, so I don't think I will lose much interest. I will be very interested to see how Toesland and Crutchlow get on with the Yamaha. Also, if the rumors are correct and Bayliss attempts a comeback (which I really doubt since I think it was Spies that sparked Troy's interest more than anything).

I hope that with DMG's destruction of the AMA, that some Americans will sack up and make a switch to WSBK. Chaz Davies scored a top ten (I think it was 6th) and he usually in the top 5 in Daytona Sportbullshit. So if the young guns like Herrin, DiSalvo, Eslick, Young, Aquino, Etc. were smart they would be asking around the world supersport/superbike paddock for jobs. (Unfortunately, I think if Yamaha stays in the AMA then Hayes and the Graves boys will stay). The other guys might stay because they are complacent.

On top of that Haga never starts the race weekend this fast out of the gate. He is usually much further down, taking his time setting up the bike. Spies definitely will need to find something special to hang with Haga, cause I think he is going to check out to stay away from the riff raff(Rea, Fabrizio, etc).

It's going to be a good one. Two tenths between Fabrizio, Rea, Haga and Spies. Is it Sunday yet?
