CATALUNYA GP 2018

It would be rather ironic if Jorge mostly delivered what he was hired for in his remaining tenure at Ducati.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Jorge finishes the balance of the season with more podiums than Dovi.

One win and Dovi was already bitchy in yesterday’s press conference.
A few more and it will be full on catfight.

What did he say?

That he “Hopes for a better atmosphere “ with Petrux in the team next year.
I mean, him and J.Lo have never been friends and J.Lo most definitely isn’t on many people’s Christmas card list, but Dovi has been getting a bit cocky since signing his new contract. If it helps him win more, more power to him, but it seems to be having the opposite effect on him.

And found that the problem all along was ...... the shape of the tank.

I am convinced this might be the case. But since I generally suck at predictions I dind't say it too loudly

Would be interesting to see results of other Ducati riders with the new shaped tank as whether it is a JL thing or an improvement that suits all could be a telling legacy for JL to leave.

Once healed, I suspect that Pirro will be testing it somewhere.

If he is comfortable it should be expected as for mine, he is the better rider plus now if he feels the bike is sorted he also has the extra motivation fuelled by comments and innuendo.

And yet when Pov mad comments a few weeks back he got shot down.

I have seen it in a few places that Dovi has shown a side this season that a lot of people did not realise was there and, well frankly, some preferred the goody two shoes Dovi.

Like I said, I liked the old Dovi better than the new Diva Dovi who has his gob in everybodies business. Number one status is not suiting him.

I also subscribed to the theory at the time and remain so today.

Either the #1 status has somewhat gone to the head or it is a growing manifestation of the ongoing issues he has experienced with Lorenzo throughout their careers (although it must also be said that Dovi and Ianonne are not mates, but then few are mates with AI).

Going on a limb a little but I suspect that the decision to go with Petrucci may have been influenced by the unsettled environment in the team as for mine, Jack Miller may well be far more ambitious.

I've heard Jack count ....6,7,9,10...
I think he would support a teammate if/when appropriate.

They have only signed Petrucci for 1 year I gather, and I guess if Pramac are as closely integrated as is said they can give Jack strong support next year if he does happen to break out.

Totally agree, but I also think that Jack would play for Jack whilstever he could be competitive in a championship sense, and once his chances were gone if Dovi was to remain in touch than Jack would take the snagglepuss line of 'exit, stage left', or as it is now called MAP8 Mate.

I also tend to think that Dovi may see Jack more as a competitor than he does Petrucci who he has seen for a number of years on similar machinery so he knows what is there to expect.

None of this means that Petrucci will not go for the win if he can, but that he may be an 'easier' team mate to deal with.

I saw it mentioned somewhere - may have been here may have been elsewhere that Petrucci being on a 1 year deal is interesting in two ways.

The first being that it removes both factory riders from being at contract renewal time at the same year, thus frees up time for decision making and secondly it gives them an out should Miller prove to be exceptional (or not so) or Petrucci not so successful as it would allow a clean out.

Sure, makes sense about the 1 year contract, they won’t have to panic sign anyone

Sure, what you say makes sense about the 1 year contract, they don’t want to be in the position of having to make a panic signing and may have felt Dovi had too much leverage for their liking this year. Not much of a vote of confidence vote in Petrucci, although I guess he gave them an ultimatum first early season.

Petrux asked for a 1 year contract. Something about proving himself worthy.

No offence, but I suspect he would well have taken a longer contract as no rider would really 'ask' for a single year deal where a multi was on offer as these guys all want a multi-year contract except where they either doubt themselves on that bike (Petrucci would not on the Ducati). Alternately they may seek a single year deal if they plan on using that year as a 'filler' type year until something else more desirable is available (may be the case but it is not like Petrucci is knocking on the door of championship potential either).

My suspicion is that Petrucci is playing politics and making such statements to help himself feel a little better - after all, in today's world very few riders get a single year contract where no extension possibility exists.

May well be wrong, but as I said elsewhere I take what these guys tell us when it comes to contracts, as nothing more than a statement from their view and thus it reeks of self interest (and that is not a slight on these guys, everyone tailors statements to suit their purpose).

If I recall correctly, Ducati always said it was a single year deal on offer for whomever took it .......... vague recollection there

Might very well be politics, but the only fast riders out of a contract at the end of next year are Miller and Crashy I believe.

Personally, I find these early signings really ridiculous. I mean, I feel for Redding. This guy used to battle MM in Moto2. Now he gets a 1 year contract and they replace him before he can even get used to the bike.

Totally agree on the early signing part as for me how the fark is someone supposed to produce their best when they are already cast off this early, moreso when in the likes of Redding he is a few races into the contract ......... talk about not allowing things to settle or riders to acclimatise.

Thing is, to be fair here to Redding, he has been around a couple of years with little in way of results (a couple of wet results not withstanding), but I also feel that his size is an issue and, well, to many people from Britain in the paddock is not going to help him in DORNA's eyes (as I suspect it helps with others - including Jack).

On a side note, I personally suspect that Redding could do quite well on a superbike but at the same time, he has left Aprilia so that is not necessarily a bad thing as they do not inspire confidence

Not sure what can be done on the signing side short of some kind of window but then how do you enforce it and does it only apply to existing MotoGP riders?

As for the likes of Miller, Crutchlow and now Petrucci one needs to hope that they achieve although for mine, Crutchlow is the safest of that crew.
