Casey Stoner Interview: July 5,2007

I quote the final Q and A from this article.....

SpeedTV: Kenny Junior told me in France that he and Valentino were going to go to the Safety Committee and ask that the tire rules be changed back to what they were. That didn’t happened, but a lot of riders, Michelin riders, are asking to change things back for next year.

C.S: Why? It was completely unfair what was happening last year. At the beginning of the season you watch any interview with Valentino, Colin Edwards, the other Michelin riders and they were ‘yeah, yeah, no problem with the tires. I’m stoked with it, we haven’t got any problems’. And then they are not winning and straight away the tire rule is crap…’it is destroying our season’. They even admit that they had tires flown in or driven in overnight, special tires for the occasion, and Bridgestone didn’t have that option. And where is the fairness in that? These new rules are making the class a lot closer and fairer. Everybody was talking about my Ducati being too fast at the beginning of the season, but that’s because Ducati did their work. But what about these special tires being brought in…how fair is that compared to just having a fast bike under the same rules as everybody else?

So..........................

The playing field has been levelled, and the results unexpected. But the truth is Casey is whipping ... because of his ability to learn and improve. He's a very fast and clever kid, and I'm full of admiration for his achievments this year.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>SpeedTV: When you took the pole in Qatar in only your second MotoGP race and were leading Rossi over the first part of the race, were you surprised to be going that well so soon?

C.S: Yeah, well Dani did it in the first race in Jerez and Dani and I had battled all through the 2005 250 season. It was a little bit frustrating because coming into that season of MotoGP everybody just looked at Dani. Sure, he has a lot better resumé than me going up into MotoGP -- he’d won championships -- but I had pushed him. But everybody seemed to completely forget about me and they were all saying that Dani was going to be the fast one out of us. But as I got on a bigger bike and in a real factory team for the first time and I now know what Valentino and Dani have had their whole careers from the beginning and with factory technical people around them… I have sort of been on my own the last three years and I have had to go through hard times that have made me a stronger person.

This is the reason why riders from Australia are better when they get to the TOP!!! Exactley what Casey is saying!!!

Its a good interview and he makes some very valid points-i agree that Michelin had an advantage by bringing in tyres over night, this shouldnt happen, i think though that the teams should be allowed to bring more than the current quota to a race just to increase the chances of every team finding a good set-up because as it stands now, with the last 2 races being ....., we're gonna lose the head to head stuff we should be seeing every week and got used to up until the new rule was implemented.

QFT!

But I suppose Rossi and the older riders are used to 'those' tire rules, so it's harder for them to adapt as opposed to a new rider.

Every time I read more about this bloke, the nicer he seems.

Well in 2007 it’s an even playing FIELD NOW BOY”S & .....!!!...and unfortunately the Yamaha, Honda and all the satellite teams except Grisini were caught OUT!!!...BIG ....!!! & BAD LUCK BOYS!!!...as youse have had the ADVANTAGE FROM MICHELIN FOR FAR TO LONG AND YEARS FROM YEARS PAST!!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>SpeedTV: What is the most annoying question you keep getting asked?

C.S: Why did you crash so much last year? I know the reason and I think for a lot of people it should be obvious what the reason is. The way we have been able to step it up this year without the crashes. There were too many times that the bike would change from one session to the next or from qualifying to the race and it was nothing that the team was doing. Other people were playing games. I am not going to say who but it has been obvious over the years how certain companies have played with their riders. ‘We want you to win, yep, but we don´t want you to win,’ and it is obvious that that has happened. It wasn’t obvious to me last year. Every time I crashed I was in the gravel trap scratching my head and saying ‘what the heck is happening here, I’m losing the front for no reason’. I get off the brakes, just touch the gas, I was already picking the bike up. It all started with the crash in Barcelona, I went in there the same as I had in practice and it was gone. Mugello, that was a bit more my fault, but the other crashes, starting with Barcelona -- I did not know what to do, I did not know why I was crashing and why it was my fault.
man this is shocking

Yes well NOW WE KNOW EXACTLY WHATS GOING ON!!!...and all the European BOY's have had it to good I'd SAY!!! For far too LONG!!!...and if you read Casey’s interview he really tells it like it IS!!! And that is why if all the riders were on the same tyres, bikes then the guys that had to struggle to get to the premier class would WHIP the Euros arses!!! Be it in the first, second but it wouldn’t take them more than two years to achieve what these guys have been achieving on the top teams, top bikes and top support!!! A great interview and goodenia Casey FOR TELLING IT LIKE IT IS!!!

not sure about the europeans having it all their own way but i totally aggree with his interview.
the last few years the michelin runners were never maonignabout the tyres and it wasnt fair to have tyres flown in over night and now the stones are leading the pack with the duc at the front.

it still amazes me how quick the stones are straight out of the box on fp1 and its also a credit to casey to stand up and say what is really a fair battle now everyone has the same tyre option apart from which manufacturer they use.

Good on him , not bad for a 21 year old

its a good interview, and i agree with casey about the tyre rules.
There is no need to insult others dude, you should be banned for that.
BTW a lot of people have jumped on the stoner's bandwagon for the wrong reasons, when he wasnt doing good where were all the aussies to support him? everybody was just making fun of casey. its pathetic man. same thing happend with the hayden fans(well the majority), they only supported him when he was up there, now they have all dissapeared! same thing is happening here in england with hamilton, which is very sad.
If you have anything to discuss then great, but just throwing random insults its why people dont bother replying or visiting this forum.

I should be banned???...Listen to me Mr. Rossifan you‘re very inexperienced fan or a has been or will be a has been fan of Rossi very soon!!!...I have always been and followed every Aussie rider! And this is right from as far back as I can remember??? I go back to 1981 with Gardner...but I also can go back with the great Barry Sheen in 1979!!! Rossifan...Can you remember that far back..were you born that far BACK...or Freddy Spencer??? Or Eddie Lawson, or Randy Mamola, or Ron Haslam, or Rob Macleay, or etc etc ...you’re a fool Rossifan and you’ve got NO IDEA WHAT YOURE TALKINK ABOUT!!!...

Please remember that I only joined this forum in June 2007...mate!!!...and also please appreciate what you can learn from others!!!...and also Rossifan I go back to the Australian greats...like: Gardner which I followed his carrier and world championship conquests throughout 1981, 82, 83,84 85 etc I was there when gardner won the first GP at Pillip Island...But you wouden’t konew any of that as youre to young!!! And I knew every rider that raced since 1978!!! So please don’t educate me Rossifan as Kenny Roberts, Barry Sheen, Unchini, Gardner, Lawson, Doohan, Corser, Bayliss and etc etc are part of what I grew up with!!!

And casey is not speaking for his sik mother?
Quote:
"These new rules are making the class a lot closer and fairer."

I would guess that the closest race so far this year were about as close as a boring race last year.
Say what you want about the rules but they sure doesn't make for closer racing. But as the stones work better over a wider span of conditions, Stoner is of course delighted with the new ruels.

Btw: the media (and stoner)get it wrong as usuall , Rossi never asked for the old rules but for more tires, but no last minute shipments.
It would create fairer and closer racing, but for the sake of argument it's easier to repeat the lie that Rossi want the unfair last minute batches back.

I don't buy any of his "my bike was changing all on its own" crap, he wasn't riding Herbie! I think this is more likely an example of what happens when a riders head isn't right, and this season has shown what can be done when it is!

At 20 years of age in his first year of MotoGP why wouldn't his head be right?! Doesn't make any sense to me!

He was in a team that he respected and had 3 or 4 seasons with in 125 and 250! Lucchio was his early mentor!

Let's face it ... HCR don't treat anyone that isn't in their factory team as equal ... they treat them as peasants!

It is more likely in part to do with his affinity with the Bridgestone front tyre ...
