In races that Spies (factory) and Cal (sat) both competed in last year, Cal beat Spies 9 times, Spies only beat Cal on 4 occasions.  Spies did not get on the podium at all, Cal got on the podium twice not once.


 


The British public know that Cal is the best rider from this nation since McWilliams, so yes we support our boy to the hilt.  We are a passionate nation and love our sport and are even prepared to fight for it, and were feared at the same time.


So if you want to compare a factory rider to a satellite one, you just made yourself look a fool.  151points to 88pts.  So where was the "same racer" yesterday, pottering around in tenth and having to battle with Espargaro, on what we all agree is a much inferior bike.  Going from a factory bike one year to the lowest prototype team the next, Cal still being able to fight with the best bikes with the best riders.  Even Hayden has kept a factory ride since winning in 06!

I've never been a Spies fan. Hardly, I'm a Haga guy. I don't really care what Spies does or doesn't, did or didn't do because I'm not a fan. Cal errors and DNF'S too much. Dovi beat Cal by 67 points last year on the SAME machine.


Is Dovi more talented than Cal?

Compare Spies and Cal on the satellite Yamaha, pretty similar...Cal does have more of Simoncelli in him....but I still think he is fast rider but not a podium contender

This got me to chime in on a thread I had no intention of joining, but rather just wanted to enjoy it unfold.  


 


I don't think either will ever become MotoGP champs, but honestly, I think Cal has more of a chance at becoming one at this stage and trajectory of their careers than Pedrosa.  Regardless of how its occurred, Cal is now in a better position to get on a factory seat than Pedrosa has at retaining one. Again, Pedro was given a new lease at HRC when Stoner retired, but if Honda eventually give Bradl a shot and demotes Pedro (as they should have a year ago) then it would be (mathematically speaking) advantage Cal.  If this were to happen, then the odds simply are in Cal's favor (considering the politics and parity of GP).  Something dramatic would have to happen for this to occur, but its only one injury away from happening.

Far more experienced and it showed last year if he does get some kit from the factory Cal will only get better.

I think Cal will get the factory goods when he stops making errors and puts the bike where it belongs. He doesn't have a first place machine. He has a 4th place machine. He should finish no lower than that EVER. When he des that with consistency, he'll get what he's due. If not, others will get the offer.

I think unfortunately that neither of these will ever be MotoGP world champion. I don't have a problem with either but Lorenzo/Marquez will tie it up for a few years.
 
I like Cal a lot but it was disheartening watching the hondas leave him on the straight.  He pushes awfully hard and that leads to errors but much respect for doing that in the first place...would be interesting seeing him kitted out on a factory bike just to see what that little extra could give him
